I'm normally a lurker everywhere I go, but I figure if there's anything I should post on to break that it should be here. So I've been playing paper and pen rpgs for maybe three years, though with very little consistency sadly. I previously lived in a town with very little to offer in that regard. As such I've only recently been delving into the actual communities that post and contribute to Pathfinder. If we're talking specific interests of rpg content creation, I'm a big fan of world building in general. The nitty gritty specifics of item, and monster creation are new territories to me. But they're probably avenues that help address my weaknesses best. I'm super thankful to this contest, as it's really the first competitive venue I've jumped into. The feedback I've run into has ranged from incredibly kind to no holds barred constructive, and I hope to stick around to take greater advantage of that. I've already started applying what I've learned to personal adventure paths, as well as looking for other third party contests, and I hope to be an even stronger competitor next season.
I am sad I never saw this item. I would have definitely up voted. I saw several underwater items and consider their existence very important. The more fun you make underwater combat and exploration, the less niche you can make it in my opinion. But those motives, aside the item is very nicely done. I'm glad you added passive boosts to the armor in addition to the once per day ability. Helps keep the flavor!
Hey guys I just wanted to let you all know I have been looking at your feedback and loving it! It seems there are a few points that while being the selling feature to some is a problem to others. That's pretty interesting to me and I look forward to addressing everyones points to give the item some much needed polish. Sadly I have very limited access to internet currently, but hopefully that should be fixed in a couple days. In the meantime know that, love it or hate it, I very much appreciate the critiques!
I am legitimately moved by all these wonderful comments! Everyone is pretty close when guessing my motives/themes for it, so I'm happy I was able to convey them(not my strongest point). Oceanshieldwolf you have no idea how haunted I was by that typo throughout this entire ordeal haha. I was honestly convinced that was gonna do me in. Kalindlara I'm normally not a fan of eastern themes in pathfinder. But I do enjoy subtle touches from time to time. But when I saw the Lotus Geisha archetype that pretty much well sealed the name. The map round has definitely upped the standards. I'll try not to dissapoint!
I'm still unclear on whether or not this map needs to serve as the basis for a single encounter or not. Or if the main focus is that it just be someplace in Golarion that can serve as a location that could hold one or more encounters. Because in previous entries I see several good examples of maps with multiple levels. But I doubt that would work for a single encounter. I'm not really grasping a solid answer one way or the other.
I understand everyone's concerns about how cheap this item is. But when I was first introduced to pathfinder my dm didn't point out it was illegal to summon say... horses over my enemies heads for several sessions. So seeing this item brought a fond tear to my eye. I will be carrying so many of these for smart lipped highwaymen. ;)
CorvusMask wrote: I think (and this is just my opinion) as long as it's appropriate for Golarion, you're OK. So specifics are not a major requirement? Provided the terrain at least relatively fits the general portion of Golarion we're aiming at? My knowledge of Golarion is sadly very limited. I can gleam bits and pieces from the wiki, but my favorite locations have rather unhelpful entries.
