Anyone got an updated link? Could really use the updated statblocks.

3 people marked this as a favorite.

I'm actually starting this book tomorrow, and very much plan on using almost all of what you've done here. Really appreciate it.

SIGN UP HERE - post will be updated with current attendees. Subtier determined by level of players. Currently 3-4.

Your mission takes you to the Taldan capital city of Oppara where the intricate web of political intrigue and ages-old religious conflicts threaten the Pathfinder Society’s presence in the land. When Baron Jacquo Dalsine’s cousin is implicated in a recent attack on Society allies, the situation becomes even tighter for the Pathfinders, and at the end of the day some members of the Dalsine family may not get out unscathed.

Written by Alex Greenshields.

This scenario is designed for play in Pathfinder Society Organized Play, but can easily be adapted for use with any world. This scenario is compliant with the Open Game License (OGL) and is suitable for use with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

According to fabricate you'd need to have base materials to make the item. You'd have to have a load of adamantine in order to fabricate the full plate. So you aren't just paying a craft cost of 1/3 there.

However, I do think there are a few instances it's probably going to be used for cash flow. I'm going to specifically ban cash flow crafting unless a profession check is used. That's why we have craft/profession. Making money buying material, crafting, and selling crap is not why I DM for people. Go play EVE or something is what I'd tell them.

Grand Lodge

Thank you, that is helpful. Any other advice or design quotes from the developers on this balance issue would be appreciated. At this point, I'm likely to just go with what feels right to me and if the players can't accept it we won't play. PF is a different game than 3.5 and I'm not going to break PF for the sake of nostalgia. There is plenty of opportunity to break PF as it is.

Grand Lodge

All,

I am an experienced DM but I could really use some advice on how to deal with an issue. A group has asked me to consider DM'ing a homebrew PF campaign, but they like high magic, high powered campaigns (very high stats, items, etc.) They are veterans of 3.5 and want to relive those days as well. That includes ways to break the crafting system.

I've been told they want to do things like stacking +AC items of insight, luck, sacred, deflection, natural, etc to get up to ridiculous AC. I would have no problem with these things if it wasn't for the fact that Paizo got rid of body slot shenanigans by aligning all of the (even more slots than we used to have) into single slots and charging markups for stacking effects.

Has anyone here dealt with someone trying to revive broken portions of 3.5 crafting? What PF rules/resources are available for me to challenge this practice beyond simple DM fiat?

Thus far, I'm considering making items double cost if they are different slot than typically aligned. I'm looking for any advice to add sanity to this in a campaign that will already a bit overpowered making encounter building difficult to balance.

Darius,

I'm struggling with what to say here. I, of course, feel terrible that we couldn't accommodate you coming in late. I would like you to keep a couple things in mind that you may not know.

1) A module takes two or three 4-5 hour sessions to complete. I am doing it in two 2.5 hour sessions. There is very little time to wiggle as it is. If someone doesn't show, I have to get started without them. If there is a wait lister, I have to let them in and get started. It's not fair to the rest to delay.

2) Very few DMs post the game well over an hour in advance so people can set up macros and ask questions. I do this as a courtesy for players who need help with either the venue or the game mechanics. Posting it even earlier is not my responsibility to do, as the link is not available until I create the hangout session. I cannot do that while I'm at work or eating an early dinner.

3) Like any other table top, Roll20 GMs will work with you if late if they know something about it. I checked my e-mail, PMs, this thread, and Facebook for the other area I post games in multiple times as the game was getting going. I was worried about what to do with your spot the longer we went with no word. With no information from you on your log-in problems until you came in 20 minutes late, I had no other recourse than to believe you weren't showing up and I had to get started. This "no call, no show" is not easy on me either as a DM. I don't like giving spots away. Please consider this, GMs want you at the table, just let us know and your spot is secured as long as feasible.

I hope you continue to participate in these online tabletop games, and I'm very sorry you had so many issues getting in.

Grand Lodge 3/5

Game is now closed, Nathaniel will take Boots' spot as we're 10 min after start.

Grand Lodge 3/5

Leganduil, I already have 5 so I probably won't have a seat for you. Will let you know if that changes.

Grand Lodge 3/5

Everyone can get to the game through google hangouts as long as they've already clicked the link above joining my Roll20 campaign. The game is currently up. Please make macros for initiative and attack / damage. Saves and knowledge are a bonus.

Macro is best done something like this:

attacks [[1d20+4]] for [[1d8+3]] damage

or

thinks about the arcane [[1d20+8]]

you can type to me until the game starts, when I will turn on my mic. Cheers!

An adventure for [2nd-4th]-level characters

For decades, the tiny village of Ravenmoor has existed quietly on the upper reaches of the Lampblack River, far from the centers of civilization in Varisia. Linked to the outside world only by an overgrown, mostly forgotten trail, the villagers are comfortable with their isolation. Their ways are humble, quaint, and at times odd, and when travelers come, they find the town awkward and unmemorable. Certainly, the lack of a village inn, the oppressive humidity, and the bug-infested moors and swamps that surround the village do little to encourage visitors. When a clerk in the city of Magnimar discovers that, due to a clerical error, the village of Ravenmoor hasn’t paid taxes in years, a tax collector is sent to the distant community to settle accounts with its mayor. When the tax collector fails to return, however, a group of adventurers must travel to the town during its Founders’ Feast celebration to investigate his disappearance. Did he really make off with the taxes for himself, as the villagers suspect? Or did he never make it out of Ravenmoor at all?

