after collecting the necessary material which cost 1000 gp. A mage may perform a special ritual which requires sacrificing a permanent 1 point of Constitution. The result of which creates a Magus Staff.

Magus Staff: Stores up to 100 spell points which maybe be used to either fire bolts of arcane energy or as fuel for spells.

When firing arcane bolts, 1 spell point = 1d6 damage with a maximum of 5d6 for 5 points spent at any one time. A staff mages uses the fighter attack rolls for the bolts. The bolts have a base reflex save to avoid of DC 20. Spell Points used to fuel spells are 1 sp = 1 spell level.

Improved magus Staff: by affixing a gem worth at least 500 gp and sacrificing a permanent 1 hp, a staff magus increases the reflex save to avoid his arcane bolts to DC 22 and can now fire bolts with a maximum damage of 6d6.

I have read a lot of different takes on using the adept npc class as a pc class over the last few years and I feel that most over look the possibilities that this class offers. I have always been a fan of a stream lined rules and even low magic campaigns. The adept fits that bill nicely. Even the other three class fit in well. There is nothing broke about it. To give All the npc classes a chance to custom by individual is just give them extra feats and then go to town. I personally use a bonus feat at each level. This allows for all kinds of customization. add the animal cohort feat and fey heritage feats and you have a druid style character. I apply this to the pilgrim npc using the commoner class. Give him the the lay priest and mystic healer feats and you have a healer that has an old style midevil feel.
