About Shirrodan
Before the bombs fell, Sirrodan was a tailor’s apprentice in Caliphas, Ustalav. His upbringing was not quite so cosmopolitan though, as his family mostly worked as laborers on a modest vineyard along the River Path.
In addition to his parents, Gellick and Heramoa, Sirrodan had one elder brother, and two younger sisters, though Sirrodan was the only to ever show any signs of having planetouched ancestry.
He picked up the basics of working with clothing as he spent much time repairing the clothing of the other laborers at the vineyard, which eventually led to his family supporting him in pursuing an apprenticeship with a tailor, Hemmish, in Caliphas.
In the long run, he did not intend on becoming a guilded tailor. Sirrodan had always felt that his flame touched ancestry was a call for him to follow the Dawnstar. He someday intended to take the vows and become a novitiate in the temple of Sarenrae.
And then the bombs fell.
Sirrodan was in the alley behind the tailor shop, enjoying a rare pleasure smoking a little flayleaf, when a roar shook the ground and bright light spilled around the buildings. Even in the alley, Shirrodan suffered light burns. He didn’t have to dig for long to find Hemmish. The kind tailor had been crushed and bent by the rubble, and burned by the intense light of the blast.
Numbness and shock. He couldn’t help thinking about the great blast of light, and the nature of Sarenrae as a lightgiver. Had she caused this? Not likely, but surely someone as powerful as her could have stopped an event like this; an event of a catastrophic outpouring of light. Why hadn’t she at least warned her faithful that this was coming. If any of the deities could have foreseen an apocalypse of this exact nature, surely it was Sarenrae. Shock melted into anger, which quickly burnt itself out and plummeted into despair and anguish. Much time passed in this state of mind as Sirrodan scavenged and survived in the ruins of Caliphas. Despite the briefness of the light and the blast, for a long time a mild, unseen burning remained.
Sirrodan seems to remember that his thoughts turned from investigating the temple of Sarenrae to returning quickly home to the vineyard to check on his family. He probably managed to book a spot in a refugee caravan leaving Caliphas to the South West? And he seems to remember something about anger and accusations thrown at him about him being the source of the inexplicable wasting sickness passing through the caravan? Something to do with his fiery appearance and steadily shrinking size?
What he remembers clearly though is waking up near a river wearing a child’s clothes (when had he gotten those?), and a talking hedgehog calling him back to the light. Funny how the hedgehog’s little spikes made him look like a little sun. The refugees had mentioned they were heading for a new settlement called Prevail. With a little deduction from their path, and a lot of wandering and luck, Sirrodan set off on his way to Prevail.
He intends to do a little farming there, mend clothing, make clothing, and make new friends. For now though, he walks. Walks, and listens to the hedgehog, whom he has named Sunny, talk about the beauty of a strange, foreign sun, of making things grow and change, of warm rays caressing sun touched skin. Odd as the stories are, they make Sirrodan feel a little lighter on his feet.
