About Roland G deWulfRoland deWulf Roland's father, Dean, owned a bounty running business called The Long Eye. Anybody that wanted to put up a bounty came to The Long Eye and Dean would find the one or ones best suited to the task. Those posting the bounty got excellent service, the bounty hunter got anything extra along the way, and The Long Eye took a mere 5% from whichever total was greater. As long as everybody played by the rules, everybody profited. Only twice did any of the hunters skip out with the loot and the object he was charged to find; Dean himself hunted down both men and recovered the object of the bounty. The Long Eye, run by Dean, Roland, and Randall (Roland's younger brother), currently maintains several on-call contracts with various companies, Hawcroft Logging included. Roland, trained by his father in bows and crossbows, developed a sentimental affinity for firearms, and muskets in particular. To him they signified the advancement of the field with the onset of the new generation. Dean bought Roland his first musket when he presented Roland with his first official contract. Randall was trained alongside his brother in the use of bows and crossbows, but being the more bookish of the two, was chosen to take over The Long Eye when Dean retires. Roland himself has no issue with that choice, he knows it's for the good of the company, plus it freed him to take on any bounties that suit him. That's the life that Roland remembers. That's the life that he never thought he'd see again. Hawcroft Logging contacted Dean and Roland about looking into the disappearance of a large group of personnel out of one of their more remote installations. Roland and the rest of the group called on by Hawcroft Logging were making headway in the investigation when things started to go downhill. Suffice it to say that things ended poorly and Roland ended up with severe damage to his left eye and he lost his right eye completely. Roland doesn't care how it works or in whose debt he is in, he would sell his soul to Asmodeus - assuming the demons and devils of legend ever actually existed - for the chance to see again. For the chance to shoot again. ... Roland, though his more recent past has been marred by tragedy, is still thankful for what he has, little though that may be. On a personal level, he often expresses an odd sense of humor that mostly seems to be self-derogatory but throws out an equal amount of quips towards those he considers allies or even friends. He refrains from poking fun at those whom he does not know or has not met, though if the mood is right, he can and will use that as a method of breaking the ice. Professionally, on the other hand, Roland is often standoffish to newcomers, especially those he is forced to work with whom he does not know, though he had good working relationships with many of The Long Eye's primary bounty hunters. He would rather take the time to size up everybody else and have them think him cold, than befriend one who would hinder him or take him off course. Roland is emotionally expressive particularly when confronted with what seems an impossible situation, and gets frustrated at the more intelligent men and women around him for not having a solution, and at himself for not seeing a way that gunpowder can get them through it. That being said, he is not a "shoot first, ask questions later" type. Unless he knows for certain that anyone and anything not in his immediate group is hostile, he will take a moment to assess the situation and gauge his groups reactions prior to firing his weapon. Physically, Roland is barely taller than average, standing at a mere 5'9" and 155lbs. His hair is dark, slightly wild, and not-quite-shoulder-length. His beard, trimmed down to slide along his chin in a goatee and out to the sides to meet his sideburns, is darker still. His face is often in shadow due to his tan, wide-brimmed hat. He wears a custom belt with many pockets, holding his ammo, his armor however, is nondescript studded leather with a dirty, light brown undershirt hiding his arms. A single knee guard on his right knee is his acknowledgment of Gorum, the deity of weapons and tactics. A dagger in its sheath is tied to the outside of his boot - he hasn't had an innerboot sheath created yet. His backpack, tight against his shoulders and high on his back contains his travel gear and is never far from his side. He wears no gloves or mask.
