Sagacious Tien of the Even Flow's page

I'm thinking of adapting a Monk I had in a Mathpro game that never really got off the ground. This is the alias: crunch needs to be updated and background will be tweaked but I like this guy's concept. Let me know your thoughts. If nothing strikes you I can easily go another direction!

Tien signed where the headmaster indicated.
"I've been looking for a proper test of my skills for quite some time. I might be a bit rusty; this will be a good opportunity to find out!"

Tien couldn't help but crack a grin at Amarantha's audacity.
"And, I assume if we should fail to solve the puzzles or disarm the traps, the results would be quite harmful, yes?"

"I would know the nature of the challenges we face, the prize we compete for, and if there are other competitors."

"I'm unsure. Perhaps you know, Zeph?"

Tien shrugged.
"Likely all sorts of challenges. Traps, mundane and magical. Powerful enemies, most likely summoned undead or outsiders. At least, that's what I'd imagine."

Tien purses his mouth, thinking.
"If it is so dangerous then perhaps it would behoove use to attempt such a challenge together rather than as individuals?"

Tien quirked a brow at the new arrival.
"Death has been a temporary inconvenience, at best, for me, so I look forward to what will apparently be a lasting friendship."

Tien smiled back.
"My home is quite similar to my name. I hail from Tian Xia, far to the east. The Even Flow is not from whence I came, it is the name of my style of fighting. It has to do with the philosophy of water, you see."

Tien noted Amarantha, and his gaze lingered on her a bit longer than was polite. She was striking, and Tien felt a flush hit his cheeks as he realized that he was ogling her.

He looked at the ground for a moment, centering himself. It had been...probably years since he had enjoyed the company of a woman. Tien had no idea if his wife was even still alive, or if she had moved on. His searches in these past few months had been in vain. He had been dedicated to it, but, well, he was still a man, and Amarantha was probably the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen.

He shook his head, clearing his mind before speaking.

"My given name is Tien. During my life, I came to be known as Sagacious Tien of the Even Flow, though I don't think that means anything anymore. I have come here to make new allies and seek out information that is valuable to me, though it is private. I am pleased to meet you all."

Yep! Nothing to sneeze at there!

But yeah, +36 was like...lolwhut?

Pretty common error, I find. People see the "Bonus Ranks" section and miss the "Doesn't Stack" part.

Tien moves to where he was directed, taking stock of all the people that arrive.

Also, I hate to be that guy but as a player I'm pretty much a lawful neutral rules monkey. Erik, your perception should 23, not 36. Bonus skill ranks from your headband do not stack with ranks you already possess.

Tien quirks an eyebrow. This was certainly fascinating! At the least, perhaps the Academy would have some information to help him with his inquiries. Tien nods.
"That spell would be greatly appreciated. I will collect my equipment, and then we will be on our way."
Tien collected his gear, and after he was all set, the spell was cast. Upon arriving he attained directions from the woman, thanked her for her help, and made his way directly to the headmaster.

Ooof. I kicked my WoW habit a while ago. Haven't looked back!

Excited to be gaming with you all! Mathpro, tweaking a couple of things. Changed race to Human (dat bonus feat), and altered a couple of items a bit, but it's pretty much the same otherwise. Tien has a 10-minute background and a brief background in his profile. If you need more, let me know.

Personality wise, he's a little like Ip Man as portrayed by Donnie Yen. Pretty relaxed dude, on the side of the angels, philosophical and wise, but will absolutely wreck face when necessary.
