Background:
Risam was born in Deepmarket to the Wakoshi clan of ratfolk. A clan that specialized in thievery, smuggling, and illicit goods. Yet the city of Goka above the Deepmarket did not ignore their underworld, having standing quest for adventures to travel below for a number of reasons. One such adventuring group attacked and displaced the Wakoshi clan, driving them upward and into the city above. For a time the clan made a home for itself in Goka. It was during this time that they dabbled into the shipping business. Rather stealing from docked ships and those anchored off shore, it was during this time that Risam was introduced to the trade of his clan.
During the theft of cargo from one ship in the docks he stumbled upon a chest of vials, jars, and bottles. Once back in his clan hold he presented the find to their appraiser who identified them to be materials of an alchemist. Advanced and pure substances that would bring more gold for the clan then the rest of the stolen cargo ten times over. This sparked Risam's curiosity and he pursued the trade with his clans blessing for some time. Then came another group of adventures, these at the request of some ship captain who had suffered at the hands of the clan's trade. This time the Wakoshi did not flee below or to another city but stole a small fleet of ships from the same captain who had sent the adventures after them. So they set sail to the other side of the world.
The Wakoshi suffered greatly during the long journey, losing more then one ship in their progress. Still they made it to their destination, ending up in the shackles and more precisely among the Ushinawa Isles. They landed on an uninhabited island and proceeded to make a home and base for themselves. Taking to the pirate culture with ease and quietly growing their home. Their presence did not go unnoticed for long by the samurai on the other island, considering the ratfolk dishonorable and invaders they sought to destroy the budding village. The Wakoshi were one step ahead of the samurai and scattered. Finally deciding that in order to find a true home they would need true power, wealth, and reputation. All clan members were sent out to acquire these things in their own way. Returning to a certain island every three years to report on the clan's progress in their intended goal.
Risam for his part thought it best to increase his own skills as a alchemist and become a true pirate. After all in the shackles, pirates could have anything they wanted if they could take it. You did not have to rely on brute strength to be a pirate or prosper.

With a number of weapons, pouches, and still more vials at his waist as well.
Personality:
Risam is concerned with increasing his own position and power. Not bothered with silly things like right or wrong. His actions are based on what will grant him the most gain for the least cost. He has no ego, pride, or reservations of any kind concerning the methods in which he goes to achieve his goals.
Faith thru Cunning- As a worshiper of Norgorber, Risam often uses trickery and deceit to the point of being part of his nature.
Scheming- Risam is never without a secret plan of some kind often without regard to morality.
Unscrupulous- Never one to let morality get in his way, it simply does not factor into anything for him one way or the other.
Touchy of Form- Risam has a sore spot for what others think of his race's appearance. A constant source of annoyance for him at their disdain or outright disgust.
Adaptable- A point of necessity for his people, Risam has learned to be adaptable to just about anything. Taking changing events in stride and making the best of them he can.
Loyal- Those that earn his trust can count on him fully. Betrayal is not a sin but rather unthinkable concerning true comrades.
