The caster is a canker cultist in abomination vaults. The spell description does not mention of any pluses. I will continue to ignore the pluses. I thought I would ask just to confirm if I was missing a rule as to why. Thank you

Ok. Thank you. I am running latest version of foundry with latest of pf2.

In Foundry, I see this with Ray of Frost and Phantom pain for example. Heightened phantom pain damage is 4d4 +4. I do not know if this plus is the spell casting modifier. I am making an assumption. Ok, we will ignore the plus as we have done so far.

I am running Abomination Vaults. Old school dungeon crawl. Reminds of my AD&D2 days playing Temple of Elemental Evil. Blast from the past!

Hello, I see people are adding spell casting modifier to damage rolls of spell attacks. In Foundry for pf2. I see the same rule applied.

I do not see mention of this in official rules. Even the spell itself does not indicate to add spellcasting modifier. Where is this rule indicated?

Thank you Captain Morgan for confirming my understanding.

So, no clear ruling on flanking in round one. Alright, we will have to make a group agreement on this for going forward.

We had a rule discussion that the table tonight and were not able to come to an agreement. The player believes flanking cannot occur in the beginning of combat unless both monsters/allies have already acted. Example: In the first round, the PC has an enemy in behind him. Another enemy gets the initiative in combat and goes to be in front of the PC and attacks. The player is indicating that flanking rules does not apply yet because the enemy in behind has not had their fist turn yet.

This is the ruling.

To flank a foe, you and your ally must be on opposite sides of the creature. A line drawn between the center of your space and the center of your ally's space must pass through opposite sides or opposite corners of the foe's space. Additionally, both you and the ally have to be able to act, you must be wielding melee weapons or be able to make an unarmed attack, you can't be under any effects that prevent you from attacking, and you must both have the enemy within reach. If you are wielding a reach weapon, you use your reach with that weapon for this purpose.

It says "both you and the ally have to be able to act". To me, this means as long and the other is not incapacitated in any way then flanking applies. Initiative does not matter.

The additional reasoning the player has is that for reaction. You do not get your reaction until your first turn. He reasons if the PC cannot react then how can they provide flanking bonus.

Thoughts?

Hello, my players will find this soon. Considering it is rank 2. That means they can only create a level 1 poltergeist. That is fine. I am using foundry. How do I make the level 4 weakened poltergeist to level 1?

Very helpful Captain Morgan. Level DC is what I have done in the moment for the Thaumaturgist to determine if it was indeed a haunt. I was not able to find official ruling on this hence this post.

I will be using "You realize this is a haunt -- a localized spiritual echo, rather than a true undead. But you do not know how to disable it." That resolves the story-wise response.

Thank you!

The party comes across a haunt. It is a ghost. Does the Thaumaturgist know this is a haunt automatically? Do they have to make a EL check? If they succeed on the check how do they know it is a haunt vs a ghost to fight story-wise?

From what I read gauntlight is protected by magic and to a lesser extent the keep. This means using detect magic anywhere will always detect magic, correct?

Re: Gauntlight is magically protected from damage, as
described on page 215. This protection has bled into
the surrounding ruins somewhat, slowing the usual
rate of decay over the past 500 years.

Players are level 2 coming out of beginners box.

Book indicates Wrin can teach Ghost Hunter archetype. It does not mention cost. It also does not mention how long it would take. Archives do not indicate this fact either. Well, at least that I can fine.

I did! Just forgot that piece was there. Still an initial reference would be best.

Would of been good if Kobold Surrender was indicated with first kobold encounter or at least referenced. Anyway, thank you.

Hello, The party encounters the first group of kobolds. They kill two of them and want to make the others surrender. The rules do not have anything for that. I ended up allowing the Champion to use intimidation. I would like to know what the actual rule is.

Also, the spike traps. What do they look like. Are they just a simple spike strip?

Thank you.

It really seems odd that the monster gets to decide what happens to them.

Why does this work on mindless creatures? Seems broken to me.

Anyway, yes I will always use the resistance option. Maybe this should be the only option available.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I just started gm-ing pf2. A player has a champion with Glimpse of Redemption reaction. This trivializes every encounter as there is always a successful hit by a monster nullified. Just wait until the boss fight! The boss will never be able to harm the pcs!

Also, apparently this works on zombies, skeletons and other mindless monsters. Seriously??

If all it says is '+1 shortsword' that means that it is a shortsword with a +1 potency weapon rune on it - which is a level 2 item. So that rune is what they are identifying and selling.

For identification DC, use the DC by level table.

And the price is listed in the rune item description. Things sell for half of their purchase price.

Thank you! Would be nice if runes was a reference on the short sword page.

GMing PF2 for the first time. Party finds a showrtsword +1

Rules indicate to use Identify Magic action to determine what it is. Must use item level to determine DC. 2e.aonprd.com does not list showrtsword +1 ? How am I to know item level? Also, what if party wants to sell it. How am I to know value?

Thank you.

I tried Mobile Improvements. It is better than without. Still not very usable. I will check if everyone has access to a tablet. I hope so.

I am really surprised Paizo does not have a solution for this. Foundry support indicated they have no plans on providing mobile support. Dndbeyond has been doing this for years! I feel like we have to make compromises if we want to play pe2.

I looked at that but Pathbuilder2e does not connect to Foundry.

Trying to switch over from 5e and dndbeyond/Above vtt. It was recommended on this forum to use Foundry. I have purchased Foundry. I have just discovered that the character sheet is not possible on mobile?

The reason this is important is for the people that play in person and they will not have a laptop. Only their phone. So far Foundry support has not provided a solution.

Any solutions? Thank you.

Yes, it was in the beginner box as that is the one I will run first. In the paizo video for this adventure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tj2S_Qf49E&list=PLOHNx3GvTFbGASdWHNVOn LXwNWntlOri0

Players had to do two checks to climb down a 10ft wall. One of the players actually commented. Really, I have to do a second check for the last 5 feet? LOL.

In the core rule book it mentions an example of crossing a river. First check is to get halfway and another check to complete the crossing. Example does not indicate how wide this river is.

I will stick to the way it is in 5e. One check and no checks for something that is clearly simple like hopping down a 5 ft wall.

Thank you for the comments everyone!

You have to use climb speed. What about when not in combat? That is the part that makes no sense to me.

Coming from 5e only 1 check is required to accomplish a task. In PE2 you have to make 2 rolls? Example: climbing down a 10 foot wall. Make an athletics check for the first 5 feet and another for the second 5 feet? Why? considering you do not even take any damage from a 5 foot fall.

Now if the wall was 100 feet. You have to make two checks. One for the first 50 feet and another for the next 50 feet. Two checks for 10 feet or two checks for 100 feet. This make no sense.

I will be dming my first pe2 game in a few weeks. I am thinking of making skills checks just one roll.I would like some input from others about this. Maybe I am not understanding something!

Thank you.

pathbuilder2e.com will do the trick. I assume this integrates with Foundry?

Foundry gets you all the core books with purchase. That is great too.

What about homebrew? How do I create homebrew items/monsters? Is that done in Foundry?

Thank you.

Hello, Looking to migrate to PF2E. I have some questions that I need answered before doing so.

1) We use dndbeyond for character management. I only see PE has nexus but it is in early access. Is Nexus very usable, otherwise?

2) We use AboveVTT. It is open source and free to use. It only works with dndbeyond, however. What similar vtt would be used for PE that would interrogate with nexus?

3) If I was to get hardcover books. Would I have to pay extra for electronic version of the same book on nexus?

4) Does nexus have homebrew? I cannot see any details for this.

Thank you.
