Sethos al-Sabah is the first-born son to Masika al-Sabah-Nur (mother) and Sethenes Sabah Nur (father), whose twice-great grandfather, Abrax, was elevated to nobility and given the title of Sabah Nur (Morning Light) after taking command of one of the Kaleshite military units - of which he was a mid-ranking officer at the time - and turning a rout by the opposing genies into a decisive victory for the Sultan and the Kaleshite empire. Sethos will take the title of Sabah Nur when Sethenes decides that he is no longer able or willing to head the family. The generations since Abrax's ascent into nobility have seen the Sabah Nur family's fortunes and influence grow, in part due to Khemet I's decision to allow Abrax to retain command of his unit. When questioned why he would allow an officer of an opposing military to retain his rank, Khemet told Abrax, "'He who knows when he can fight and when he cannot will be victorious.' I would not remove a commander who inspires loyalty in his men, and it would do Osirion no good to remove a capable commander who is loyal to his country, as doing so would only inspire resentment in those who would otherwise support me." And so Abrax's loyalty to Osirion was sealed alongside the Pharaoh's.

Abrax was the last of the militarily-inclined of the Sabah Nur bloodline. His descendants focused on other pursuits. His eldest son, specifically, became a successful merchant of alchemical extracts, potions, and regents. It was this business which allowed the Sabah Nur family not only to survive but to thrive. Each head of the family fathered at least two children; one to manage the estate and monitor the market, and one to travel and assist with obtaining materials which could not be reasonably located. It was into this life that Sethos was born. With the resources and influence available to the family, Sethos and his younger brother Ammon were raised in a life of luxury, but also a life of study. Sethenes wanted to ensure an easy transfer of power for the family in the event of his death and brought in tutors for every subject with even minimal relevance to the family's business ventures.

Sethos and Ammon quickly realized that combining their efforts and splitting their time, rather than focusing on the business or the field, would give both a more rounded knowledge of the world and of themselves. It would also allow them to minimize the monotony and take greater satisfaction in both aspects of the family business. It is in this manner that Sethos and Ammon alternately apprenticed to their aunt Ziza, Sethenes' sister, as she undertook research and hunting expeditions for Sethenes. With Pharoah Khemet III opening Osirion's tombs to relic hunters and other adventurers, Sethos and Ammon were unwilling to let the opportunity pass either of them by and received permission from Sethenes and the blessing of Ziza to depart as an alchemists and explorers in their own right, and were able to seperately take part as one of the first groups into the Necropolis, which is a story all on its own.

Now, Ammon and Sethos are attending the auction in Wati, not only to see what fortunes Ammon's endeavors have wrought for the family, but to compare findings with and against the other groups that went into the Necropolis.
