Hound Master (Cavalier)
Most cavaliers charge into battle atop mighty steeds, however some lack the finesse with equines required to be proficient riders. Still wishing to serve their order, hound masters choose to fight beside war hounds which are powerful animals trained for battle. A hound master has the following class features.

War Hound (Ex): At 1st level, a hound master gains the service of a loyal war hound to aid him in battle. This hound functions as a druid’s animal companion, using the cavalier’s level as his effective druid level. The creature has the same stats as a wolf.

The war hound is always considered combat trained and begins play with Light Armor Proficiency as a bonus feat. A hound master’s hound does not gain the share spells special ability. These hounds are not suitable for riding and cannot be trained to carry riders.

A hound master’s bond is strong and if the war hound dies, the cavalier may find another hound to serve him after 1 week of mourning. This new hound does not gain the link, evasion, devotion, or improved evasion special abilities until the next time the cavalier gains a level. This ability replaces mount.

Pack Tactics (Ex): At 3rd level, a hound master learns greater coordination with his war hound. When a hound master and his hound are flanking the same creature, the hound master’s flanking bonus on attack rolls increases to +4. This ability replaces cavalier’s charge.

Expert Handler (Ex): Upon reaching 4th level, the hound master may take on a second war hound; while smaller and weaker than his primary hound, it is still a useful ally. This ability functions like the war hound ability, except that the hound master's effective druid level is equal to his cavalier level – 3. In addition, this ability allows the war hounds to choose from teamwork feats when selecting feats gained from additional Hit Die. This ability replaces expert trainer.

Go For the Throat (Ex): At 11th level, a hound master has perfected fighting beside his animals. Whenever an opponent is tripped or overrun by one of his war hounds, the opponent provokes an attack of opportunity from the hound master. The target must be threatened by both the hound master and his war hound. This ability replaces mighty charge.

Kill Command (Ex): At 20th level, whenever an opponent is threatened by the hound master and both of his hounds, the hound master may issue a kill command. This is a swift action that grants both hounds an attack of opportunity on the target. A creature cannot be the target of this ability more than once per day. This ability replaces supreme charge.

One of my friends was DMing a homebrew campaign and there were some NPCs introducing a bad guy. They're like, "Delnas is a foul criminal responsible for one of this cites most atrocious crimes---"

Several of us ask what the crime was, and before he can reply I yell out, "NO, NOT THIRTY-TWO STAB TUESDAY?!"

Hey guys, I made a small illustration to help visualize the ships journey. I hope this will help pick character traits and backgrounds as well. Feel free to have your players look at it.

"Sparky" takes the piece of dried meat from Belros and shocks it with a bolt of electricity from between his horns. While chewing on it contentedly he lays down beside Belros' feet.

Variel pulls the door open from the side giving the fighter a clear view inside. Racks for weapons line the walls of this chamber; above the racks hang various shields, pieces of armor, weapons, and standards on display. Most of the racks are empty, but a few weapons remain in place. A horrible stench fills the room as well, akin to the smell of rotten eggs mixed with the reek of an open sewer.

Two creatures stand in the middle of the room. These humanoids' scaly hides are dull gray. Their frames resembles that of a cave lizard, with a long tail and crests on their heads and backs. Seeing the door open they let out long hisses and both reach for javelins from their back.

Initiative!:
Belros (V) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Kaldar (S) 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Kendric (K) 1d20 ⇒ 9
Variel (G) 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

?Lizard men creatures? 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Initiative Order:
(24) Kaldar
(18) Belros
(15) Variel
(12) ?Lizard men creatures?
(9) Kendric

I'll have a map up later tonight. They are standing in the middle of the western wing which is clear. There is five feet between them. Belros is in front of the door with Kendrick to his right, Variel to his left and Kaldar behind him. If you would like to wait to post actions until seeing that map I don't mind.

Looking at the lizard it seems more like a scalded dog than an attacking beast. It's head is lowered and tail dragging along the ground. It is already Intimidated into being helpful so you would have to make a Handle Animal check to try and command it.

The shocker lizard begins to whine. It spins in a circle before laying on it's back showing it's yellow belly to Belros.

That reminds me of the saying, "Never pick up a duck in a dungeon."

After Belros steps into the room the lizard begins hiss, waves of electricity rolling along it's back. The air is sharp with ozone. It hunkers down on all fours making an aggressive display.

Maybe have the PC's return with the Stag Lord and experience a pretty high CR haunt or combination of haunts? Culminating in this strange theme of forgiveness you've got going. Perhaps help the NPC develop a little.

Here's a cheap magic item I think might be useful ^ _^

Pipes of the Sewer
A city which spends 1 BP and has two sets of pipes may enlist a crew of street performers who regularly use the pipes to attract and dispose of vermin. A healthy populace is a happy one. +1 Loyalty

I just finished reading this book and wow! I love the writing style, the characters are great, setup is wonderful. I've been meaning to read this forever and got reminded again by Tycho from Penny Arcade. If you haven't read it yet it's out on paperback and worth the $9.

I think this is probably one of the few campaigns I've done where there is a significant benefit to being horseback. Being able to Explore every kind of hex in 1 day and travel through 3 hexes a day is very nice. I wonder how long it will take my players to figure that out....they tend to completely forget horses exist.

That's actually a pretty good question. In the playtest boards we did discuss Fast Bomb + Rapid shot and just bombs and it was said that the intention was to only gain a bomb per iterative attack. I don't know how that would interact with using other weapons though... I would allow you to throw a bomb per iterative attack and if you have any other attacks from say rapid shot or haste I would let you use them with other weapons.

I added in a quote from feat prerequisites that clears it up pretty plainly.

I reincarnated Sheriff Hemlock, from RotRL, as a goblin when he met an untimely end... the irony of that roll was so thick you could use it for full-plate.

I think I would go with a Gnome Barbarian myself. Focus on Dex to keep your attack rolls high and pour on the Power Attack.

If you went the mounted combat way remember...you can mount anything you have a saddle for. When your riding dog get's old and grey pick up an exotic saddle and start riding around the other party beatstick! Masterblaster style.

I think that round 1 you would detect the presence of an aura. Round 2 it will tell you how strong the most powerful aura you detect is and how many. Round 3 you can specify the strength of specific auras as well as their location (most likely down to a 5ft square). Then you could make a Knowledge (Arcana) to -splorch- killed by sneak attack.

So long as you can hit a DC 20 Use Magic Device check you can use any wand you have as well. Anybody can put ranks in UMD for a 50/50 chance at success with a wand 5 will do, and for only 2,500gp you can get an item made that gives you a +5 bonus to that check as well.

The main thing I noticed the lack of synergy with was Jump and Tumble.
