I just don't see how anyone could play a class/build were they know exactly what they will be doing every round for the rest of their careers. And when I compare a lv1 fighter to a lv20 fighter, the only difference I see is that one hits harder than the other. Is that really anything worth looking forward to?
In nearly every video game ever, the caster is the highest offense/lowest defense option there is. The concept of a glass cannon inspires thoughts of frail old men dropping meteors down on the battlefield. My question: Is this a viable option in pathfinder? Can caster dpr compare to those of other classes? I understand the value of utility and control over damage and I am not here to debate that. What I want to know is: Can a damage caster perform the duties it is taking on well enough to replace other ranged dpr builds? What is the best way to go, damage wise?
This thread was inspired by the spell "contagious flame". Reading that spell exploded me with happy.
I can come up with great character concepts for melee-types but am turned off every time but the idea of swinging a weapon day-in and day-out. Casters give me the chance to change up my offense every day and keep combat fresh and exciting. I really do want to play something else, though. Is there some way to overcome this idea of being bored with melee combat? Am I doomed to being repulsed by the idea of playing fighters and the like? Anyone with heavy experience playing pure melee characters please respond.

Cool summoning options- -use multiple low level summon spells together to cast a higher level summon. (exp. cast two Summon Monster 2 spells as a full round action to get a Summon Monster 3.) -have more than one summon spell active at a time. -use evolution points on the Summon Monster Spells. -have longer durations. -maybe be able to summon monster abilities to use yourself,
Im' kinda new to the forum so I can only assume that this issue has been beaten to death already... but why is the SUMMONER class based on some super animal companion and not, oh i don't know, maybe SUMMONING. That was just a vent and i feel better now. But i do think that the summoner should have some crazy summoning options that other classes don't have instead of the other way around (conjuration wizard). Just get rid of the eidolon already.
I have come across some issues in a play test i have been running. The cavalier his really hard to gauge power-wise because his main offensive ability (his horse) can literally be killed out from under him. What exactly is a player to do when 90% of the time he doesnt have a mount with benefits because it died in the first session and they arent going to level for another 9 sessions.
