About Satine of Oppara

Inspired by Karlie Kloss

The life of those cursed with Psychic powers can be a sad affair. The universe touches these poor souls with madness, insanity, and eventually death. Few are more sad than the Spiritualists, those who find themselves permanently attached to some long dead spirit.

Satine Nelas was once an ordinary teenage noblewoman, the daughter of a wealthy merchant lord and her life was absolutely perfect. She was destined to one day walk down the aisle, grant her wealthy husband a family and quietly toil away in silence as her loveless marriage dissolved into boredom and lies. But a potential future marriage was all she cared about and Satine spent most of her days batting her pretty eyes every time noble son looked at her in a pleasing manner.

But the fates had a different future in mind for her.

The changes were small at first, items moving on their own, strange noises at night, whispering voices whenever Satine entered the room. The problem grew so bad that Satine’s family brought her to a temple of Pharasma to discover the source of Satine’s haunting.

The priests of the Dead Queen delivered a frightening diagnosis: Pharasma had chosen Lady Nelas, Satine's ancestor, to return to the world as a spirit and the Goddess had “honored” Satine with the duty of being a conduit for the Gray Lady’s return.

For a noble girl of Taldor, this was like a death sentence. Satine was tainted, cursed with psychic powers that made her an outcast in the upper classes of Taldoran nobility. After just a few months of living with her affliction, Satine was sent away to live among a cloistered group of Clerics to Pharasma.

That would have been the end of Satine’s story and the beginning of a long sad existence as her potential and intelligence were waste in a locked room for the rest of her life.

But after a year of living in the cloister, a man arrived to speak with Satine about her future. Apparently he represented the Pathfinder Society and he had heard of her unique talent to manifest the spirit of Lady Nelas on the physical plane. He explained that in her day, Nelas was a famous Ventrue Captain in the society and as her descendant, Satine was technically an heir to that legacy.

Perhaps, the Pathfinder claimed, you were always destined to be a Pathfinder and Lady Nelas is trying to push her towards her true career.

“Whatever, just get me out of here.” Satine muttered.
