Background:
"Zev. So that's what your name is." The girl closed the ragged journal she had found and looked down at the wolf that had led her to the secluded grove. His eyes hadn't left her since they had arrived, its tail wagging and his eyes looking at her expectantly. "Don't look at me like that. I don't care what the journal says." It was all a lot to take in at once.

***

This wolf, Zev, had been stalking around her home for days now, slowly inching it's way closer with each passing day. For some reason she couldn't explain, she knew the wolf meant no harm. After a week of seeing the wolf on the horizon each afternoon, Sarya gathered her courage and approached the animal. It didn't run and it didn't attack, it simply stood there, eyes locked on the girl. When she came within an arm's reach of the wolf, she was able to make out a subdued whimper. The wolf watched her for several minutes before turning toward the nearby forest, a final glance back at the girl indicating he wanted her to follow.

Sarya wasn't sure why she bounded off into the woods after a wolf. She expected to be led to an injured cub or dying mate. What the wolf actually led her to was beyond anything she could have imagined. Amongst the heavy undergrowth of the forest was a circular clearing, lined with rounded stones arranged in a ring around a central pedestal. Upon the pedestal lay the heavily decomposed body of an elderly man, a ragged journal resting on his chest. Everything about the scene was depressing yet somewhat poetic, including the way the plant-life in the circle seemed to droop and wilt.

The wolf had brought her here for a reason...and the only way to find out why was to read the journal. She took a deep breath and sighed, steeling herself as she approached the pedestal and the dead body upon it. She turned her face aside as she got near the body, extending her arm as far as she could to grab the journal without getting too close. That's when everything sprang to life. Runes carved into the stones began to glow and hum softly. The grass and other plant life in the circle seemed to perk up all at once, as if trying to get a better view of the newcomer. Even Zev joined in with a few happy barks, though Sarya had no idea why she knew he was happy. Well, she didn't know he was happy so much as she felt he was happy.

***

That all happened 6 years ago, Sarya was little more than a child at the time but became enraptured by the journal and all the knowledge it held. She slowly withdrew from society as her connection to nature grew until she finally gave into the irresistible urge to live amongst nature rather than her own family in Heldren. She migrated south, hoping to find a grove she could call her own.

Or at least that's what she thought she was supposed to do. The journal was full of information on how to become a druid but was sketchy on the details of well...everything else. As a result, Sarya is a novice druid with little to no knowledge of what exactly a druid is. Having never met another druid (and too proud to admit her ignorance if she did) she has been left to make up her druidic beliefs as she goes along.

The unnatural winter that has recently stricken her home has her concerned. Lacking the ability to deal with the issue alone, she makes her way into her old home town of Heldren to seek the aid of others.

Personality:
Sarya has had very little human interaction, especially recently, and as a result lacks most of the social niceties that more civilized folk might possess. She's terse and somewhat rude to those she doesn't like and doesn't suffer the company of fools. She has a deeply ingrained distrust of most people, especially bandits and thieves as well as a borderline hatred for those that flaunt wealth and status.

Despite being rough around the edges, she still has a personable side. She enjoys the company of those she finds entertaining or amusing, which up to this point has only included the occasional travelers and their stories. Around animals, especially Zev, Sarya is a completely different person; talkative, friendly, and playful. This fondness for animals is why Sarya so readily took on the mantle of a druid.

Sarya is hesitant to return to her home to seek help. She is a very prideful person and dislikes having to admit that she can't solve her problem alone. Her pride also makes it difficult for her to accept help from others as she prefers not to rely on others for things she believes she is capable of doing herself. Sarya also dreads the possibility of running into her family again while in Heldren. With Taldan society being the way it is, having their oldest child run away to live amongst the forest was no doubt a huge embarrassment for the family and Sarya doesn't have the courage to face them after putting them through that.

Appearance:

There is little about Sarya's physical appearance that would suggest that she is anything other than a pure-blooded Taldan. Her only feature that proves otherwise is the streaks of blonde that run through her otherwise light brown and wavy hair. The tone of her eyes seems to match that of her hair though her gaze is a bit more stern than someone would expect from a woman her age. She also possesses the typical bronzed skin of her Taldan ancestors, though her slightly darker color betrays her previous life of hard labor on her family's farm as well as her current nomadic lifestyle.

Nearly everything Sarya wears was crafted by her own hand from animal skins and furs. Both her pants and her vest are a rough patchwork of various animal hides. Her backpack, belts, pouches, scabbards, boots, and bracers all share similar craftsmanship. Underneath the protective layer of hide, Sarya wears clothes that can only be described as 'simple'; a green top and brown pants, both of which bear marks of Sarya's frequent trials in the forest. Despite the rarity of other humans in her forest home, Sarya still wears the jewelry of her former life, unable to truly let go of some of her Taldan proclivities.

Sarya has tattoos on both arms, symbols taken from the covers of the journal she clutches tightly at night as she reads by campfire. Given her extreme attachment to said journal, her tattoos have a great deal of significance to her. The eagle symbol that adorns the front of the journal is marked on her left arm (because the eagle is on the left when she reads the book) while the tribal pattern on the rear cover covers her right.

Appearance: Zev's fur is a collection of browns, grays, and a few spots of white. He has two distinguishing features that set him apart from a normal wolf. Firstly are his sharp blue eyes. Secondly is the camouflaged bandana Sarya insists on tying around his neck. Despite protests from the animal (he manages to slip out of it nearly every night), she reties it every day and remarks on how cute it makes him look.
