About Severn Morcant
Severn knew his entire life he would grow up to be a Hellknight. It was his right as a Morcant and he was among the finest Morcant specimens to ever grace the streets of Egorian. Spoilt and full of swagger, no one could keep Severn from having what he wanted.
As is typical for children of wealthy families in Egorian, Severn spent months out of the year at boarding school, where his capriciousness and cruelty were honed, and much of his summer away at a retreat, rarely spending time with his actual family. In his 17th summer, he was given charge of a group of smaller children for a day of swimming at the beach during one of these retreats. Despite the fact that it was strictly forbidden, or perhaps because it was, Severn led the children into the marsh that spread off the eastern lakeshore.
The marsh was surprisingly difficult to navigate and much larger than Severn expected. It was not long before the group was completely turned around and hopelessly lost. As they splashed about, they were beset upon by an enormous dire alligator. The creature was vicious and surprisingly fast as it ruthlessly slaughtered all of the children and turned upon Severn.
In the darkness that followed, Lythertida came to him, speaking harshly. Severn had known only wickedness in his life. He was a bully, the child of another bully; it was not really his fault that he was wicked and he had potential for something else. Something better. Something good. But he'd better learn some humility and patience. He would have to demonstrate kindness and charity. He could never serve Asmodeus or evil in any way again, he would have to champion the cause of good if he wanted Lythertida to restore him. He could never return to his family and he would have to make his heirloom weapon--traditionally used by any Morcant Hellknight in training--into a tool of redemption by turning it against evil at every opportunity.
If he could do these things, the empyreal lord promised to restore him and, confident he could weasel out of his obligations as usual, Severn had quickly agreed. As a warning and reminder to Severn of what happens when one tries to play a god for a fool, Lythertida left one of the boy's legs in its ravaged condition. Given the gift of life but terrified to cross the god again for fear of losing the use of his other leg, Severn now travels the land, championing the cause of good as he promised and trying his hardest to put his wicked past behind him. He hopes to earn another blessing from Lythertida in the future by proving his loyalty and devotion to his new philosophy through acts of kindness and generosity as well as the smiting of evil.
