Backstory:

Rolan was born on Apostae, as a "citizen" of Drow society. Like most Half-Orcs, Rolan was a best a second class citizen, and at worst a target for hatred and discrimination.

Rolan grew up with a hatred of the supernatural. His father was a mystic who followed Zon Kuthon, and nowhere was his faith more...fervent than in his own home.

Unlike his siblings, Rolan was never cowed by his father and the pain he represented: instead, each beating only strengthened his resolve and served to make him mean.

There were two things that set him on the course his life would take, and both happened in a single night. The first was the awakening of his technomancer abilities, and the second was Rolan using said abilities to take his father's life.

When he was taken into custody, Rolan was handed over to a rather severe-looking Drow named Rathin Il'Vayn. Rathin was the marshal of House Il'Vayn, and he had started collecting individuals for a specific unit: a unit designed specifically to deal with supernatural threats.

This unit, which would receive the moniker "Raven's Feather", was very good at it's job. Made up entirely of people who hated the supernatural (though many of it's members used supernatural abilities themselves, including Rolan), Raven's Feather hunted Eoxian pirates who stole from House Il'Vayn, Psychics, spellcasters, solarians, and more.

It was during their last mission that everything went to hell. Rolan was assigned to a squad with twin snipers, a Vanguard front line warrior, and a Dwarven power armor jockey to take down a crew of smugglers of unknown origin. Once on the smuggler's ship, the group neutralized everyone the came across as they made their way to the bridge.

On the bridge was a being that they had heard about but never seen: a Necrovite. This undead monstrosity wielded powerful arcane abilities, and was furthermore a potent psychic.

Needless to say, battle was joined.

When the proverbial dust had settled, the creature was dead and so was all of Rolan's team; the ship likewise powered down, as it appeared the creature's magic was powering it.

For the first time in his life, Rolan was free of all responsibilities, and had a chance to do what he wanted to do in life. After contemplating things for a while, Rolan decided to leave. He would fake his own death and make his way into the stars, using a shuttle from the creature's ship, but only after removing all data in the ship's computer that referenced the shuttle and disabling the shuttlebay doors and welding them shut.

He then made his way to a nearby planet, sold his shuttle, and purchased passage on a cruise ship. Once on the ship, he befriended a doctor who agreed to change his appearance in exchange for Rolan creating some "proof" of his wife's infidelity for their divorce proceedings. Both men got what they wanted.

After disembarking at the next port, Rolan drifted from job to job for a while until he was recruited by the Starfinders. He has never looked back.
