I'll watch some videos to see what it's about...

Roshan backs out of the stacks and returns to her team. She looks as if she's seen death's gate. "We should leave now. -or, I suppose the books will give us some level of cover. We will have to be very careful leaving to make sure she does not see us."

Sarah looks as though she smells something foul. "Whatever has you so shaken, Rhistel?"

Roshan takes a step back, straightens, and pulls her tabard down, adjusting her belt. "Nothing. An old acquaintance is here, and I- we do not have time for me to smooth things over."

Cassy looks up from a thin volume on abjuration, her leg shaking. "What could it hurt?"

"'Smooth things out' is a phrase used here to mean parley over crossed blades. The Green Vance specialize in the greatblade. Their techniques are slow, but leathal, and they have the strongest evocation rites. Where is Ron? We need to leave."

"If there is space, please bring them. Their input may be invaluable. We are an entourage of peers from many disparate sides of these events... " Roshan pauses before adding, rather sheepishly, "and I have a Yellow Vance's academic acumen. It is more likely that I might help them in this."

"Kaur." Roshan finishes, brusquely. "We hail from the Duchy of Eloin where a seal holding back a horde of Aboleths is under seige as we speak. We have come here for texts pertaining to the containment or destruction of these creatures before they are released upon this land." The templar pauses and looks back to her companions. "At least, that is our objective as I understood it."

Roshan looks up from a handful of skewers. "The obelisk?"

Golnaz of the Green Vance? Failed spout lore about this place I think? Roshan burned down a library of hers. Wields a tree saw, wears a sick hat with a veil, could probably murder one or two of us before we could kill her and her initiates. Combat best avoided Golnaz?

Roshan turns to Ron. "We're here for books. Should we find Golnaz first, or hope against firm odds that this is one of the days she isn't in whatever library we're here to search?"

Conceivably great grandpa. The Lord of Iron might even have a 'mature' child with a baby. Depends on how important marriage alliances and heirs are here.

"Yes, those songs which paint our actions in pastels are likely sung of Belym." Roshan smiles and occupies herself with some street food.

Sarah looks from Roshan to Belym, eyes narrowed.

"Are you scared of a few humans now? This Iron Lord of Boqueq and a lone member of the Green Vance don't quite measure up to a cadre of cambion."

As soon as she is through the portal, Roshan looks out for Cassie and Sarah, who have immediately wandered off in different directions.

Sarah picked up the ball and is trying to coax the children out to take it back.

Cassie is talking to a food vendor.

"Leave the children be. We just got here." Roshan beckons for Sarah to join Cassie at the food stall.

Torn leg muscle, might be a little loopy till the end of the week.

There were a thousand ways this conversation was supposed to go, but those were rehearsed before Roshan had failed, again, to do things the right way. Hearing that name again sends a chill up her spine, and she grips the pommel of her longsword to keep from touching the scar on the back of her neck. "You yet live, and will have my protection as far as my merits will extend it. You are also in the coveted lands, and while you trek with me, you will enjoy those luxuries I can afford you. This is Cassandra, former supplicant of the black throne, and my ward under Hebron's grace. I... cannot kill you. I also cannot suffer you to subjugate any more nations, nor consort with ancient terrestrial powers. I will stop you. You will have to find a new way to live, or struggle against my strength as long as I live, and we have both proven exceptionally hard to kill." Roshan squares her shoulders, and meets her mother's gaze for the second time. "What say you?"

I'm feeling waited on, which makes me want to answer no, but I do want to play out releasing the cuffs, if only to establish Sarah/Seprahim's attitude now that she's been displaced from her position of power... I'll make a note on my sheet that there's going to be a very bad Outstanding Warrants roll when we return... what with all the nobles witches and transmuters Roshan has left broken and dying. (pauses, imagining Roshan going to jail and playing Cassandra the Warlock in a pact with the Orphan Mother)

Roshan returns to the ward, chewing her cheek. She had delivered the letter, technically, but she was unsure she could bring herself to bind Isemlael, nor evince him of the importance of the task. His suffering would be done, and that was a Good thing with a capitol G, but Roshan's discipline had caved to old habits, and she was left feeling numb again.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking.

