Male Human Beguiler 1

Welcome aboard. We can always use more casters :)

In reply to Szaranoth: "OK. sounds like a plan. After you. Who else is coming?"

Male Human Beguiler 1

Spot Check (1d20+4=20)

In reply to Szaranoth, Rielch returns his gaze form the corwded common room back towards his new "companions." As far as I can tell, there are three possible options here for the sheriff. Either the big bald dark guy over there, The guy with the short hair, or the Shiela with the Red hair over there."

Taking the key, Rilech returns to his room, not to sleep, but he doesn't like any sort of attention, and will return to the common room when things are a bit busier in order to suss out what this town is like.

Listen Check (1d20+4=15)

Hearing the increase in noise form the common room, he returns, and with a slight nod of recognition to Targ, silently resumes his seat at the table, and focuses his attention on the rest of the room attempting to just pick up the general "vibe" of the town.

Listen = 5, Spot = 18

In response to Targ's inquiry"Let's just say I have a past I am trying to leave behind. This looks liek as good a place as any for a new beginning."[/ooc]

To Szaranoth"Mind if I join you on your trip to the sheriff. My coin purse is also running a tad low at the moment."

The young man then sits back and examines his new companions thoughtfully.

Bethana smiles at Rilech, "Please wait a moment for your room. The inn is almost full to capacity, you see. Take a seat and I'll bring out some food and drink for you."

Thankyou.

Targ the Unwieldy wrote:
To Rilech: "Come join us, friend. No need to eat alone in an otherwise empty taproom. And the halfling's buying!"

Rilech reposnds hesitantly, "Well, if the halfling's buying...." and slowly rises from his seat and moves over to join the Dwarf and his companions at their table.

And so it starts. Just like it always does. I wonder how long it takes until I am the butt of their "jokes" and little more than something for them to push around? I was hoping to be able to make new life here in Sandpoint. Looks like I'll have to leave first thing in the morning. I wonder where I will go now? Well, let's see how this goes. Maybe these guys are different to all the others?

Rilech glances up at the others as they direct their words towards him. He gives a slight hint of acknowledment to their greetings, before turning to the Barmaid, "Thanks. I would like all three, Food, Drink and a Room please."

Male Human Beguiler 1

"Swallowtail Festival you say. Sounds like it could be fun. I'll make sure I check it out." And the free food will help my empty belly as well he thinks to himself.

"Thanks for your help mate" Rilech calls over his shoulder as he heads down the street to the Rusty Dragon.

Arriving at the Rusty Dragon, the patrons inside notice a small, wiry young man slink in and take a seat in a darkened corner, he appears to be doing his best to disappear into the wall behind him.

The sun setting, Rilech drags his tired bones into Sandpoint.

Thank you my good man. I could do with some grub and a place to stay the night.

What's the go with all these decorations? Seems a bit flash for a place such as this.

Thanks for the spoiler tags Radavel, but it's no big secret. My alignment is True Neutral.

For Radavel:

Spoiler:
Just waiting for the introduction, then I'll jump right in. Somehting like i have just arrived in sandpoint on my flight from the academy?

Male Human Beguiler 1

OK, I'm back, I have been away at a conference all week without internet access, but I'm back now. I'll get caught up on the game thread, and am ready for you to introduce Rilech when it fits.

I just need to finalise gear and then I'll be ready to go (but it will basically be wizard starting gear, just what he grabbed as he fled the wizard academy).

Having read through the game thread, it appears previously knowing someone in the party will not work. That's fine, I'll make it work some other way.

Ready when you are Radavel.

Here is Rilech, just have to finalise gear, and then I'll be ready to go.

Radavel, I plan on taking Wizard at 2nd level, is it alright if I start with the spell book? Just makes much more sense to me.

Here's my background and personality for reference.

Background: Warning, the background is long and detailed, but I've been working on it for a while, and I seem to be constantly adding more details to it each time :)

Spoiler:
I never knew my parents. The only memories I have of them is sitting on my fathers knee as he leafed through his spell book, enraptured at the strange, arcane writings wrought upon the page, and snippets of being entranced by his display of magic abilities.

