Liberty's Edge

Remus gleams proudly as Mea obliterates the dummy, proud that she had gotten the hang of the turn. As her form shifts, Remus quickly attempts to jump off.

Ride (Fast Dismount): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23

Landing safely on his feet Remus sighs in relief, and sets his shield and lance on the ground.

"Here, let me help you with that, its rather valuable and I'd rather not tell father that it was destroyed." Remus offers, already pulling a strap free.

Liberty's Edge

Ride Check: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (13) + 13 = 26

Remus keeps his positioning in the saddle with minimal difficulty, and keeps his lance level with the target as Mea charges at a different target. "Getting there..."

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 10 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 10 + 4 + 1 = 19
Damage: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3, 2) + 6 = 14

The lance hits its mark with little difficulty and seems to penetrate an inch of the dummy's head. Remus clenches his brow, preparing for the devastating that's mere miliseconds away.

Liberty's Edge

Remus nods in affirmation, lowering his visor again, and raising his lance and shield. As they come to the point of the turn, Remus sharply jabs his heel in Mea's side.

"Alright Mea, if this don't work, then we have to work with that time tested saying." Remus thinks to himself as he readies his body to anticipate Mea's movements.

Liberty's Edge

Remus keeps himself out of the conversation between Varis and Mea, largely due to having nothing to contribute.

"Woah!" Remus exclaims as Mea begins to proceed towards another dummy without much warning. Remus manage to cling on, his training with riding Grolf without the use of reins paying off.

"Alright. Just hold up a second. You need to exhibit more patience and focus, you're way to easily distracted and flighty. If you want this to help you to master a combat style, you need to work in tand- together with me. And that means keeping focused." Remus lectures, clearly showing that his patience is starting to wear thin. "Now, let's try this again. When I jab my heel into your side you need to bend around it, this will line you up with the target, allowing you to turn fluidly and maintain balance and speed. Understand?"

Authoritative Command is active for this charge (unlimited ability that last one turn and requires a move action, I think its pretty useful for a cavalier).

Liberty's Edge

"Eh, I'd say its still a work in progress. You need to be more fluid in your movements, that was too rigid and sudden. We could've easily bailed on that." Remus replies, brushing hay from his visor before raising it. "Still, if there's a combat style that'll allow you to do that without a rider, it'll certainly cause some chaos for your enemies."

"D'you want to try again, get the timing down and such?" Remus inquires, before finally noticing the elf.

"Yeah, we're ok. A less experienced rider would've lost control and been thrown off to be certain. And of course she's not to trained as a mount, what an odd prospect for a..." Remus pauses in mid-reply, not actually certain how to finish, "...uh...Tiefling that can become a dragon...? Anyways, odd prospect for her to be."

Liberty's Edge

Varis, you replied too early...

Ride Check: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
Attack Roll: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19
Damage Roll: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1, 2) + 6 = 13

Despite Mea's surprise and knee-jerk reaction, as well as the unfamiliar ride, Remus is able to stay in the saddle and strike the dummy, though not as powerfully as he had prior.

"Careful Mea, you need to stay focused on the task at hand!" Remus cries out as Mea closes to polish off the dummy.

Liberty's Edge

"Alrighty." Remus says to himself, getting a feel for the ebb and flow of Mea's movements as she charges forward. Remus spots an untouched dummy coming up on his right and at the last second he plants his heel firmly in Mea's side, indicating with some force to bend around the heel. "Now or never Venture Captain." Remus thinks, his lance pointed outwards beyond Mea's horns.

Liberty's Edge

After finishing off the straps, Remus nods before climbing on to the saddle.

"Ok, yeah, I think I'm set." Remus says, waving for Grolf to come over, and Remus retrieves his lance. "Now, I tend to give Grolf physical cues in combat, but as the two of us have been training together for over a decade, I'm going to stick to verbal cues, save for when we're to do the wheeling charge. That you will know when I want you to turn, as you should feel it." Remus explains, lowering his visor and lifting his lance and shield.

