This Bethana seems spicier than usual so I'm going to go in a different direction than the predictable cosy grandma ideas. She's a high caliber actor for such a small role, but Frances McDormand .

Ro is having a moment of greatness. She gets to show off a little for Talene and she has all kinds of ideas for what to do next. First, get the two kids out of the crowd, second give them a stern talking to about the risks they're running. For some added flair she will mention they need to worry less about the town guard than Jubrayl Vhiski, who runs the local sczarni outfit. He doesn't allow outside freelancers to hedge in on his business, and he's not a forgiving soul. All the better if Jubrayl somehow hears about it and it confuses him, which would probably feed his habitual paranoia. Then she will have the two turn over everything they've stolen to her and let them go. Ro will give the stolen items to Talene to add to the lost and found box at the cathedral, or to start a lost and found box if there isn't one already. It's a beautiful package where everyone gets to walk away pretty much unscathed. She clutches a collar in each hand tightly, and quickly leans in between them so she can whisper "We're going to have a little talk, this is serious business to be mucking around with at your age. You walk with me now, or the town guard gets called in." But, it's not to be it seems. After a mere two steps, Ro's boot catches on a crooked cobblestone and she pitches forward, hitting the ground hard. She reflexively lets go of the kids so she can use her arms to save her teeth. Athletics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 So it goes sometimes.

Game knows game. Ro spots the kids even before Talene does. Ro was going to let it go. However Talene moves to intervene so quickly there's no chance for Ro to have a "none of our business" talk with her, so Ro goes as well. "Hey, if we're doing this can we at least do it in a way that won't stir up a fuss? If you put them under, we can take them somewhere out of the crowd and deal with it ourselves. No need for the guard to be part of it." I'm going to assume Talene in some way made her plan apparent to Ro for the sake of narrative smoothness here. Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19

Ro has to laugh at the notion she might rat out Talene to her parents. "Surely you know I am the master of stolen time. It would be downright unethical for me to tell them anything about you. Well, unless you wanted me to lie to them for you. That I could do."

Ro is dressed rather shabbily compared to Talene. It's not that she's in rags; Ro is wearing a darkish blue pair of trousers, with basic white linen shirt and a dark cranberry red doublet, sleeveless like a vest, over it. All of it is well worn, with fading from many washes and signs of mending here and there. The low boots on her feet show similar extensive use. Ro's hair is either a light sandy brown or dark dirty blonde, either description is justifiable, with a bit of a reddish tint to it. So light auburn or dark strawberry blonde are arguable descriptions as well. It is cut fairly short, falling to about her jawline, and slightly wavy. Her skin tone is light, and up close a few freckles that haven't yet faded away can be seen on her nose and cheeks. If she were to try a little harder, Ro might pass as a young, delicate boy. Although she's the same height as Talene, so neither noticeably tall nor short, Ro lacks Talene's curves. This could be due to Talane's extra couple of years and/or their different clothing styles though. When they reach the square, Ro pays little attention to most of the stalls and activity. She pours all of her attention into looking for one stall in particular. Ro had asked Rynshinn a couple of weeks back if she was going to set up a stall for her shop Vernah's Fine Clothing, and Rynshinn has said she would be there. Of course it's too early to stop by there yet unless she wanted to help Rynshinn set up, which is tempting. But, she is hungry and with Talene on the hunt for food so Ro stays the course. She catches the aroma of the skitter skewers. They are tempting. But Ro has plans that will require a bunch of money so she is trying to be thrifty. "Nah, I think getting something from the Rusty Dragon will be enough for me. But, if you want a skewer go ahead, I don't mind waiting."

Since the fight with the weird skeletons is looking like a foregone conclusion that will be concluded quickly, Ro stays where she's at. She continues to keep watch for anything that might be coming up the tunnel. Not sure if I need another roll for the new round but: Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

Ro hears a commotion break out back up above. She goes back up the stairs to what's happening, and finds a bizarre scene. "What would even look like that with flesh on the bones?" she ask Alrec since he's close by. Things don't seem too out of hand though, and she is concerned the noise could alert anyone who is down where the steps lead below. She draws her rapier, but waits to see if there is any response from down the tunnel. She does take the precaution of flattening herself against the wall rather than standing in the middle of the passage so she won't so easily be seen against any backlighting. ◈ Move 15' to new location shown on map. ◈ Perception for watching down the stairway tunnel for approaching menaces. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

Standing beside Oshii, Ro wonders if they're looking at the same thing or not. It comes out some in her whispered reply. "Well, I suppose all stairs are dangerous if you're very clumsy because you can fall down them." But, in case Ohsii didn't mean just specifically the stairs, she continues with a sigh. "Why don't you move that torch back so I can see farther down the tunnel better. The light's messing with my eyesight." Ro will move down the first group of stairs to the top of the second group of stairs as shown on the map. Using Stealth and also Perception to check for traps. Employing dark vision of course.

It took me a while to figure out ammunition as well. It' not very intuitive. You have to go to the Gear section and use "add gear". Ammunition is a subcategory of gear in there, just to the right of the adventuring category. I haven't paid for PB either but it has let me do everything I wanted to so far. One thing I've noticed is when using the PB link in my character sheet I sometimes need to refresh the page for everything to appear. For example, this time it didn't list any gear at all until I refreshed the page.
DM DoctorEvil wrote: I have Ro updated with today's changes through a couple ups and downs. She looks good to go with the exception of equipment. And yes slings are free, but bullets are not... Yeah, I got 20 of them, which cost 2 CP. They're listed on the sheet and included in the money totals listed.

Nah, if Oshii and Ro have met each other at the Rusty Dragon I bet they got along great. Ro is fantastic with people, oodles of charm. If Oshii were to start something though, it would be verbal only. Ro is a lover, not a fighter. I don't know what you might have heard, but Ro doesn't have any problems. It's the people with authority; they're the ones with problems.

I did read the whole thing but to save space... Thanks! Yeah, with some more digging around those seem to be the differences. Mostly athletics covers things I don't expect Ro will be doing. But climbing, swimming, and jumping aren't always things you get to choose to do or not. Trained brings athletics to only +3 which isn't great. But it's better than +0. Besides crafting seems to require tools and materials that will be expensive for a while to come. Training it now wouldn't mean using it now. I'll stick with Athletics.
My two cents incoming... First, anything is possible more or less. That said, if I remember correctly Cougar Creek should be about an easy day's walk south of Sandpoint. That's pretty close, and the area isn't by canon really known for giants. Mostly giants are found in the east on the Storval Plateau, or in the mountainous areas. If it were me, the easiest place to put a little hamlet that could see a giant attack would be the mushfens, east of Magnimar. Those would be marsh giants of course, but they're legit giants. Again if I recall correctly, Magnimar is about 3 or 4 days travel from Sandpoint. Not too far really if you're looking to be from the general area. If you prefer a drier version of giant, the Malgorian Mountains are northeast of Sandpoint across Ember Lake. There could be some giants there. It would also be easy to drop a settlement there since it's an area without lots of other stuff all around. |
