Seeing the concern on Solstice's face, Sargon reaches over to pat her on the shoulder, a rare moment of compassion coming over him.

"The marut was an exceptionally powerful being, and highly resistant to magic. I can understand your apprehension in chasing after something like that. Thankfully, I don't think we need to. We just need to give the information we have to Tahonikepsu and let her decide what to do with it. We know, and I can confirm the Professor's findings, that the Amythest Sage is either in Katapesh or northern Nex. That is very valuable information."

Turning back to the group he says with a much more matter of fact tone, "We've done our job. We explored and protected vast amounts of knowledge, and even saved an ancient tormented soul from imprisonment. Now we must set Saruna free from her shackles. Perhaps she can even help the society further in the future."

He begins to travel back up the stairs to get the sphinx, barely casting a glance at the others as he does so, his massive elemental sliding along behind him.

With gravely words, he seems to address the elemental.

If you speak terran:
"And how have you been since last I saw you? Good I hope. Give my best to Rumble and the others when you see them. As always, I am extremely grateful that you answered my call."

I fully agree! Great game, wonderful characters and players, and GM I have to hand it to you, you really sold the story for me. Thanks for everything, all of you.

I look forward to getting in another game with you folks someday.

Cheers!

Sargon moves up to each of the wounded party members and, without asking, taps each with an infernal healing spell from his wand.

"You can handle the rest of your healing, but this is in case something else happens."

He then consumes the spell energy of one of his prepared spells to replenish his arcane reservoir. Burn a 4th to get 4 points back.

Sargon sends another bolt of lightning crackling toward the marut. He makes it more difficult to evade by using more of his arcane reservoir.

This time he bumps the DC+2 instead of CL.does 1 d6 less. I forgot to add in his intense spells bonus last time so the 46 would have been 51/2=25.

The Professor knows that despite the lightning that the Marut wields, it is no more resistant to electricity than to any other spell. But as you've recently seen it does have formidable resistance to those. In addition, as an Inevitable, its constructed nature renders it immune to death effects, disease, mind-affecting effects, necromancy effects, paralysis, poison, sleep, stun, and any effect that requires a Fortitude save (unless the effect also works on objects, or is harmless). Inevitables are not subject to nonlethal damage, ability damage, ability drain, fatigue, exhaustion, or energy drain.

I noticed the 60' range on all the statue spells, but I didn't see where the big guy was on the map before and just assumed he moved up next to Sargon when the Zelekhuts left, so this changes things. Sargon would tell anyone nearby about the statues, since there is no big Marut next to us(I think that is what the big guy is). I specifically didn't say anything before because I thought he was right next to Sargon, and that is also why I stressed his dimensional slip didn't provoke. If possible, can I change my action and just stay put, and cast my own spell?

Thoth, Southwest, Dismissal (range 60')

Sargon starts to step back and suddenly slips through a crack in space, only to reappear behind the statue of Thoth. He quickly directs the dismissal power of the statue toward the inevitable.

Fingers Crossed. If nothing else, this should get his attention away from Seldanna and the Professor. Otherwise this is going to hurt. As two points of clarification, first, that move(dimensional slide, 1 point) doesn't provoke, and second, when I say behind the statue, I just mean on the opposite side from the inevitable. Gotta make him work for it if I can. ;)

All Sages and Servants of the Sages we have encountered within this location have been guilty of the violation of universal laws either on their own behalf, or in aiding and abetting such creatures. This Amethyst Sage bears the greatest weight of guilt, but his undying servants must answer for their own crimes as well.

"While my associates work to stop that device, perhaps we could continue our discussion on your goals, and how we can help you achieve them." Sargon says with a sigh, obviously glad violence has been averted, even if just for a few more moments.

"How exactly did the Sage use that device to baffle and delay judgement? We may be able to emulate those actions to take control of the device and stop its movements." he says while gesturing to the artificial sun.

Once answered, Sargon continues to address the inevitable.

"Having destroyed the construct above, which I now believe is the undying servant you just mentioned, I would say it has already answered for any crimes you have judged it guilty of. As for the Sage himself, do you know where he is? I don't see anyone else and we were lead to believe he was sealed inside here."

"You are plainly conspirators in the many attempts here to thwart universal laws. Do you have anything to offer in mitigation of these crimes?"

"Making assumptions of conspiration on a foundation as weak as perceived evidence isn't something I would have expected from the logical minds of an inevitable." Sargon fires off, his eyebrow raised in question.

"As I said before, my group and I are seekers of knowledge and protectors of history, and to those ends we have come into this archive. In doing so, we found many of the archive's wards failing and at least one violent construct. We were forced to destroy the construct, but not before learning that it served someone it called the Amethyst Sage, who I take to be one of the Jeweled Sages you recently mentioned." He pauses just long enough to see if there is recognition in the eyes of the inevitable.

"The construct explained that the Amethyst Sage had sealed themselves on this lower level and that we would have no way to get here without a sage jewel, so we destroyed the construct and used its heart to craft a facsimile of a sage jewel which we then used to gain access to this level."

"As you can plainly see from those two objects over there that are hurtling toward one another, we have little time before they collide and we would merely like to stop that from happening before we continue to discuss your judgement. Perhaps we could even assist you in finding the jeweled sage you seek?

Sargon answers the professor with a firm approval of the plan.

"Agreed. Just be sure to stop that collision."

