Male Human Shaman 1
"Gobo-san," Shinko begins, "please be so kind as to get your villagers to a safe place. We," he gestures to his companions, "will try to deal with these bandits. Perhaps if they see something more than just frightened peasants, they will reconsider this karma-damaging course of action. Would you also ask your eminent visitor to send his retainers to stand with us?"
Shinko turns away, as if certain that his requests will be dealt with in a timely fashion. He says a brief prayer to the spirit of this village, and loosens up a bit.
When the bandits come into sight, I'll cast speak with animals so I can direct my dog during combat

Shinko raises and eyebrow and glances at his companions. He then turns and bows to Kichirou, "If you would excuse us," he says, "It would be best if we did not keep these esteemed travellers waiting, although, much like Gobo-san, I do not know what they might want with us."
He bows again, surrepticiously slipping a tael under his tea cup. He stands and bows to Gobo.
"I am ready."

obviously need to devote some points to this skill
Shinko, unused as he is to the social interactions of samurai, notices nothing out of the ordinary. He does, however understand his place in the world, and puts a hand on his friend's shoulder.
"Perhaps it would be better," he comments,"if we find out what we can from the common folk. I would not wish to force myself on the headman while he is entertaining one of high station. If the samurai is of the less-than-understanding variety... well... I prefer my head attached to my neck."
He smiles, as if he's just heard a marvelous joke, and nods to an unseen person off to the side of their little group.

Shinko walks back to the village, appearing to be much engrossed in a conversation no-one else can hear. In truth, he listens intently to the conversation near at hand, while keeping his eye on the group with the headman.
"An odd place to find such a procession," he thinks to himself, trying to make sense of their presence here.
can I have a sense motive check to see if Shinko notices the actual pecking order in the group? I think that's sense motive opposed by bluff, but I don't have the book in front of me.

Shinko eyes the gathering clouds and then pauses, listening.
"The spirits do not choose to tell me when the rain will begin today, so I think perhaps you are right."
He stands, calls to Tenko, and then claps his hands, the sound loud and yet dull in the heavy, pre-storm air.
"Children!," he calls, "time to go inside. The kami need it to rain soon, and they don't want you to get wet!"
He laughs, and starts, with his friend, to herd the children toward their homes.

From what literary references I've ever seen on monk/sorcerer, ninja/sorcerer, it's always looked to me like the martial artist came first and the magic came later, so from a flavor standpoint, I'd recommend that strat.
From a purely mechanical standpoint, it works as well. 1st level sorcerers run out of juice pretty quickly, but 1st level monks (or ninja, I guess) can usually hold their own in a fight for quite a while.
As far as the party's needs are concerned, I think either strat will work. We're strong in warriors, and we have magic covered pretty well. If you're going to multiclass anyway, you're going to end up backup for both of those groups.
Just my 2 yen.

This is my shaman.
I had the profile finished, and when I hit preview, it @$%^ing disappeared.
I still have magic and possessions to do up, but there's not much of either, so it won't take too long.