"It's not like he still needs all of his fingers, being retired."

Roshan's reflection in the small pool of blood remains plaintive.

"The two inside the capitol then. There's no time to hunt them all down."

Roshan waits for a response that doesn't come, looking at the recovered book of Hebron.

"This is why I never scored well in enchantment..."

Roshan will visit the two women who live in the capitol, and if they don't come to the door she'll chain the transmuter to the wall and ask around about the woman and her son.

That poor, poor Transmuter... Do we slip into another torture fantasy, then there's no record scratch, and Roshan realizes she just blacked out? I think even if she did manage to deliver the letter, she's done something to destroy any moral grounds she hoped to stand on by making this collar.

I think that's where this goes, if that sounds right. She delivers the letter, but foregoes the enchantment. If Seprahim slips away later on, we'll just have to face her again...

Oh, what can we figure out about either of those two names, starting from the last time there was a Duke... With a 5?

Rather than trying to charm the first cleric she encounters, Roshan patiently...

Nope, no patience. We might be fleeing murder charges... I dunno.

Was there anyone Roshan had to work through during the audit? Someone who might be able to track down the baby/grown man born to the sender and recipient. There's only so much of this she has the patience for before asking someone Duchess-adjacent about the transmuter.

Before her standoff with the would-be God, Roshan would have taken this as a sign to track down this 'duke's transmuter' as plan A.

Today, she decides to see if the local tax collectors keep census records first. Talking patiently with bureaucrats and sifting through ledgers is the purest and quickest way to work up a righteous fervor.

Roshan goes to the dungeons where the circle was written and looks for evidence of the spirit's identity.

What here is useful or valuable to me?

While the others go off to tend their own business, Roshan returns to the menders to see if anything can be done with the cursed cuffs.

INT?: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (5, 6) + 0 = 11
Could it be reconfigured into a wireless,Cassy-controlled shock collar? Still a volatile ally, but less so than Sarah unfettered? (Assuming they're both there and alive) What are our thoughts here? Fetch quest?

Roshan needs to check on Cassy and Sarah.

It wouldn't be impossible for Roshan to send word to the Templars, just personally inconvenient. If we can get to Bocucumber quickly, we'll see Gulnaz anyway. They would be a kind of people to send for when defending a place from da evils, but they would come with... other complications, especially for the Duchy. Not Point-level community cleansing, but... lots of tough love.

Roshan nods. "It is easier, I think, for most to look at good and evil as two faces of a coin, seperate and distinct. I think we should start, however, with what I remember about the place folk call Hell, and what I have been taught as a Templar. When I was very young, I murdered my father, and this invited the Orphan Mother to my door. Her influence, and that of those like her can reshape an impressionable human child into a creature like those you killed." She stops, and an inscrutable cascade of emotions crosses her face. "I don't blame you for that. We are... dangerous in large numbers. I am fairly certain imps are not meant to live for very long in any case. I have never seen one my size, but I have not been under her influence in a very long time." Roshan's hand goes to a scar at the back of her neck.

"The demons I knew were petty, moody, and spiteful. They depend heavily on a social heirarchy, and I feel like their backstabbing nature is maybe more to do with overcrowding. They openly discuss who they hope to murder to make for themselves a higher position. Danyal called them Transgressors, which I used to think meant they did something wrong, like they broke the rules, but looking at it now, I think it's just because they came here from another plane. This one is exceptional, I think. Full of life. Hell is exceptional too. There are only so many ways in or out, but the Transgressors are clearly clever constructors of portals. I do not think it is a coincident that the aboleths and demons were cooperating here. What have you been told about them? Our teachings do not have a solid record of the events leading up to the demons' banishment. What shape does Elven history choose to take, if they have hidden this?"

Roshan is kneeling when Conwall approaches. "Yes... Where would you want to start? That I am a demon-touched imp? Coming to terms with an evil past? Comparing notes on lost histories? What demons are actually like? Danyal's hunting of cambions? Is that... Should I not use that word? I've wanted to talk to you since we spoke to... Sarah, but I don't know what would be the least sensitive topic. I have not had an opportunity to talk about my past with someone who might be sympathetic to its... turns. Generally when the..." Roshan waves a hand over her face. "-fades there is less talking and more bloodshed... As I have said, I am no goodly person."

