To Verik
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Shadowleaf feels the slimy tentacle wrap around him, yuck. He started to just continue to attack with his last breath, but then as Fortune finishes his 2nd spell, he began to feel his armor slip a little. Perhaps he could free himself; escape artist check at +10 for grease
If he gets free he will step behind the celestial dog (to d11) and drop his polearm/draw the mw mithral dagger. I don't know, that's 2 4's in a row for the pazio dice roller...
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
For Verik: Shadowleaf shrugs "We will make sure it gets put to good use. If I find a Vancaskerkin, it is theirs." Shadowleaf moves to flank (tumbling if needed) and pulls out his mw Kukri. He slashes at the monster, "Interesting wildlife you have in this city." 1d20+7, 1d4+2, 1d6=[19, 7], [2, 2], [2]
Edit: Ninja'd by the DM...
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
To Verik; Shadowleaf shrugs, "you won't need it swinging from a rope". Fortune looks shocked, "We are not thieves. So what would you like us to do with the dagger? Family, church, the Guard?" We will turn in the rest of his equipment. 1d20+7, 1d20+4 → ([18, 7], [1, 4]) My typical bad initiative and since I can't do worse, let's reroll with a Harrow point...1d20+4 → [19,4] = (23)
Shadowleaf attacks with the polearm while giving the command word for attack to his dogs;
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Giving him the due of another alpha predator, Shadowleaf slowly steps into the room, keeping his stance casual. Shutting the door and leaving his dog guarding it, he moves away from Verik to a window. He will stand next to it and then glance outside around the edge, trying to be casually professional about the whole thing.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Precisely, thanks. It's faster that way. On the map, is up North? Shadowleaf will look around the larger room as he moves back to the door. There he holds a brief consult with Fortune. It is decided to do a search before we proceed upstairs. There might clues or information that could be useful in a confrontation. The general filth seems at odds with the fat, healthy pigs. How long would it take to do a search of all the downstairs? Just a normal/take 10, not a take 20.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
We will try to use as little light as possible. Is there a light source in this room? Shadowleaf motions for Fortune to watch from the door and then carefully proceeds into the room, moving to the left along the wall. At the first door he will listen and look for traps/alarms before carefully opening it. He will do this for all 3 doors unless he finds something that requires immediate attention on the other side of the door. perception +7
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Shadowleaf decides to go in the back way. Since the captured men didn't have keys, they probably left the back door open for their return. He quietly approaches the unlocked back gate and peeks inside, if there is no obvious threat in the yard, he will wave Fortune forward before he moves stealthily up to the back door and checks it for alarms (ie: traps) and locks. The dogs come with his son. perception +7
Forgot last time to add the +1 for rogue's trapfinding.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
As a warrior who had put his own life on the line for his people, Shadowleaf is disgusted by Karralo's cowardice. But cowards can be unpredictable, so he still keeps an eye on him. I assume he has put the manacles on, even though you didn't mention it. "Any passwords or other secrets. I think we will give the guard a glowing report of your cooperation and how you just aren't suited for field work, but only after we capture your boss. So if we don't return..." Making sure all 4 are manacled and completely disarmed/searched (with a quick 15), putting Parns and Malder together so they can carry Baldrago (that ought to slow them down). They will retrieve the net and put it over Baldrago. Then they will wake up Parns. Shadowleaf will let Fortune do the talking, he will be standing by 2 dogs with a drawn kukri, twirling it it the fading light.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Sl will move to a location to aim down the dock (he is good at hiding, stealth +7), within 30'. As Mr. Eyebrows (Baldrago) gets to the end (30'), Shadowleaf will sic the new dog on them and shoot Mr Eyebrows, "You really think you can shoot this good". 1d20+9=16 forgot +1 mw bow
You can roll for the dog and Sneak Attack. It's new enough that it doesn't have much training, just a mean attitude. Snarl. 1d20, 1d20+4=[5], [7, 4]
Note to self, remind BB to take off Harrow Points.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Shadowleaf will scout around and find a good ambush location. A good hiding place across the way with a good view of the Old Fishery. They will also visit the Citadel and ask how many guards have defected, picking up that many manacles. The next morning Shadowleaf will then return to the store and try to hire them with 50gp (making sure the gp look like they are from a real person) that he "found". According to his information, Gaedren lives hidden in the ship behind the Old Fishery. "Please bring Gaedren in alive so I can have a "chat" with him." The way he strokes his weapons on the word "chat" leaves little to the imagination as to what he really means.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Shadowleaf will stand patiently in line, though he is alway looking around. trying to id the meat, looking for hidden people, etc... When he finally gets in and is given some meat, he steps aside but doesn't leave. "I am looking for work and I was wondering if you needed some help the "nights special cuts". I'm good with animals and blades."