He then strides confidently over to the Zelekhuts, intercepting them as they approach. It is not as if invisibility will stop a Zelekhut from seeing me.

"Well met great beings of the outer realms." he starts with a gracious bend at the waist, though he never takes his eyes off the inevitables.

Sargon's eyes roll as he listens to the group natter on, and without looking at anyone he sighs, closes his eyes, and silently counts to ten.

"They are not the same god with different names." Sargon says with a tone one might have when dealing with a young child. "But I can understand how someone might think so."

Moving to face the group, he continues, his voice measured and without emotion, "Saruna was speaking of Isis, and the only place we have seen reference to her was on the glass statues we encountered. I believe if we take this newly refreshed gem, now free from its curse, and present it to one or both statues, that Isis may come to empower the gem with her magic. At least that is what I took away from what Saruna said."

With barely a turn of his head he says over his shoulder to the sphinx, "Would that be about the right of things Saruna?"

Then, as an afterthought he adds, "We found an overly large heart in a canopic jar that you might have interest in. If you come along with us, you can retrieve it from where we found it."

After scanning the first page he turned to and the following few for just a handful of seconds, he slams the book shut and places it back into the haversack.

"I believe if we remove the curse, the gem should be functional for our purposes."

"I merely had to confirm what I already suspected." Sargon replies to the ancient sphinx.

Speaking to his group, his voice flat, "It seems there is nothing we need from Badru, other than his gem. Let's be off to harvest it and come back here quickly to do what we need to do."

"This settles things, at least as far as I am concerned." Sargon says with a tone of finality.

Turning to the sphinx he says with a concerned and respectful tone, "Saruna, you never asked us to kill anyone, and only wished to be set free." Then his eyes grow cold, and his voice becomes hard, "Badru on the other hand has this twisted desire to end you and blame you for everything that is wrong in his world. That angers me."

Directing his next words to the group, "They both have been unjustly treated, imprisoned in this place for so very long against their will, and I think that Badru is dangerous in his current state. If we need to clip someone's wings, I am with the professor, and think we need to shut the construct down. Before we do, we need you to direct us to any knowledge that might help us fashion a working sage jewel, if you don't know how to do it yourself."

Communicating in common, under the belief that Badru doesn't seem to understand it, Sargon says, "I agree Professor, a full investigation of the upper floor may well prove enlightening."

Turning back to Badru and speaking in Ancient Osirian, "Badru, I believe in order to fully understand what needs to be done, we need to return to the floor above. We need to confront the Sphinx while we are there, as well as find some items of great import. We may return with her heart, or some form of jewel. Can you tell us what we would need to do with the jewel or the heart once we have it?"

Once Badru answers, Sargon nods his head to Seldanna, blinking his eye lids as if falling asleep.

I say, "Why choose?"

"I think we should explain our situation more fully, before something happens that could be...problematic." Sargon says to the group, still in common.

If the group likes this idea Sargon will do this:
Turning to Badru he comments in ancient osirian, "Normally I don't care one wit about such things, but I think now it is important you realize that we are merely working for the current jeweled sages, the Diamond Sage Tahonikepsu to be specific, and we are not actual sages ourselves. As such, we do not have sage jewels with us. We still want to stop any destruction or removal of artifacts, but do you have any recommendations on how we could do that without jewels?"

If the group rejects Sargon's idea, he doesn't speak further with Badru and just ignore the spoiler.

In ancient osirion, "Badru, tell us all you know about the current threats in here, other than the traitor that is. To formulate a solid strategy, the more information you can impart to us the better."

Quickly looking to his team and then back to Badru, Sargon continues.

"These inevitables you mentioned, describe them. I would know what we are dealing with before we encounter them. Also, tell me all you can about the powerful golems we will need to contend with."

Sargon makes note of the mole and comments to the group, "It's very odd that the first sign of recent life here would be arriving around the same time as us. Perhaps Tahonikepsu unsealed more than she thought..."

When the watcher greets the group, Sargon translates its words to common for those unfamiliar with Ancient Osiriani, "He greets us as Sages, and asks if we have come to destroy the traitor and relieve him of his burdens."

Turning back to the watcher Sargon replies, "For formalities sake, please identify yourself before we continue."

Once that is done, the arcanist continues to address the watcher, "We have come to preserve the greatness of this archive, and that may well involve the destruction of the traitor. Our first goal of course is to prevent any further loss of the varied artifacts present here. We detected the removal of such things recently. Turning quickly to the ifrit sorceress he asks, "Solstice, can you easily burn these webs away without damaging the surrounding environs or should I summon elementals to help us?"

After a moments pause, his face changes, seemingly wrought with emotion.

"What was done to her...", comes his voice, shallow and unsure.

Then with mounting fury he finishes his thought, "...should NEVER, be done to a living creature, let alone one of reason. Despite what she is now, she must be freed."

Calming, he turns to the creature he understands to be called Saruna and asks, with an almost humble tone, "Would you please come with us, to save the history here, and see the skies outside this place once more?"

"In an age long past, under Sage's rule,

Then after the answer he asks,

"When you speak of being free
do you mean to die, eternally?"

and then once more, after the answer he asks,

"What is your name, so that we may know,

And finally, expecting he knows all the answers already, he says,

"No creature deserves such wrongful imprisonment
How may we free you from this terrible torment?"
