Hahah, good one! And while I have nothing against blacksmiths and consider the course very reasonable, I wouldn't be reading that book >D

I guess most adventurers/PCs are borderline personalities - why would you go and kill a poor dragon instead of tending to your house and family..

Well, this rule was already in place when I joined the game, so I never questioned it.. however, it eventually made all the players chase after some kind of rerolls.. they keep us alive.. On the other hand, rolling 20 always has some additional benefit..

I've never played Rolemaster, but I did play a bit of WH40k where characters died a lot or lost arms, legs, eyes.. And I'm totally fine with that, if it serves the story or the character's psychological profile, but I'm not fine with suddenly being denied an ability for, in my eyes, pretty arbitrary reason :/ Or I'm blind and failing to see sth obvious???

Catastrophic fumbles affect mostly the PCs, as NPCs roll the dices only while "on screen" while a PC make plenty of rolls in his career.

We had a discussion along these lines regarding premanent curses :D It's not the same if a permanent curse is cast upon an NPC who will die in the same battle or disappear in some other manner vs. a PC who has to live with it :D I.e. curses are much stronger when cast by NPCs..

Yeah, we have a houserule that 1 is always a fail, always with terrible consequences.. And dc rises if we're scribing in an inn and not a library, etc.

I'm not always aware what's a houserule any more..

So that's what I'd like to do - give myself some bonuses and reroll an accidental 1..

Speaking of weird results, are you aware that you have posted the same thread, with the same timestamp, two times?

No, obviously not.. I've made this account yesterday, I'm not yet familiar with the surroundings :D Glitch?

I'll try to remove it..

Thank you, that was my line of thought as well.. I'm only making scrolls all day long, I should be able to use my regular boosts and rerolls on it? I kinda made my character around the concepts of luck and curses, and wouldn't like to be denied my main mechanic all of a sudden..

Let me expand a bit just to make sure I've covered every angle..

So, my dm presented me with the following excerpt: "Cursed items are any magic items with some sort of potentially negative impact on the user. Occasionally they mix bad with good, forcing characters to make difficult choices. Cursed items are almost never made intentionally. Instead they are the result of rushed work, inexperienced crafters, or a lack of proper components. While many of these items still have functions, they either do not work as intended or come with serious drawbacks. When a magic item creation skill check fails by 5 or more, roll on Table: Common Item Curses to determine the type of curse possessed by the item." - claiming that it's self-evident that if there's a chance for an item to be cursed upon creation, I can't use rerolls :/ It's not evident to me, so he directed me to find a rule which says it's allowed :/ I tried, but couldn't find anything so specific (nor could I find anything to the contrary), so I came here seeking more experienced players' advice :)

When making scrolls most folk just take 10 and call it a day.

Yes, I know, but I can't, due to my oracle's curse.. Which my dm saw as a nice opportunity for accidentally creating some cursed scrolls and would roll the die instead of me.. He argued I can't use rerolls due to scribing scrolls being a lengthy process including mental focus and effort and excluding the element of luck, but I disagree cos the ability normally lets me reroll skill checks regardless of their length or whatever.. In the end he said I'm free to change hia mind, so I'm looking for advice/opinions?

Hi guys, I need some help with the rules on scribing scrolls.. Can I use rerolls such as Oracle revelation Fortune to reroll a bad or failed skill check when I try to make a scroll?

Thank you!
