Maybe the rules for multiclassing hybrid classes with have been changed with the final release, then? If not, since rogue/slayers are not permitted, this would only be possible for ninja/slayers, I think. ![]()
I only see ambiguity in the use of the phrase "Charisma-based" or "Int-based" in descriptions of items, feats, etc. which modify types of skills. Clarity comes from examining the explanation of the Skills descriptions: "Key Ability: The abbreviation of the ability whose modifier applies to the skill check." For instance, take the description of "Circlet of Persuasion" and replace the phrase "Charisma-based skills," with "skills for which the Charisma modifier is applied to the skill check." Now look at the Lore Oracle's Lore Keeper ability: "Instead of encyclopedic knowledge, you learn most of your information through tales, songs, and poems. You may use your Charisma modifier instead of your Intelligence modifier on all Knowledge checks." For the Lore Oracle, Charisma is "the ability whose modifier applies to the skill check," so the Circlet of Persuasion modifies Knowledge checks for the Lore Oracle. This phrase "x-based skills" is also used throughout the Ability Scores section of the CRB. While this short-hand for indicating what type of skill is modified by the Circlet might be concise and its intention seems clear in the Ability Scores section, it is unfortunately coining a new phrase without defining it, and is therefore ambiguous for cases like the Lore Oracle with a Circlet of Persuasion. If the Ability Scores section of the CRB would specifically be FAQed so as to define a "stat-based skill check" along the lines of the explanation of the Key Ability of skills, the ambiguity would be resolved. ![]()
By popular demand, we've added weeknight sessions at CQ PFS. Our first weeknight games will be Wednesday, March 26, from 5:30 - 10pm, and we'll be hosting games every other Wednesday night. There will be a limit of two tables at these events, so sign up early! This is in addition to our regular weekend games running every second Sunday of the month from 10am to 7pm, with two slots of three tables each. View our event info on the Events Page, and sign up at cq-pfs.com.
P.S. We're always happy to have new GMs join us. Run five games for us or any other Orange County store event and get a free hat! ![]()

Sorry to necro this thread, but everyone seems to have come to the same conclusion, and that is that summoning spells will not work in the Mirror, and I have a different idea to offer. The "manifestation" word in the Conjuration school description might get around summoning restriction, inferring that the creature itself is not summoned across planes. But the Summoning subschool description states that it "brings" creatures, weakening that argument. I think that Eidolon summoning will therefore not work, as the Eidolon is definitely being "brought" from another plane. This doesn't prevent the Eidolon from speaking the command word and entering the Mirror, however. So Summoners are not ruined by the restriction on summoning - they'll just have a bad time if their Eidolon dies. Some players, though, have built their characters around summoning. Given the choice between fudging the module rules by just allowing inter-planar summoning and making some character builds useless in that part of the module, I choose neither. Summon Monster doesn't explicitly state that creatures are summoned from another plane. Nor does Summon Nature's Ally. If you're summoning a dolphin, it isn't necessarily being brought from the Elemental Plain of Water. It's more likely being brought from the nearest ocean. "But all of these non-extraplanar creatures are from the Material Plane," you say. Well, why is that? Who knows what exists in the demiplane. Since it was modeled after the Plan of Shadow, it probably was stocked with plenty of Shadow creatures. Maybe there's a Shadow dolphin swimming along in the nearby Sea of Shadows. And that's where my solution comes in. The Advanced Race Guide includes a Shadow Creature template. Fittingly enough, it's in the section on Fetchlings. When my players cast Summon spells (not Eidolon summonings), I'll downgrade their spell by one level and put the Shadow template onto each of their summoned creatures. I'm not sure what I'll do with Monster Summoning I, but I'll figure something out. ![]()

Has this issue been addressed? I downloaded the PDF tonight and page 3 prints as a blank page. I don't know how many other pages will print blank, as I've only tried printing pp. 3-4 so far. ![]()

Well, since it says that Quote: You receive a +4 dodge bonus to AC against that attack. you should get the extra DR against that attack, if it hits, but not against any other attacks, since they don't get the extra Dodge bonus. ![]()

However, his hit points were effectively doubled since he had received a shield other spell from his gigantic troll ally (by way of imbue with spell ability. Which gigantic troll ally? Do you mean the ogre? Who is casting Imbue with Spell Ability? I don't see any cleric NPCs in the module. ![]()
I've got a question about running this scenario. Spoiler:
It seems that the front doors have no way to be opened. The only way in is through the secret door, unless the characters do something like cast Passwall. I don't even think a Knock spell would work, since the doors seem to only be ornamental and not functional. Does this seem intentional, or just an oversight that no mention is given of how the doors might be opened? Thanks! |