"Alright, if you got it, break for a forward charge, I'll make sure to give you the cue when to turn." Remus instructs, bracing himself mentally for what's about to happen.

Remus has made use of his Authoratative Command Ability, providing Mea and himself a +1 competence bonus on attack rolls, weapon damage rolls, and saving throws and to Armor Class for 1 round. This is provided Mea follows his instructions

Remus hasn't noticed Varis due to being a little too focused on not angering Mea in anyway, (also I didn't see your post until after posting the initial version of this post, and don't know how to alter it accordingly)

Liberty's Edge

"I suppose there's no convincing her otherwise, this will certainly be one of the weirder things to try to explain..." Remus thinks to himself as he rest his brow in his fingers. With a sigh of defeat he hops off of Grolf and heads to a nearby shed, procuring one of the dustiest and oddest looking saddles from within. "Sheesh, I'm amazed that this is actually here, I thought Dad was making stuff up." Remus mutters, carrying the saddle over to Mea.

"I'll need to strap this on to your back first, as I really don't think it'd be safe for me to try to ride you bareback..." Remus states before sighing in mild irritation. "Please let no Calistrian's have heard that, I really don't need that sort of conversation..."

"If...would you please lower your stance so I can reach, please?" Remus asks, holding the exotic saddle in a way that would make placing it on Mea's back easiest.

Liberty's Edge

"Oh!" Remus exclaims, taking in the sight of Mea becoming a black dragon before his eyes. "Uh...I suppose I'd be able to direct you to turn instantly in a charge, but it wouldn't really help in the long run, as you'd consistently need a well-trained small cavalier in order to make use of that ability."

Liberty's Edge

Hoo-boy, this truly must be a test of petientce for Remus, wether Mea intends it or not...

Remus smiles, accepting her hand and giving a good firm shake. "Glad to meet you Venture Captain Mea, its nice to see that there are those who mingle amongst us lower-rank agents like you are. As for martial arts, I am, ashamedly, not very knowledgeable of them, and haven't heard of any that would allow you to turn mid-charge. My sister, Lupia, had told me of Dragon Style though, which allows you to charge past allies without difficulty, but beyond that I can't really help you, and I don't think Grolf could either."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15 To convince Mea, subtly, to not further pursue the subject. Which I doubt will work regardless of result.

"And, you're a Dragon? I may be mistaken, but you look like a Tiefling to me. I admit, there are certainly Draconic aspects to your appearance, I can certainly say that much, and I'm more than aware that there are those who embrace their Draconic heritage and manifest elements of it physically." Remus remarks with some confusion "Though it is a shame that the mental likeness doesn't necessarily apply. OH GODS, NOILLI IS GOING TO ME A MENACE IF SHE BECOMES AS STRONG AS THIS WOMAN!" Remus thinks to himself, still maintaining his smile.

Liberty's Edge

"I'm sorry, had you been addressing me?" Remus replies, looking in the direction of the Draconic Tiefling. "I'm aware that my short stature causes my kind to resemble a human child in height, but as for physical development and mental maturity I am an adult. And Grolf is certainly a prime example of a well developed adult Wolf."

"As for how I did that, its a technique I've been practicing with Grolf since a Summoner by the name of Twilika showed it to us. It requires a fair amount of co-ordination and trust between rider and mount, and something of a staple maneuver of the Paladins of Lastwall. The maneuver itself is called a 'Wheeling Charge'." Remus explains before climbing back into his saddle atop Grolf (This will possibly bring Remus to eye level with Mea, as Grolf is 5'6" at the shoulder). "The name is Remus Thickfist the Fourth, Lance Corporal Eagle Knight, owner of the Thickfist Ranch, and descendant of famed halfling martial artist, Romulus "Shimmer-strike" Thickfist." Remus introduces himself, bowing politely.

Liberty's Edge

Seeing the training grounds empty, Remus rides Grolf in, his lance resting on his shoulder as he surveys the training dummies.

"Nice day, good thing for some preliminary training, eh Grolf?" Remus says, petting Grolf's head. The large wolf whines in affirmation, readying himself for a command.

