When House Charthagnion signed the infernal pact to guarantee insight and wisdom to it's lineage, part of what it traded away was time. Specifically, time on Golarion. Born the sixth son of House Charthagnion, Sextus' family obligation was to host an agent of hell for six years. On his thirteenth birthday, Sextus became a passenger in his own body as his family of loyal diabolists performed a ritual that allowed for him to be possessed by a devil named Sar'od.
Sextus regained control of his body on his nineteenth birthday. Not surprisingly, there were lingering effects. Not just the mental trauma of being locked away or recalling fragments of what dark deeds Sar'od performed that can be drowned in drink, but changes to his very being. Sextus became a conduit of misfortune. Fate... destiny... luck... all of it was corrupted. It wasn't just to Sextus, but to those around him... a blight that brought misery and ruin.
