Born the son of a slave trader Roland ran away with some slaves at the age of 20. He wandered for the next 20 years living as a hedge mage. At the age of 40 he learned of Liberties Edge. He spent the next 10 years of his life searching for a way to join. One faithful night after drinking way to much he was throwing up in an ally, where he witnesssed a group of thugs attempt to assault a gnome. Inebriated and infuriated Roland zapped the saving the gnome. As it turned out this gnome new the secrets of gunsmithing and offered to teach it to Roland.