The rest of my childhood was spent in an orphanage, I assume after my parents died. But being one of the smallest kids there, and somewhat socially awkward, I was the frequent target of bullying. Sure, the kindly old lady who ran the orphanage was nice enough, but she was naive as to what happened after she retired for the evening. Suffice to say I was often the target of the bigger kids. I tried to compensate by retreating into a world of knowledge and reading, but that only seemed to make me a bigger target. As soon I was able to steal a few silvers, I ran away, figuring life on the streets would have to be better than there.

And for a (short) while it was. This was the first time I didn’t have to constantly be on my guard. However, it didn’t last long, and after only a few days I had quickly run through my meager finances, and was now cold, hungry and alone with no immediate prospects of improving my situation.

With no other option, I decided to try my hand at pickpocketing. I had seen numerous other street urchins accomplish the feat, and to be honest, it didn't look that hard. However, I was caught with my hand in the pocket of the first likely mark I saw. Backed into a corner, my mind racing, I tried to reason with him, however, I am not sure what I said, for it didn't sound like any language I knew. But all of a sudden, his mood relaxed, and he acted like we were best buddies. Not knowing how long it would last, I took off out of there like a bat out of hell.

Over the next couple of days, through experimentation, meditation, concentration and study, I was able to replicate the effect on others, which meant I now had a roof over my head and food to eat at least.

Seeking to put my new found "talent" to work, I soon was a rather successful pickpocket, which drew the attention of a local street gang. When they came to "deal" with me, I was able to "convince" their leader to instead let me join. However, I was terrified to use my unique talents in front of anyone, and my lack of physical prowess meant I was rather unsuccessful. Through a little luck and a lot of hard work, I just managed to do enough to avoid getting kicked out, but I languished at the bottom of the totem pole. repeatedly getting passed over for "promotions" and quickly being surpassed by new recruits. It was just like the orphanage, but worse.

Despite this hardship I was able to eventually scrape together enough coin to sit the entrance exam to the local wizards academy. With dreams of emulating my father, which I had kept alive for years, I took the test, hoping against hope to be successful. To everyone’s surprise (including my own), I topped the test, and was accepted with a full scholarship.

Finally I thought, here among people like myself (relying on brains and not brawn), I would finally find acceptance. How wrong I was. It was worse than the orphanage. Most of the students came from families with a rich magical tradition, who looked down on a poor upstart with now arcane tradition or background. Only this time, those bullying me also had access to magic.

I however, was determined that nothing would stand in my way, and simply applied my self more diligently to my studies. My studies were a raging success, and not only was I now topping the class, I was also among the teachers favorites. Unsurprisingly, this only intensified the bullying, but I was determined to at least see out graduation.

However, one evening, only two weeks before our final assessment was to begin, I was subject to an unforgivable prank. I really don’t want to go into the details, I will leave it up to your imagination, and say it was worse than anything you can imagine. Suffice to say I snapped. Not realising the fury they had unleashed, my attackers retired for the evening, leaving me alone. I waited until I was sure they were all asleep. The gathering my meager possessions, I crept up to the room my tormentors shared, and summoned 3 fiendish wolves from a pilfered scroll of Summon Monster III. Overcome with what I had just done, I fled, determined to complete my magical “education” on my own.

Personality:
Spoiler:
First and foremost, Rilech is out for number one. He learnt early in life the only one you can count on is yourself. He expects no help from anyone, and is only concerned about looking after himself.

However, those that do prove their loyalty are rewarded with a loyal friend for life. He knows well the benefits a strong bond of friendship can provide, just don't expect him to make the first approach.

Ideally, it would be great if he was already quite tight with another member of the party (preferably a lawful type). Rilech is the sort of character who is reluctant to get involved in things that aren't his concern, but is the first to volunteer to help a friend. Let me now if you see that sort of thing fitting your character concept.
