1 person marked this as a favorite.

Deft Maneuvers helps with that tanglevine power and lets her take Greater Trip which means the tanglevine let’s everybody else take AoOs if they’re next to the target when it goes down.

I decided to give Ryarg the betrayed drawback (Roll twice for Sense Motive to get a hunch, take worse result) and pick up Heedful Readiness (1/day add Wis to initiative)

Oh cool. I’ll put it back then.

Ryarg has 94 points so if I understand correctly, you need me to lower things by 2, 3 if I also want to boost something? Unfortunately, the only thing I could lower is his 11 Charisma, which is what he needs for his fey magic feat.

Originally, with a standard 20 point but, I had dumped his Charisna down to five. Part of his charm was that his soused bears had a better personality than he did! But now I like the idea of the warm, kind, gentle Ryarg (“Gentle Ben”), so I believe I will simply cut his Dex by 2 and leave it at that.

Abyssal isn't one of the standard dwarven bonus language options, but given the location, I took a stab that it would be okay (along with Hallit). If you'd prefer I burn a couple points in Linguistics, I can swing it.

Guess it's 5 for both of them.

Nazard's submission: Ryarg Gravemaker, dwarven Bear Shaman Druid (and possibly also World Walker haven't decided yet) who will go onto the Green Faith Acolyte prestige class. He will follow the Hierophant path of course.

Ryarg focuses on summoning bears and later wild shape into bears, with a bit of blasting in reserve. His 3 16s and a 17 allow for some buff physical stats for getting into the fray.

An extensive backstory can be found in his profile, but the short version is: born on the day the Worldwound opened, his people were forced to flee and keep fleeing as demons expanded outwards, eventually falling in with some druids. Neither party liked each other but mutual protection and all that. Ryarg fell in love with nature worship and his people kicked him out for wanting to be an elf (their words, not his). Still, he was happy until the Third Crusade came along and tried to burn him at the stake. Some bears saved him and he fled, bonded a bear, and established himself a reputable business crafting fine fruit and berry wines, which he's in Kerendas delivering for Armasse. Oh, and his animal companion, the grand sire of his original bear companion, is a hopeless drunk if Ryarg forgets to lock up the liquor.

His flaw is two-fold: a vicious temper whenever confronted with anti-druidic bigotry and a need to prepare his spells in a combination of underground and natural wilderness environments (or a nice cave in the woods does double duty).

Ryarg would have connections with lots of those people.

Aubrin because he's a wine maker. Vane because Ryarg also has healing skill and magic. Kining because Ryarg has to sell his wines. Noelan because Ryarg worships nature. Jet because she would probably stock some of his fruit wines.

I put Ryarg's background skills as Handle Animal and Profession-Vintner, though if you have others that make more sense to you, let me know.

Drawbacks allowed?

Submitting Ryarg Gravemaker, dwarven bear shaman druid. I had made him for a high-level one shot (and now I just realized that you were the one who ran that one-shot!!) and always wished I could have played him from the beginning. His 5 Charisma is there for the fun of it, rather than just a dump stat, as I enjoy playing up the fact that his animal companion (a bear with a slight drinking problem) has a stronger will and personality than he does. They are a comedic team, with Ryarg as the straight man.

He's a vintner living in Phaendar for quite awhile, building his winery's brand, keeping to himself. His background can be found in his profile. I expect to continue advancing him as a single-class druid focusing on wild shape and summoning of various bears.

I am in Atlantic Time Zone and check the threads throughout the day from my phone, though only tend to post when I have something to contribute. I've been on the boards for quite awhile now, including running games at various times.

Some sample posts below:
Ryarg and Bern clashing wills over a bottle of cognac
Emotional scene involving that PCs dead sister
Grief-stricken paladin putting some smack down on a mouthy guardsman

This is my bear shaman character. I would obviously lower him to 9th level.

Raulzig can do some lantern archons with Summon Monster VI. Maybe together with Lefty we can even get them to fuse. But what did you have in mind for them?

Just that the light rays would probably be effective against the shadowy arms is all.

Ryarg and Bern have nothing currently available to combat shadowy arms that wither your strength at a touch. Since they don't seem to be coming at them at the moment, he's content to wait for the spell slingers to do their thing.

He does growl slightly, however, when the fireball seems to have no effect.

