Not exactly the dice roll you like to see after spending awhile drafting a post for that long, but, such is the name of the game.
Soundbyte decided to take a, perhaps, more direct approach when it came to these mechanical malcontents and misconstrued misanthropes. While Bravo was skirting around the edges of the group, he slowly and carefully made his approach from the front. He tapped his staff once, calling fourth a distant rising chant of indiscernible nature . Once it seemed they were off-balanced by the noise he carefully selected from the numerous sermons he'd dutifully recorded over the years. "And 'lo, did the lone pastor approach the rambunctious youths with neither heed nor wary of bow and blade. 'Turn back', He commanded the group armed with naught but a shepard's hook. 'The path you tread is that of Darkness and Despair.' His words were met with the unbridled laughter and scorn, a man of dark hair grinning with unabashed disbelief. 'You are 'naught but a sheep herder, to what right do you have to deny us?'" His steps were slower, deliberate. A part of him felt like it was faltering, feeling exposed by being so obviously out in the open. Much like the man from the story. Yet. " The man stood firm, planting his hook firm in the ground. Shadowed by the fading light, his eyes were grit with determination. 'It is my right as a shepherd to protect my flock.'" He tapped his staff one last time, and all at once his body exploded into starlight. "It is by the grace of Her Light that I shall do so."
I'd been debating having Soundbyte launch into an imptomptu sermon, perhaps try to convert some of these heathens towards Sarenrae's light.
Soundbite taps his staff to the ground, nodding towards his angelic summon before it dematerializes. "No time like the present/ let's give 'em the 'ol 1-2!"
With one of the machines down, both summoner and summoner move to try and deal with their last foe. For some reason, Soundbyte is displaying a rare show of combat potential compared to the theoretically far more skilled angelic warrior.
"If you want something done, do it yourself!" The SRO intones, loosing some patience with himself by rushing forward into the thick of things.
His angelic comrade, one or two more good hits away from dissipation, decides to make the most of his limited time on this plane with one more slice of his sword.
The angel however takes the robots to task, charging them down to try impaling one of the machines.
The angel takes a momment to adjust to it's new surroundings, before it notices the incoming deluge of mechanical adversaries. It hefts a blade of light, shouting something in a musical tone, before rushing up into the air then straight downward to impale it's foe.
Not wishing to chance being infected by Unity's sway over the machines, Soundbyte for now simply reaches out with a basic telekinetic attack.
Something inside of Soundbyte seems to click into place, that little spark of divine light within him refracting in nust the right manner. In the right side of his optical HUD he's notified of several new additions to his contacts list. With the few picoseconds he allots himself to browse the list he makes his decision. "Calling: 81:21:54:21:65:90 . . . Connection established. Bridging sequence commencing." The SRO holds out his hand, and not caring one iota about doing this right outside of profane ground, a summoning gate forms in front of him to reveal a small angelic being.
Level Four:
Soundbyte had many things he wishes to say, but he choose to turn off his speakers to avoid compromising their mission.
Aye-aye, captain
Soundbyte tilts his head slightly in affirmation with Bravo and Roskar, "More trouble then it's worth/ the chaos bringer./ It's like a million /bureaucratic/ voices cried out at once, and were suddenly silenced... /Together, we could RU-/Keep it secret, keep it safe."
I'm not sure I'm quite adept enough to try negotiating on an contract myself, but I'll keep thinking on it. Aside; Have these devils been using their telepathy at all? If they're having any secret conversations, Sounbyte picked up an augmentation to try and pick up on such communication.
Soundbyte tilted his head upwards a fraction, peering into the False Icon's own optics. What could a man crafted into his own image actually know of the tides of his soul? No man of the cloth could ever claim to have never possessed even a small measure of doubt. It was the way you took that doubt and reforged your faith even stronger that truly marked your strength in the eyes of a God. Yet. It was right, his processor had been clouded. What he had spoken was not his true greatest achievement, and this skirmish had been lost. The Devil was clear in he would take no further arguments on that front. With the new challenge proposed, the SRO tilted himself backwards to consider the matter a little more. They had waited this long, there was no need to rush through these proceedings.
