ok here we go a very loose background and stats

Ridolfo Da Varano the 4th son of a minor noble use to being a dandy. best friend OD'd on shiver and is lying in coma in the cleric temple, that sobered him up to whats going on and now he wants to do something about it. generally conceals his identity as to not get his investigation to lead back to his family.(one brother is ranking in the guard and another is in the priesthood)

One of the ideas i had was to take the Sword cane and combine it with a umbrella i was wondering if it would work and would it be more concealable? because any button on it would appear to be for the umbrella rather than for the sword. thoughts and or comments on either the character or the Sword umbrella idea.

thinking about making a human swashbuckler. after reading the players guide to the campaign i think it would be a perfect character for the urban environment in the guide. possibly a son or daughter of a minor noble would fit in with the idea i have for their reason to hate that guy.

i plan on fleshing out the character once created, that's usually not the problem. (i have been playing a gnome Archivist bard in rise of the runlords he's a professor wears a suit over his leather armor w/leather elbows of course. a pipe, and needs coffee to function in the morning. he gives lectures about the creatures we'r fighting that makes some of the group want to knock him out.) but iv never played in society only with friends.

i am going to joining pathfinder society and am looking to make several character for society. Each one for a different purpose or role. this is my first time playing in society so builds would be appreciated. here are some of the ideas.

Tank: sword and board Paladin
Striker: Inquisitor, warpriest or Brawler
Utility: bard or rouge
Spellslinger: Mage (illusion or buff/debuff based)

I am debating on what one to use.

They say you need a certain feat to do a full attack with a crossbow (don't remember what one) would you need that for a repeating crossbow?

Also you can only shoot a heavy crossbow once every other round unless you take rapid reload but you can reset a Repeating crossbow as a free action.

Also can you take rapid reload to reload the magazine to the repeating crossbow? or use the spell abundant ammunition on the magazine?

So is it better to take a regular crossbow and take that feat or use the feat to use a repeating crossbow?

i am not the primary ranged fighter (that's a gunslinger). i am in fact the bard and i have low str that is why i am going with a crossbow, it can do more damage than i could with a bow.

What do you guys think about the Archivist bard.
You loose inspire courage. but Naturalist give you a insight bonus on ac and atk rolls and gives you saving throws against exceptional, supernatural and spell like abilities. it says against Creatures but would that include standard races? (dwarf, elf, half-orc)
but it other abilites are based on Facinate that acording to the book can not be done in combat. and to get thoes you loose inspire greatness and mass sugesstion.
it also allows you do disable magic traps and you get lore master and jack of all trades earlier.
(the idea of basicly a collage professor going with a band of cutthroats is funny)
And again thanks for the help

I like the ideas and greatly appreciate them.
would a dip into fighter be wort it (to speed up ranged ability).
And is there any other classes other than bard of any archetype that would help this group i know were low on healers.
Or is strait up bard still my best choice.
All your advice has given me much food for thought on how i want to do this so keep it coming.

I am looking to help out the team and have the ability to find and disable traps.
would inquisitor with that vagabond child be another alternative since you can get the spell find traps and there teamwork feats would help the team. bane ability would help increase the damage.
tho not a utilitarian as the bard it could be useful. just thinking out loud so comments appreciated.

thanks for the help Blueluck. see the problem is if the rouge is going tengu swordsmaster (I am Farley sure he is)he doesn't get trap sense. and he doesn't want to be the primary trap finder. so the fact that i can buff via spells and find traps is why i was thinking archaeologist.

Wiggz i would love to see your build for him any help would be appreciated. also we are doing this at a local Comic and games store so we may or may not have that many people 4 or 5 always show up.

Please continue to give advice i have plenty of time to think it over we wont start playing for almost a month.

Ok i started a thread earlier about ranged rouges. my decision was not to do one at the end.

Any way the PC we have in the group are
A human barbarian wielding a great sword
A human Magus going two weapon wielder
A gnome Druid going with pet
A ranged class He's thinking of gunslinger or Archer
A monk unknown what race or way hes going
A rouge probably going tengu swords master to assissian so not a trap finder

I was thinking Archelogist bard that primarily ranged to help with our one ranged fighter (unfortunately Druid is going to be healer). I am looking for help in how to build this guy and what if any other classes i should take (Fighter, Ranger, Inquisitor?)
I was thinking of being a gnome. the stats i rolled are 13,13,15,14,15,12.
probably going to use crossbow (Or ma-by repeating crossbow?).

I don't really have a concept for this character i just want something useful to the group. Since most of them are not going have many skills,or skills to find traps, so my first thought was the skill heavy rogue. And since we had so much melee i figured range would also be more useful.

Re reading the Archaeologist Bard that looks like a good option if i wanted sneak attack i could dip into rogue. plus you get whip proficiency {Indiana Jones anyone). and what are your thoughts on Cross classing with gunslinger?

but i am still leaving all my options open, all advice and suggestions appreciated
thanks again

me and some friends will be playing the Rise of the Runelord adventure path and i wish to be the rogue.

other members of the group as far as i know

half-Orc fighter or barbarian
human magus
gnome druid
Monk unknown what race(he was thinking half-orc)
ranger or ranged fighter

due to the fact that we have 3 melee fighters i thought i would be more useful in ranged combat.

I am allowed to play any race including those in the advanced race guide (I was thinking Ratfolk or vishkanyas but am not set on them) . i would also like to keep trap-finding and trap sense.

Any help and or advice would be greatly appreciated.
thank you.