This would be a great time to spam 1d4+2 lantern archons, but alas, they're only on the summon monster list.

Using a claw, Ryarg scratches "Food" in the ice and begins looking for an easy way up for two bears.

17-level wealth, and you'd think I'd have thought about some flight for the bear!

Ryarg flares his nostrils at the "proper wizard" comment, then turns his nose to the ground.

Survival: 1d20 + 30 ⇒ (2) + 30 = 32

Well, he has a heal spell if that's better, but heal is better used during battle for emergencies.

This will take a lot of charges.

Also, he can cast spells while a bear, but not use wands, so Lefty will need to do the honours.

Speaking of resources, Ryarg needs some happy stick. He's down to 78.

The heavily-injured massive bear makes his way over to the possessor of the cure light wounds wands and nudges him with a paw.

Ryarg reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Bern reflex: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29

Bern reflex saves:1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17
1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25

No damage for Bern (because of that haste, too!).

Are folks remembering haste? +1 to Reflex saves and attack rolls.

I assume with a huge sized bear and an invisible elf, there isn't room for Bern to get his swipes in?

Reflex 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Reflex 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19

Ryarg tears into one of the humanoids.

Fire storm is a 7th level Druid spell from the core Rulebook.
fire storm

Okay.
Spell Penetration: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25

Boo

Ryarg's firestorm: 17d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2, 3, 3, 6, 5, 3, 3, 3, 2, 5, 1, 4, 6, 6, 3) = 66 Reflex DC 25

Not sure how many Spell Penetration rolls to make

Ryarg makes a grunting noise. In the snow/ice of the floor, he writes, "Me fill room with fire first. Then we go in."

Ryarg has enough trouble getting Bern to do what he wants when he's visibly looming over him, so invisible might not be the best thing.

Healing: 10d8 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 5, 7, 1, 8, 1, 3, 7) = 43 takes 9 charges

Healing Bern: 10d8 ⇒ (4, 3, 5, 7, 3, 1, 1, 5, 8, 6) = 43 takes exactly 3 charges

Ryarg sniffs the charred remains to see if any warmth remains in them.

Unless Krokod can get through that spell resistance on Ruarg's wounds, he'll be going down this round.

What the bleep? I lose my dot after three days now? Sorry to hold things up. Obviously I need to check all my games daily regardless of dot.

Okay, my apologies again. It turns out that Bern is just large when subjected to animal growth, not huge, so he does only have a 5-foot reach, meaning he was scared off by the aura, then negated by the greater heroism spell. This means Bern comes back to the devil with only the bite attack, but at a +4 bonus from the spell.

Also, it looks like Ryarg is taking one round of bleed damage before Krokod's healing spell takes effect.

Sorry about that. Huge-sized quadrupeds have a ten foot reach. I'll get that added into my profile next time I'm on the computer instead of my phone.

Ryarg's claw claw bite:
1d20 + 24 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 24 + 2 + 3 = 43; damage: 1d8 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18 plus grab 1d20 + 23 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 23 + 2 + 3 = 37
1d20 + 24 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 24 + 2 + 3 = 34; damage: 1d8 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17 plus grab 1d20 + 23 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 23 + 2 + 3 = 40
1d20 + 24 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 24 + 2 + 3 = 47; damage: 2d6 + 14 ⇒ (2, 3) + 14 = 19

(do grapple attempts benefit from flanking bonus? If not, ignore the extra +5. Also, that spell gives an additional +3 for flanking, or makes the flanking bonus +3? Also, does Ryarg's +5 AoMF mean his attacks count as at least silver?)

Bern's claw claw bite:
1d20 + 20 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 20 + 2 + 3 = 37; damage 2d8 + 21 ⇒ (4, 1) + 21 = 26
1d20 + 20 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 20 + 2 + 3 = 33; damage 2d8 + 21 ⇒ (5, 7) + 21 = 33
1d20 + 20 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 20 + 2 + 3 = 35; damage 4d6 + 21 ⇒ (1, 2, 6, 2) + 21 = 32

If the fear aura is just five feet, both Ryarg and Bern are huge, and wouldn't be getting that close.

