I've been working on converting the devil may cry series to table top for some time now. I know how difficult it can be. I will say that you were on the right track with making Dante a ranger. Recent updates in the pathfinder books have helped me to further flesh him out as well. For a base class with Dante you will need the core rulebook and the advanced players guide. Try the ranger core class with the alternate changes in Skirmisher AND Urban ranger on pages 128 and 129 of the APG. Let me know if it works out for you.