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Using the disguise kit to make himself look different (not to like anyone, just to look not entirely like himself), Shadowleaf (and the new dog) will go into the store as the last of the food is being given away. His hands will be in plain view and not on his weapons. Fortune will be out of sight nearby with the 2 older dogs and Vallis will be observing through the window (instructed to alert Fortune if SL is attacked or goes into the back).
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Shadowleaf will hunt around that night for rats with his new mw shuriken, using anything he catches as dog food (being discreet (in bags) with the dead rats). It also let's him scout out the area around their new home base. When asked by Fortune, he will tell his story; he found her trespassing in an elven forest after a winter storm, but looking into her eyes he just couldn't slay her. He nursed her back to health... On arrival Shadowleaf will hang back with the dogs. Let's not give them any reason to connect them just yet.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Shadowleaf will ask her aide, as he doesn't want to use anymore of her time, if Vancaskerkin left a bedroll or personal item with his scent on them, for the dogs. Just covering the possibilities if we need to track him down. At the market Shadowleaf will look for a 14 str, mw Short Composite Bow (75+300+75+75=525gp) and/or a mw Guisarme (309gp). How much is durable(trail rations and such) food going for?
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
As the discussion turns to tracking Vancaskerkin down, Shadowleaf's eyes light up with an inner fire. As the discussion draws to a close he smiles coldly, "So young one, to the hunt." He enjoys hunting and you are glad his "smile" isn't directed at you. "Field Marshall, do you know of a master armsman(weaponsmith) that is still open?" We will stay at the Inn (we need privacy). The plan is to take the rest of the day to divide up the loot, do some shopping (if possible) and basically just prepare. Will try to get it done by this afternoon, but may be tomorrow.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Shadowleaf will nod at Fortune, signaling well done. Then he will take the noble by the arm, not like it's a suggestion (heavily armed elf, 2 dogs), saying quietly "Come this way sir, and remember the wisdom of your elders." After they have left the earshot of the small mob, "Remember how it feels to be hunted and intimidated, these might save your life some day." Shadowleaf will escort him to the restaurant(or whatever) where the guards are out of sight. "Yes, an act of kindness to even the lowest born could save your life some day sir".
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Just wait a few years when 1 of those things she brings home are boys. Shadowleaf ties up the dogs and give them some tough leather to chew on, and then begins the long drawn out dearming process. Stops, takes a mental count of the pile of weapons in front of him, and finally, takes out his backup knife. Looks at the dogs and says "stay." When the guards give him that long look (for being a walking arsenal), he thinks, yeah, realize you are the prey and I am the hunter.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Shadowleaf will recover "Aid...? Leave us alone. Boy hunting in the city sucks." Then looks at Fortune, and with a nod indicates he wants to leave while the man is struggling with the spell. Fortune will just lean on his staff and comment, "You have a funny way of showing your devotion, trying to attack us. If you truly want to help, sit down and answer my question. What exactly did you see in your dream." Shadowleaf gets nervous about the scrutiny of the crowd. Prey should not see the hunter, it was wrong.

Only an insane person would approach a pair of growling dogs, so Shadowleaf is unprepared for the mans attack.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Shadowleaf argues the point of just chopping the brooch into pieces as being "nothing but trouble". But allows himself to be convinced that "having friends in high places" is a good thing. Fortune will remind him there is someone who knows we have, and "Do you want to be the one the queen finds out has destroyed it?" With a resigned sigh he agrees, "Like I said, nothing but trouble." Then thinks, the last thing I need is a bunch of noble women chasing me around pinching my bottom, "hurumph'. Shadowleaf will donate/sacrifice 225gp to the shrine of Desna to thank her for her guidance on his hunt.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
As she fades Shadowleaf asks, "Where do you wish to rest" patting the hatbox. After Fortune has gone inside SL does a brief scouting trip around the neighborhood looking for trouble coming their way, any food stuffs and kids clothes. His masters voice said "For missions requiring speed, always travel light." Dear Desna, I won't be able to travel light for years. And what to say my son...
