Born in Mendev's capital city, the presence of the Worldwound has been a fact of life for Selene her entire life. Her father, a local merchant, fell in love with an aloof but beautiful crusader, who stayed out of the ongoing battles long enough to give birth to Selene. Her mother's fate ultimately unknown, likely lost in the endless battle against the Abyss, Selene grew up unaware of the power passed on in her blood. Aside from this power, the only thing she has of her mother's is a symbol of Sarenrae. It was perhaps this power that drew the attention of a rogue demon that escaped the wardstones and attacked her. She survived, but this encounter awoke the dormant power of the Abyssal heritage left by her mother. Unable to understand the nature of her power and the rage that always accompanied it, Selene turned to the gods. Swearing an oath to Sarenrae, the goddess of her mother, and to Iomedae, the goddess of her city, she undertook the grueling challenges of paladinhood in hopes that the self-discipline instilled in her would allow her to control her demonic impulses. Selene desires to protect the innocent, to help those who have fallen from the path of righteousness, or end those who will not repent. She hopes that with every evil she defeats or redeems she perhaps will take one more step away from whatever it is that fuels her rage and hatred.
Personality:
Outwardly Selene is warm, understanding, and pious. Quick to smile, always ready to lend a hand or a sympathetic ear, and a fiercely loyal friend; Selene is easy to like. She would much rather solve her problems with words than violence, but will not hesitate when the time comes for swords. However, she constantly struggles with feelings of rage and hatred that she does not understand. While she is driven by her Abyssal heritage, she desires to rise above her baser desires and be a worthy person. She does not always succeed, but she always strives. She seeks to redeem or destroy evil as she can, always fearing the possibility of succumbing to it.
Appearance:
Tall and powerfully built for her age. Waist-length black hair that she wears in a coiled plait most of the time. Brown, almond-shaped eyes. Pale skin. She is plain faced, but not unappealing. Tattoo on left upper arm of Iomedae's Sword of Valor, tattoo on upper right arm of Sarenrae's Winged Ankh. When unarmored she wears simple clothing or priestess vestments when acting on behalf of her faith.
