Backstory:
Rylla made her way in the best or terrible circumstances. She may have been born and raised on Mos Eisley, but she was quick, smart, and knew holding a blaster said more than it actually having ammo inside. It was under these conditions that she was eventually scouted to join a mercenary crew which hired itself out to the criminal scum of the dirty settlement.
She'd look back on those times fondly. Mornings consisted of eating, drinking, and palying cards. The afternoon was pretty much the same, but with more of a chance for something exciting happening. She reveled in freedom having a crew gave her, but always made it a point to show she could pull her weight.
Then the crackdown came, and Rylla found herself arrested by the forces of the Empire. Apparently one of the crew was a mole, and one of their clients had gone a tad too far when intercepting the Empire's supply chains. It was here that Lentin gave Rylla a choice. She could be shipped to work at one of the prison facilities doing back-breaking labor until she either died or her sentence ended, or she could put her skills to use for the Empire.
Of course she chose the option that didn't have her leaving a prison after she was 70.
So she was put into a unit and trained. It was grueling, but her speed and smarts played to her advantage. She could be a roaming cannon, dishing out damage to key points in the battle and moving on before the enemy knew what hit them.
Her Unit, nicknamed Riker, was sent for the less savory missions, but fortunately ones that fit right in her toolkit. It was a boon if they succeeded, but if they failed the Empire could brush it under the radar. It was a new kind of freedom, one with shiny ships and license to do whatever it took to get the job done.
These days, there's not many folks left from Unit Riker. Some died, some were 'dealt' with when they got too troublesome, and others chose to live the rest of their lives on quieter lives as solo plants and informants.
But Rylla Cyn isn't ready to give up the life quite yet. She's ready for reassignment.
