Rurik ignores the small talk and nods to Aengus.

"See you soon brother. We'll send word when we arrive in a month."

His expression isn't discernible beneath his helm.

Soon, Grombar and Rurik are out of sight.

Barakor of Gorm Gulthyn (AC 22 (23vsRanged))

Rurik scowls a bit and nervously adjusts his already adjusted armor and fidgets with his helmet before putting it on.

"I don't like us all being...all over the place. Jorlitharr is always off someplace but the rest of us..."

Erazire responds before Bill arrives.

Erazire lets out a deep breath before sharing. "Before joining the guild, my tribe... we were attacked in the middle of the night by thesssse purple dragonborn. Their breath was... sssstrange, the color of amethyssst, and caused a rotting wherever it touched." He shows them his scars. He returns when he hears Bill arrive.

"Hmmm. I believe a staff topped with an amethyst was confiscated along with another one of those books from Mallark and the Mind Flayer a few weeks ago. It would seem your tribe was targeted by followers of these evil entities."

Rurik stares knowingly.

Rurik spends the morning burying the dead using his pick to help open the hard packed ground and his shield to shovel snow. Afterwards he gives a small prayer and sprinkles some holy water on the ground. He takes a sip of the holy water before going inside and giving himself a washcloth bath with a basin he found in the kitchen. Afterwards he combs out his beard and hair, braiding each one a tight simple braid before starting to put his armor back on. Afterwards he goes through his pack finding a short string of simmer sausages and a cheese wheel cuts them up and eats a few leaving the rest for others.

They tried to kill me.

Vadym takes out his book of blank pages again and opens it toward Rurik. He touches the corner.

These are memories. Look.

As he touches the page it looks as though some of the whiteness of the paper lifts off the page revealing marks made with charcoal, eventually revealing a horrific scene. Six men, each chained to a section of a hexagonal wall. Each man has some sort of tentacled creature wrapped around his throat. The creatures limbs inserted into eyes, ears, noses, mouths...

In the middle of the room is a pedestal holding a skull surrounded by an arrangement of candles.

Vadym points to one of the men.

That's me. I survived. They did not. I heard it's thoughts. And now I know. And now I hunt.

His eyes turn different colors as he speaks and his skin turns frosty again, but he slowly turns back to normal as he snaps the book shut and stows it away.

"Forgive me. You have to admit... I mean quite a coincidence..."

He pauses.

"Look. I don't sense evil in you. And that thing.." he points to the cut apart book. "is my first contact with an extraplanar evil."

Rurik stares at the book. With sleepy hanging eyes.

Florr accepts the stew with gratitude, putting down the book that Vadym offered her. She still tries to read the front and title page.

"Rurik, do you know what this spell Revify does?"

She reads the inky message on the wall. "Eighty nine?" she says quietly, trailing off. "Do you guys think we should try reading what is on page 89?" She is hesitant to touch it.

Rurik dabs his toast in the spilled stew on the hearth.

"Revify is a spell that if cast quickly will bring someone, or something, back from the brink of death.

Barakor of Gorm Gulthyn (AC 22 (23vsRanged))

There looks to be just enough stew for 3 hearty bowls left. Rurik goes into the kitchen and finds a few clay bowls that look like they'd been set aside as someone of the only unbroken dishes. He wipes them out and fills the bowls bringing one to each of you. He cuts some bread and toasts it on the coals.

He looks to Vadym. "We can offer coin. We also have some fresh fruit. For the stew."

He takes off his pack. He hesitates a bit before reaching inside. He withdraws a thick wooden ring. It looks to be whittled into a woodland scene with simple rudimentary deer, wolves, bears, birds and snakes. There's still some bark left on it. The wand is stark white birch. It's carved into the shape of leaves towards the very tip, with touches of green stone. There's also a vial of strange liquid and a brush, like a paintbrush.

These are both magical. With time you're able to ascertain that properties of the ring LINK, the wand has 3 charges left of a spell: "Revify".

the Tome is unmoving and cut in twain. On the wall is a spray of thick, greasy ink. It seems to be moving about the wall on it's own. Trickling like a stream, but not following gravity. It's drawn something.

Rurik shakes his hand at the offer.