It features a terrifying adventure set in a rural village in the frontier realm of Varisia, and a brand-new monster eager to torment and frighten unsuspecting adventurers.

Almost all Pathfinders undergo extensive training for three or more years to learn the tricks of the trade, and their last test before graduating from the ranks of the initiates to the status of a full Pathfinder agent is the Confirmation, a special research project that involves considerable fieldwork and is designed to simulate the initiates' future work as a Pathfinder. Even the noteworthy field commissioned agents sometimes participate in such trials as a way to familiarize themselves with the Pathfinder Society’s rules and expectations. Although Confirmation is typically an individual affair, the society recently discovered a site on the Isle of Kortos that would be perfect for initiates but perhaps too dangerous to handle alone. Successfully uncovering this site’s secrets will not only contribute to the society’s body of knowledge but shape the exciting careers ahead for each of the prospective agents.

My general rule of thumb: If I have not heard from you by 5 minutes after 8PM EST, I will start the game without you. If there is a waitlisted person, they will be added in your stead. If no one is in waitlist, I just start without you and you can join at any time until we've had 3 encounters and you've essentially missed the scenario and cannot get credit.

This should be a pretty cool scenario and I'm looking forward to it. To those PFS/R20 newbies, just make sure to join the campaign, THEN join the hangout 5-10 minutes before we start and check your mic/video and set up macros. If you think you will need more time for macros, (ie pre-setting your rolling of dice in the GUI, etc within Roll20) I will have the G+ hangout/campaign up until start time with my mic/video muted. Feel free to do what you need.

Cult of Personality
An adventure for [2nd to 4th] Pathfinder Roleplaying Game characters.

Razmir the Living God used his power to conquer an entire country; now he and his mask-wearing priests enforce peace and generosity—though some say their tools are intimidation and fear. His worshipers preach charity and self-worth, blaming rival faiths for crafting lies about the glories of the Living God. Now the cult has come to the city of Tamran, feeding the poor and promising happiness to those who serve Razmir. Yet ugly rumors persist of bribery, extortion, and strange disappearances associated with the new temple. Are these stories just gossip and lies spread by rival faiths? Or is the church of the Living God more than it seems?

I have 4 spots for this event. You must be available both nights 8-1130EST to finish up and receive a chronicle.

Unfortunately Pathfinder's creators loathe dragons and the previous prevalence in settings like Forgotten Realms. The dragon hunter's handbook is lackluster when it comes to crafting with dragon carcass.

As above, I highly recommend house-ruling something very much or directly out of the Draconomicon (3.5) as it was easily one of the best sources ever done on the topic. The rules can go beyond that. I just let size be my guide (something Draconomicon did to a large degree when crafting armor) on weapons, clothing, armor, magical reagents, etc.

For instance, a Huge dragon might have teeth the size of a dagger or even shortsword. It might have claws curved and suitable to turn into khopeshes, scimitars or kukris. Its skin and softer scaled portions like wing folds could make clothing for a tiny character, or a belt or other magic item slot item for a medium character. The hardened scales of a huge dragon might fully armor a medium character, or like Draconomicon suggests, scales by heavy, medium or light armor per size of creature wearing it.

I also used the Artisan-crafting rules from Dragon magazine #345. Back orders or PDFs can help you there, which greatly expanded the idea of crafting in general, and give you more ideas how how to deal with exceptional materials for crafting beyond 'reduce armor check penalty by 1'

If in a homebrew campaign, I suggest that every kill of an evil monstrous being or non-sentient beast become an opportunity to craft something exceptional. Even in a non-archaeology setting, it's possible to embellish. I allowed Firepelt Cougar fur to be used in a cloak and gave it bonuses to diplomacy or intimidate depending on who saw it, or negatives for people who viewed it negatively. The greatness of being a DM, especially in homebrew, is to make an adventure. Telling someone they just killed a dragon, and now if they only take a feat they can create some dinky +1 to something item, or all they get is dragon bile, etc is just plain not fun to me.

What I DO try to do is create a gold tax by requiring the party to either take feats or require them to find someone suitable to make the items. If somehow that doesn't work, I will factor the size and cost of dragon-crafting into how much is left in a hoard.

Also, I'd do ranged. Perhaps divine hunter paladin, an inquisitor, or some other divine class with a ranged element - or simply a cleric/oracle/etc with range dips into fighter/paladin/etc. The paladin builds I mentioned could do that. With a monk/barb/melee bard, you will have a bit of a time doing anything but watching the fight and trying to get into melee otherwise.

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

DrDeth gave good advice. I would go with something that you want to play, but find a way to do that and have divine/arcane utility. You have a bard, but that isn't exactly a wizard.

If you want a melee or ranged type that heals, a Hospitaler paladin can work great. Want some more spellcasting ability, go Oracle/Paladin, the mix varies based on what you want, but consider Pal2/OracleX or Oracle4/PalX or Oracle1/PalX.

I second DrDeth's recommendations on using domain/mystery/etc for utility. Another option would be a witch. As you mentioned, but I wouldn't go so far as to take hedge witch if you don't want to. Often, locking down enemies will really lessen the damage you all take. A Scarred-witch doctor or winter witch could work well if you want something beyond vanilla. Time patron has some nice wizardesque spells - teleport/haste.

A druid is ok, but in this party I'd say no. You're really losing power as your spell slots are at such a high premium. A witch, oracle, paladin, or cleric has other things they can focus on, but you as a druid might spend a spell every fight just buffing or controlling the battlefield, etc. Go with a class that can heal that you won't LOSE effectiveness at your other primary jobs.