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
To himself, with a sneer of disgust, "I thought only orcs and goblins desecrated the dead thusly." I have the right chosen enemy he thinks. Gathering up the loot and taking special care with the head Shadowleaf heads out, She seemed like a decent woman, she deserves a decent burial. He will stop and look for his weapons, if Fortunes search hadn't found them first. That was a decent hammer, it would be a shame to lose it. Getting to the body, he will load it into the boat and maneuver it out under the hole. Looking longingly at the secret door, Who put's a secret door in a boat, before climbing up. His curiosity is hard to ignore until he hears the children's voices from above. There are many young souls above that need him.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
After a consultation with Fortune... Shadowleaf says quietly, looking embarrassed, "I was a young elf and had never been outside of elven society, I never imagined humans could change so quickly. It was only a decade of service, and when I returned to find her, she and you were gone." Fortune will think quickly, then rise, bloody dagger still in hand. "Maybe you're my father, and maybe not. But now there are a bunch of kids above who need our help. We can talk about this later." He carefully uses prestidigitation to clean the dagger and himself, and as an after thought, clean and dry Shadowleaf. "I'm going to take the body to the boat. The kids need to see he is dead. At least I would want to know." He carefully begins to drag the body out of the room. Shadowleaf grunts, "Wisely said, but wait," and he will search the body (hoping to find a key, but taking anything of value), "my dog has food in it's pack." Then as Fortune is dragging the body out, with a slight plaintiveness to his voice he whispers "I did travel all this way from my homeland to find you". He proceeds to toss (search/perception +6) the room, the kids will need stuff and that takes gold. He will search for traps on the strongbox before trying to open it. The hat box looks interesting as well. Fotune will drag the body to the other side of the pool before resting, that spell trick can takes a lot of energy if you're not careful. He will drop a light spell on a rock to see if he can see (perception +4) Shadowleaf's hammer, throwing ax or polearm. If he sees them he will use mage hand to retrieve the hammer or ax (leaving them on the catwalk), and drop a light stone next to the polearm. Feeling a little more refreshed, he will finish dragging the body to the doorway, leaving it there for SL to put into the boat. Fortune will climb up the rope to see what is going on with the kids. We assume the rope is knotted, dc5, and It can climbed by taking 10. Does Fortune need to roll (with a -1 from fatigue)?
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
As he swims toward the edge (trying to get to the corner), Shadowleaf tries to think of some advice from his old Master that might cover this situation, between a sleeping croc, a circling shark and and an evil bastard.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Yes, Shadowleaf knows Fortune is casting a spell, so he will wait and see. When the croc grabs him he resists the urge to start struggling. The young wizard was casting a spell maybe it would help. When the old man appear at the door and shoots he thinks, this is going downhill fast. So when the croc goes limp, Shadowleaf tries to dive down and swim forward underwater (where the murky water would hide him from view). Not a good time for luck to abandon us.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Forgot to include the +1 damage from Point blank shot last round.
Shadowleaf will move down to the far catwalk and then continue toward the animal on the catwalk, pulling out his throwing ax as he does so. Taking careful aim, he let's it fly at the child-eating beast.
Do I need to declare using a Harrow point before I know the outcome, or can I do so after I know if I hit or not?
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
I thought I had posted, but evidently I took too long writing and the internet ate it. 1d20+4, 1d20+7, 1d4+2, 1d6=[20, 4], [12, 7], [1, 2], [2] Shadowleaf will step inside the door to give Fortune a chance to see into the room and throw his hammer at the animal. Does the net prevent our attacks?
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
"Maybe" is his laconic reply. He will lead the way, carefully, to the door into the building. "This is going too well" and resists the urge to knock on wood. He hears his masters voice say "Keep your focus young one, all else will take care of itself." Upon arriving at the door he will do his standard search/lock/listen routine. This prey is a canny and old, and they don't get that way by being sloppy. When he is satisfied, he will signal to Fortune he is ready to open the door.
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
Shadowleaf will look around under the floor, trying to judge if it would be easier to climb down to the area from the boat or from the upper dock. He doesn't really want to go swimming at this time of night, particularly in an area with a croc. Besides, he has noticed the water in this town doesn't look very good, it's just too convenient to dump stuff into. How viable are the following choices;
Male Elf 2 Ranger/2Rogue
A Quick scan of the room, with a small shudder of sympathy, to see what his handiwork has wrought. Oi, what a way to go. To be quickly repressed by the thought, they lived off the sweat of children, they deserved what they got, more to convince himself than anyone else. He will make the symbol of the starknife in the air to aid their souls on their journey, "May Desna have mercy." Shadowleaf gives a quick scan for anything useful, search 16. After blowing out the candle and making sure to not step in any blood pools, he will join Fortune in the previous room. Nodding to indicate the job is done, he puts the kukri away and draws forth the throwing ax and pole arm. He indicates for the holy young man to choose their path.