Soundbyte sat himself down, his golden plate at clash with the infernal decor of the conference area. He examined the reforged petioner with a critical eye, taking in every scant aspect of the mirrored mechanical form. True, as a SRO there have been times when he's "met himself" while out in the galaxy. Such a thing is inevitable when you have a serial number stamped on the inside of your central powercore. Yet for each 'him' he had met, there was always one thing that stood apart from them in his eyes. His greatest personal accomplishment has always been one thing, and one thing only. "From the very moment I opened my eyes/I saw the Face of God." From the moment he'd first laid sensors about Sarenrae's celestial might in the form of the Sun, the sensation of becoming Aware has yet to fade. How few machines could claim such a gift?
"This is most disturbing." He plays, before considering the strange doppelgangers'. They had to be fiends of some nature, or perhaps they were contracted mortal aliens? He thought deeper on the matter before deciding to sit down.
"All's well that ends well." Soundbyte responds.
Soundbyte tapped his staff on the ground, letting the magic of his form run out. Though he didn't say anything, he felt a personal shame for his own lack of assistance in that fight. Thankfully their opponent wasn't acting as seriously as a normal fiend would.
Though the pit fiend was so obviously large and in charge, Soundbyte simply lacked the martial skill to be of use in these situations.
Moving forward, the starlit form of Soundbyte twirls it's beaming staff, making to attack the devil directly. He may not be well versed in combat like his fleshy compatriots, but it'd be remiss of him to use his spells so soon.
Soundbyte takes a couple steps backward, slowly mustering up his divine energies while evaluating their fiendish foe. He again chooses to shed his corporeal mechanical form, sensing the danger such evil could posses.
Once he'd ascertained their foe, he vocalized what strange abilities and defenses it might posses.
Soundbyte tapped his staff lightyl. "Please lodge your complaint with/ Operators are standing by." He helpfully chimes in.
Angel was our current Computer expert, but I haven't heard from them in a long while now.
He taps his staff twice, nodding to himself at his general assessment. Turning around, his eyes trail over those he feels have a better understanding of technological work. "It takes two to tango."
Soundbyte approached with trepidation, cocking his head to the side as he made a careful arc around it. "I believe it runs on some form of /The souls of the innocent."
The SRO is only a step just behind the Kasatha, his staff tapping away at the stone with each step.
"Great evil awaits us." Soundbyte clips in contemplation.
Soundbyte steps up and begins to recite the exact specific subclauses of the contraxt pertaining to this particular set of trials. He chooses to use Angel's voice rather then the succubi Vid-Tuber. At the very lesst it didnt burn his circuits.
Soundbyte rests a hand on the Vesk's broad shoulder. "/Rest my child, for there is no shame in failure."
"Blasphemous." Soundbyte merely responds. Though truly he knew it was better to know your enemy, he merely never found the time to learn. Language software was expensive as well, for what it offered. He did relay in his usual manner however, what findings he gathered regarding the alter and the weapons there upon.
Soundbyte grips his staff, considering. "/Nothing ventured nothing gained." A mental trigger, and he lit the specific arcana=receptors within his optical circuits as he surveyed the blasphemous structure.
"By the grace of the goddess, I come to tend to the injured and heal the sick." Soundbyte declares, taking a moment to examine the worst injured of their group. If anything looked deeper then surface gashes he'd be ready to pull from his internal stores of divine energies. If they weren't, perhaps it'd be better to reach the rest-point and recover their breaths more naturally.
Soundbyte shakes off the strange effect the creatures had on his sense of balance, taking up his staff and again trying to lash forward and get even one solid hit in.
"We need to- / We need to- / We need to-" Soundbyte's voice module stutters, every noise coming with a strange electronic screech accompanying it. His movements and reactions are slow, but he still holds up just enough of himself to put up a half-way decent defense against attack.
Sorry for my delays recently, school started up for the kids so, craziness. Things are calming down now though.
Soundbyte perks up slightly as the beast tries to get past his tough armor, and focuses on trying to continue drawing it's focus. He readies himself for more successive blows.
"Crikey! Lookit' the size of that beaut'!" Soundbyte exclaims, mustering forward to join his companions in close-quarters battle. Perhaps if it annoyed the creature enough it'd draw the ire from his more fleshy compatriots.
Soundbyte's hand glides over his staff, held at the ready. His memory burns brightly as he scans and cross-checks the creature, hopefully before it has time to inflict real harm.
What knowledge check might this be? Myth, or life science?
"Well, what are we waiting for? /Let's roll out#" The SRO intoned, tabbing his staff to the ground.
This deal just keeps getting worse all the time." Soundbyte quoted from some long forgotten televid. Always with the strange monstrous plants and monsterous aberrations, this group.
