Yes Sean, I think you're right!

And with the magic Items..
Many Thanks for that.

We're only using the core rules without DMG2, CAd, or CD...but I think this could be a nice describtion for an Item, I could make out of the core rules with the "heroism" or "greater heroism"-spell..

I will take a quantity of diplomacy and some luck to speak with my DM...Perhaps this will things make easier in the future.

When I have results...i'll write it down here...

Yes may be possible...
But i didn't know the story from the DM side...
I'am only a PC..

And I only could imagine that he wants to increase the Difficulty,
because were high in gear of magic items..
(I am a wizard with create wondrous items feat, and our cleric in the party also have this feat..)
Abilities: 11/18/17/26/14/13

So for the fight it is not necessary that there are no spawn's in the story part.

We fought against the dragon, the frog and 4 spawns!

Why are you confused?

I said that it is the AoW campaign in the Whispering Cairns the second time (Fight against Il-tane).

The DM only adds the Frogemoth from the adventure before to the fight with Il-tane to incresae the difficulty.

Or do you have any other further questions?

Thank you for the answers so far...

But, let me explain the situation a little bit deeper.
I mean the fear effect of the spawns.

1. On this evening we have NO Cleric available !! (--> No Cleric-spells !)

2. The Bard was with his initiative after me in line... (so no bonus for me)

3. As we have no cleric / paladin in the party, we could not cast "bless"

4. Some of our PC's already have Periapts of wisdom...so not stack with Owl's wisdom.

5. The Druid memorized no owls wisdom, mass and the other pc’s have at 10th level no access.

6. The wizard (me) have 2 potions of remove fear but he failed his save and teleports away.

7. We didn't want to start the "musicbox" because there was a little bit of "Making no noise" !!

8. Yes with the +2 morale bonus from the bardic music I have 20 at it would be enough..but the ini from the bard was slower.

9. Resistance...(see 4.) all PC's have a minimum of cloak of resistance +1

10. The Bard is not in knowledge of the "good hope" spell, so he could not cast it.

11. Finally we didn’t want to have only lawful good PC’s in our Party. (all 3 level Paladin)

Ok thank you for your help, but on this situation, we also didn’t know that we have to fight against Kyuss spawns.

Perhaps it is possible to make an item with the greater Heroism (Wiz 6, Brd 5) spell…
But this would be available at 11th level…later then..

Is this now a better description of our sitation?

And the Barbarians both succeded in their will-saves !!

PC Name: Soveliss, Elven Wizard 10
Adventure: A Gathering of the winds
Location of Death: Whispering Cairn
Catalyst: -Failed Will-save of the wizard
-Fight against Il-Tane AND Froghemoth

Party: - Elven Wizard 10
- Elven Ranger 10
- Half-Orc Barbarian 10
- Half-Orc Barbarian 10 (never always!! otherwise we
have a cleric of pelor 10)
- Human Bard 11
- Human Druid 11

So far...

We have to fight against Il-Tane AND the Froghemoth...yes we knew that in advance...

But the fight was so terrible that from our 6 PC's died 3..
1/2 TPK !

We have made a plan, from that we thought it could work.
(Use of "Wand of Force" to split both enemies)
But not in statistics hand.

In the first round there were four worm-infected and no Il-Tane and no Froghemoth...Ok we thought...Our two barbarians run to the zombies and yes (OH Yes!!) both make their 4 saves against will DC 14, 19 !! Ok no problem.

Then me, the wizard of the party failed his save with a "4" (+14) against DC 19...OH NO !!
I have to use my memorized spell "Teleport" back to the Academy in Greyhawk...and have to view the very exciting pictures and rooms of the academy, while the other 5 PC's blooded out...or were swallowed.. (--> 7rnds Fear)

Ok now the rest of the party was alone...against 3 zombies and Il-Tane AND the big frog.

Next our elven Ranger was the target of the frog...Two rounds later ok...good meal, the frog would have said...
Oh oh..
and the next round our bard took 69 hit points out of his 74...next action "dimension door" with our druid..ok they were save..

But the fate of our two barbarians was the same as for the ranger...R.I.P....

But one of our two barbarians have made the journey through the portal and YES died against Il-Tane, who comes to the portal, 2 rnds later...

--> Problem with will-saves against the fear-aura

Hello,

i play in a party with five 10th-level characters.
We already have finished several parts of the AoW-campaign, and now we have reached the Whispering Cairn/ Diamond Lake the second time to defeat Il-tane.

The fight ended in a disaster --> 50% of the party is dead ...

In the first round the wizard of the party (me) failed his will-saving throw (with +14) against 19...and have to use "teleport" home to greyhawk *oops* (7rnds later....yeah the academy is very beautiful!!)

The party was from that moment on without the wizard and the end was near...

Ok now to our problem:
The zombies are 3rd level and at statistics hand at every encounter one or two characters failed their willsave against the fearaura.

We only use the core-rules without prestige classes..

Is there a Item, that prevents the saving throw?
Or a spell, I only found them on 5th or higher level...But for zombies of 3rd level...No really not.
There have to be another thing to help me with this fear aura!!

Do you have any experiences with this problem?