"That... is probably a firmer point than I had. Golnaz would not kill us all..." Roshan nods solemnly.

Golnaz Kaur of the Green Vance tutored Roshan on the basic tenants of Hebron's word while also teaching her reading, writing, and arithmetic. They had a fairly standard nun/student relationship until Roshan attempted to play a 'prank' on Golnaz by setting a fire in her library. Golnaz sent Roshan away (and not without threatening to send the then-teenage reformed imp to Hebron's side) forcing Danyal to abandon a high profile case in Boqeuq.

Search is working okay for me. It's a new word.

Uncomfortable with her thoughts on Boqeuq, Roshan turns to Conwall. "You feel like looking up your God's skirts? I'm not thrilled by our alternative..."

We learned we should plan for the likelihood of an aboleth invasion, and arm ourselves against our future psionic overlords.

Disappointed that she wasn't able to remedy the mood of the room with humor, Roshan mutters, "always seems to work for Conwall..."

"All things considered, I believe your efforts outlasted anyone's estimation by ages." Roshan waits for someone to laugh.

"What empire?" Roshan asks on the heels of the explanation. She begins to re-assemble the censure of Hebron to speed up the injured one's recovery.

On Roshan's next level, she can activate her powers on 7+, and they're all free on 10+. At level 7, Smite upgrades to 1d8 instead of 1d4. Then I think I'm out of playbook moves I'm looking to take.

Roshan whips around. "Maybe it's slipped your mind, but cleaning our equipment and bodies is an essential part of our discipline." She turns to get confirmation from Cassandra, then remembers she's back at the castle with Seprahime.

Adjusting the fit of her armor awkwardly, Roshan follows Belym into the internal chamber.

My thoughts: Ooo, hey, cool spy gadget. Oh, the eye doesn't and shouldn't move. What if it's found and stepped on? Oh... well, better in Roshan's hands then...

Inb4 Conwall picks the boots.

Shocked, but interested, Roshan watches Belym walk past (and under) her.

Roshan pushes to her feet and begins collecting her equipment. The illusion of Hebron collapses into a red fog that disperses quickly.

Didn't find it on Google Play Music. I just started doing podcasts on my commute to work. Overcast has an android app... but mostly I listen at work anyway, so I can prob work with the webpage. I was just hoping maybe there was something I could easily play from my phone for the commute. I'll see what works...

The floor creaks and Roshan slides back a few inches before her armor buckles. Per Armor of Wrath: skin contact with my armor is normally her current Wrath in damage. The templar grits her teeth and resumes her vigil.
Defend: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10
That result depends on if the possible debility is CON.

Roshan pegs one of the tentacles with her infernal crossbow, then braces herself for impact.

Roshan draws her crossbow and kneels in front of the censure of Hebron.

Despite her efforts, she is not able impress her will upon the grounds. She knows she is about to be assaulted by a foe she can neither see nor fire upon. Daunted and desperate, she tries to keep her mind filled with prayer. "Ilsac, favored son of Hebron, grant me the steel to weather this test..."

I wouldn't be too upset if it only modified or delayed the next doom roll. She's just trying to buy the team time because at this rate the Abolethi are going to poach the party's brains in another couple rounds.

Roshan reaches the doorway and drives her iron longsword into the floor at the base of the door.
Defy Danger(STR): 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 5) + 3 = 10
Blinding Light to temporarily halt the ritual?
Shield's strap through her chakram, and down over the sword's hilt. Talwar out, and driven into the floor on either side. Hebron's censure constructed, the chained visage of the dead God rises out of the floor, and turns to brace the door.

Definitely an underrated move.

What's the floor made out of?

Roshan thumps Conwall on the shoulder as he regains his feet, then scans the room. She sees the door is opening slowly, and that this is related somehow to the mental onslaught. She makes a logical, albeit unlikely conclusion, and lunges for the door, hoping to push it closed.

I don't have a great feeling about this question, but what move if any is triggered by slamming one's shoulder into the door?
