About Rossby Num

Background Summary

Gr'kinum was a gillman fighter slaughtered by Pathfinders who indiscriminately slaughtered. He was reincarnated as a human and sent to the Pathfinder Society to show Pathfinders a better way to adventure.

Personality:
Now known as Rossby, he is very focused on his mission and is dismissive of what he considers frivolity. He deals nonlethal damage whenever possible in combat.

Casting: Anderson Cooper (CNN anchor)

Theme Song: Green Day, "21 Guns"

Background Narrative:
Gr'kinum stood resolute as the sounds of metal on metal resounded through the cavern.

"Defenders of Azlant!" his lieutenant shouted, "It is our duty, our sacred duty, to defend this stronghold! The air breathers come to kill - not just to end our lives, but to end our heritage as the true heirs of Azlant. If we fall, we fall defending an empire that will last forever!"

Gr'kinum lowered his pike and charged into the corridor, where those that call themselves Pathfinders were waiting to murder him. And they did.

When he woke, his lungs burned with air. His nostrils were cracked and dried, and he jolted upright, gasping. Something was wrong. Feeling his neck, he realized his gills were gone. Gr'kinum looked down at his body - his dry skin, covered with ridiculous hair.

"What ... what have you done to me?" Gr'kinum cried.

A swirling mist coalesced in front of him, a vague face stared at him with purple eyes. "We've chosen you," the misty face explained. "Someone needs to stop these murderers. The usurpers of Azlanti tradition won't listen to us. They call us gillmen; they call us Low Azlanti; they plunder our temples and defile our traditions. They do this to every race, and they won't listen to anyone except other air breathers. You must be Gr'kinum no more, instead, you are Rossby. There are those within the Pathfinder Society that are worth saving - you must find them and empower them to stop the wanton slaughter of our people."

Boons:

All Aboard the Voracious!: Now that you’ve defeated the legendary pirate Sempet Sevenfingers, his ship, the Voracious, is in need of a new captain. For now, the ship is in the Pathfinder Society’s possession, but you could make it yours by spending 8 Prestige Points (or less, if you’ve proved yourself in the Gloomspires before). Reduce the cost by 2 Prestige points for each of the following Pathfinder Society scenarios for which this character has earned a Chronicle Sheet: #6-06: Hall of the Flesh Eaters, #7-19: The Labyrinth of Hungry Ghosts, and #8-15: Hrethnar’s Throne. If you become captain of the Voracious, you can use it whenever you require passage at sea. Additionally, you gain a +2 circumstance bonus on Profession (sailor) checks, and Profession (sailor) becomes a class skill for you. You can use Profession (sailor) to make Day Job rolls. You can extract several rubies from the vessel’s engine to use if you run into trouble when traveling on a faraway plane. You can check a box that precedes this boon to use one of these rubies to plane shift to the Material Plane—a process that takes 1 minute—with a caster level equal to your character level. Unlock at Level 7.

[ ] [ ] [ ] Cleaning House: You’ve removed Phlegos Dulm from the Pathfinder Society, forcing the cruel half-orc to flee from Katapesh. While the Kotargo Lodge was seized by Phlegos’s many creditors, Wulessa Yuul reclaimed as many of the lodge’s assets as she could, setting aside a small trove for you in case of emergencies. Once per adventure you can spend 1 minute and check a box next to this boon to gain a free potion of cure light wounds. If you are 7th level or higher when you check a box, you instead gain a potion of cure serious wounds.

Debt to Corvius (Legacy): You have promised a favor to the despicable genie binder Corvius Vayn. What this favor might entail you can’t guess, but anyone who can command an efreeti is likely to have ways to ensure their debts do not remain outstanding. Keep this Chronicle sheet as it may affect the ongoing story in the new edition of the Pathfinder Society organized play campaign. Unlock at Level 5.

Debt to the Scarred Sage: As a representative of the Jeweled Sages, you promised that Grandmaster Torch would be welcome to participate in confronting any threat to the organization. Whether this is ultimately to your benefit or not remains to be seen.

Efreeti Unchained (Legacy): You unleashed an enslaved efreeti from his captor. What might this portend for the Pathfinder Society and its members? Keep this Chronicle sheet as it may affect the ongoing story in the new edition of the Pathfinder Society organized play campaign. Unlock at Level 5.

[ ] Explore, Report, Cooperate: As a free or immediate action, you may consider whether a particular action you name would help realize the goals of the Pathfinder Society. The GM then informs you whether the action's impact would be positive, negative, or negligible.

Friend of Janira Gavix: She helps you perform research, granting you a +1 bonus on Knowledge checks attempted while you are in the Grand Lodge.

In Service to Corruption: You chose to sacrifice your dignity to help further the Society’s goals. While your brief period of servitude to Corvius Vayn was distasteful, you were able to secure valuable information to further the Society’s goals, and contacts in Qadira’s dark markets. You may check a box next to this boon to gain a +2 competence bonus on Diplomacy checks made to gather information or Sense Motive checks. Alternatively, you may check a box to gain a 10% discount on one item whose total value is not greater than your class level × 1,000; this discount does not stack with discounts from any other source, and items gained in this way cannot be sold for more than the cost of their original purchase. Unlock at Level 5.

Prospective Poisoner: You earned the respect of Pemak, a member of the Daggermark's Poisoner Guild. She welcomes you to join the Poisoner's Guild, or to suggest candidates to join the organization. All of your characters gain access to the Daggermark Poisoner Prestige Class.

[X] Timinic's Trinkets: He has procured some useful tools for prospective recruits, and has offered these items to you as well. You can purchase any wondrous item from the Core Rulebook worth 250 gp or less, a pair of sleeves of many garments or a traveler's any tool, for 1 Prestige Point.

[X] Contraband Dividends: You ensured that a valuable shipment of contraband antiquities were able to enter Absalom through the sewers without kobolds causing any problems. As a result, you receive a single item of no more than 150 gp from among the non-relic bits of the cargo. You must select this item now and reflect its purchase on this Chronicle sheet.

Koboldfriend: You negotiated a truce between the Pathfinder Society and Yiddlepode of the Sewer Dragon tribe. As part of the bargain, she gave you a token of kobold. When worn about your neck (occupying the neck magic item slot), the token grants you a +2 bonus on all Diplomacy checks with humanoids of the reptilian subtype.

[ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] Well-Connected: You’ve made a friend who wields substantial clout not just in Katapesh but throughout the Inner Sea region. Once per adventure before attempting an Appraise, Disable Device, Knowledge (local), Perception, Profession, or Stealth check, you can check a box next to this boon to add 1d6+1 to the roll, representing the benefits of the information filtered to you by Yigrig Moneymaker’s extensive underground network.
