About Renat
Renat Surtova.
Renat was named for his grandfather - a famous figure in the second Mendevian crusades, before the wardstones, when Brevoy feared the demons would once again stretch through Mendev to the lake. For his first ten years Renat was raised as a treasured child of the nobility. Then his horns grew out - and even surgery couldn’t keep his Tiefling traits from showing through. Though investigation showed it was likely a latent infection his grandfather contracted in his heroic fight, passed through the generations, Renat’s family was appalled. His next ten years were spent locked in a tower. Visited only by tutors.
If Renat’s body was trapped, his ferocious intellect was not. He devoted himself to studying lore, scholarship - and also lockpicking and escapism. From there he moved to stage magic. There he discovered true magic, and finally started to unlock the power of prophecy. He found there a plan. A way that would see his freedom restored, prove a Tiefling could be a Good noble, and perhaps work to remove the prejudice against the tainted..