Reflex 1: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Reflex 2: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Bern Reflex 1: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15
Been Reflex 2: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26

They both take some minor scorching, enough to basically piss both of them off. They move in in a flanking pattern. Ryarg is huge with a move rate of 30 and Bern is huge with a movement rate of 50, so I'm assuming they can find a flank if they approach on opposite sides.

Ryarg claw: 1d20 + 24 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 24 + 2 = 32
Damage: 1d8 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22 + grab
Grapple check: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (14) + 23 = 37

Bern bite: 1d20 + 20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 20 + 2 = 31
Damage: 4d6 + 21 ⇒ (4, 4, 5, 2) + 21 = 36

Ryarg is already on his way with Bern.

Bear-Ryarg growls an agreement, and he and Bern follow, taking point (behind the invisible folk).

Okay, taking ten then! :)

If Bern can't do it, Ryarg will shift into bear form and use his +30 Survival bonus instead.

Gotta love it when the Druid who hates animals makes a better animal companion than his own pet.

Air Ryarg returns to normal Ryarg form, and bends down to follow the track.

He auto passes the DC, and silently points everything in the spoiler out to folks. He has Bern sniff the footprint to track it by scent.

Survival: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 The DC is 10 + 2 per hour of the trail's age.
Can he take 20 to find it?

Better off using slams only then.

Ryarg could use it when enlarged into a large humanoid creature like an earth elemental. How does it work to combine natural and manufactured attacks like that? Anyone know?

My dot is gone on this thread. Just happened to see the new post. Time to PM everybody again so they know we're still going.

Ryarg drifts over to examine this creature, and put it down.

Coup de grace damage: 4d6 + 30 ⇒ (2, 4, 1, 2) + 30 = 39

Getting coup de grace'd by a bit of air has to be humiliating.

AoO: 1d20 + 25 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 25 + 1 = 39
damage: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (5, 1) + 15 = 21

Ryarg then advanced on the creature, commanding Bern to do likewise. Not sure how many attacks we get, do I'll just roll them all.

Slam 1:1d20 + 25 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 25 + 1 = 33
damage: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (1, 4) + 15 = 20
Slam 2: 1d20 + 25 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 25 + 1 = 41
damage: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (6, 4) + 15 = 25
Hasted slam: 1d20 + 25 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 25 + 1 = 40
damage: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (1, 1) + 15 = 17

Bern power attacks:
Bite: 1d20 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 20 + 1 = 24
Damage: 4d6 + 21 ⇒ (2, 6, 6, 4) + 21 = 39
Claw 1: 1d20 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 20 + 1 = 25
Damage: 2d8 + 21 ⇒ (7, 2) + 21 = 30
Claw 2: 1d20 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 20 + 1 = 33
Damage: 2d8 + 21 ⇒ (3, 6) + 21 = 30
Haste bite: 1d20 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 20 + 1 = 38
Damage: 4d6 + 21 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 4) + 21 = 35

Ryarg's attacks hit as +5 weapons, Bern's as +2, if that matters.

In that case, he wouldn't bother with the whirlwind, and just moves up so he can slam the bugger.

Slam 1: 1d20 + 25 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 25 + 1 = 37; damage: 2d8 + 15 ⇒ (8, 6) + 15 = 29
Slam 2: 1d20 + 25 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 25 + 1 = 32; damage: 2d8 + 15 ⇒ (1, 1) + 15 = 17
Slam 3: 1d20 + 25 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 25 + 1 = 43; damage: 2d8 + 15 ⇒ (2, 2) + 15 = 19

This whole whirlwind thing could get really annoying fast, in that Ryarg can single-handedly mop the floor with any number of low Reflex save monsters leaving the rest of the group with nothing to do. Everybody can feel free to tell me to shove the whirlwind routine at any time - I won't take offence.

Is Ryarg going to be able to pick this guy up or is he too big?

If Ryarg thinks he'll fit, he tries to pick him up. Reflex DC 23.
He'll then carry him up to the roof of this cavern and drop him somewhere in the open so everybody can have at him.

Ryarg auto passes.
Bern: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19

I'm not certain what type of action taking whirlwind form is. If it's move or up, that's what he does, otherwise he takes that form and charges the giant (or moves towards him if charging can't happen. Either way, he calls out, "Bern! Guard Lefty!"

Air-Ryarg follows Lefty to the fountain, growl-breathing at Bern not to drink any. You could swear that the bear rolls his eyes at him.