Remus lowers the visor of his helm, and readies his lance and shield.

"Now lessee about matching that little maneuver Twilika had shown off about a month ago, eh Grolf?" Remus gestures with his knees for Grolf to get into a full run, which the large wolf complies with immediately. They proceed roughly thirty feet forward before Remus jabs his knee sharply into Grolf's left side, forcing him to veer 90 degrees to the left, straight towards a training dummy.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
Damage: 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 6, 6) + 5 = 19

The blow strikes true, with quite some force, leaving a inch and a half indent in the dummy's head. Following through with the charge, Grolf goes for the dummy's leg.

Attack Roll: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Damage: 2d6 + 10 ⇒ (6, 4) + 10 = 20
Trip Attempt: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

Grolf strike leaves a similarly deep set of indents on the dummy's leg, and pulls the wooden mock-up to the ground with an extreme amount of force. The mount and rider proceed another 30 feet past the target before coming to a full halt. Remus raises his visor, looking back at the dummy, now lying flat on the ground.

"Whew, great work Grolf, that was an excellent effort. Sheesh, if that were an actual enemy they'd certainly be hurting." Remus remarks, hopping off of Grolf with a thump. "Now, lets pick this thing up and try it for another target."

Remus makes his way over to the dummy, picking it up and placing it back in its spot. "Wow, we certainly made some deep impacts here, Grolf." Remus remarks as he examines the indents. "Real person would certainly have troubles walking after a bite like that..." Remus visibly shudders at the thought before turning back to Grolf, who has lain down yawning lazily.

Liberty's Edge

"Master? Ma'am, you humble me, I am still but a pupil in the arts of mounted combat. I have little doubts that you and Kantaria are more than accomplished in the arts of battle." Remus replies, his composure someone shaken from the compliment. "That said, I feel as though the tactics of a Hellknight are not for me, I prefer to inspire my allies as opposed to scare my enemies."

Remus shifts himself in the saddle again, sitting more upright to better meet the others in conversation. Which really doesn't help him much as he now sits at about four and a half feet tall

Liberty's Edge

"Impressive! If that were a demon it certainly would be questioning retaliating against you after that!" Remus states with awe, clapping his hands in congrats. "As for the dummy, I'm certain that there are enough carpenters and crafters to replace the dummy, so you probably shouldn't concern yourself about it. After all, it's what they're here for."

Liberty's Edge

"Lastwall? Huh, I'm from Almas, originally, though I spent quite a bit of time in the vicinity of Lastwall that I believe I should be able to learn a technique or two from the mounted warriors there. Currently I own a ranch just outside of Almas, I raise wolves there with my sister, there are enough halflings who make good use of them as mounts, and even more who make good use of them as companions, or even just hired guard-dogs." Remus replies, placing his lance in its place on the saddle.

"Yeah, but I've been making an effort to keep Grolf up to par, so unfortunately my own skills have fallen back a bit. However, I agree that learning to strike with more power would certainly be agreeable. So...by all means." Remus gestures to indicate that he's ready for her to proceed with the demonstration, as he settles forward to better point things out to Grolf.

Liberty's Edge

"That was some superb handling of your..." Remus, a halfling sitting upon wolf, states before feeling stumped looking at the strange equine-like creature.

Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21

"Oh! An Eidolon, ok, that makes sense. Yes, as I was saying, that was some superb handling in that charge with your Eidolon friend there. Grolf and I have certainly been striving to attain that sort of control, though I suppose we need more experience before we can master that sort of maneuver." Remus resumes, petting Grolf's head. "However, I suppose talk is just that, perhaps I should show off my own skill."

Remus dons his shield and readies his lance before giving a sharp audiable cue to Grolf, who in turn springs to a powerful charge, the lance readied to strike the dummy. In the midst of the charge, Remus recites a short battle cry, inspiring himself and all allies in his midst.

Lance Charge, non-lethal: 1d20 + 15 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 15 - 4 = 25

Mount Charge, non-lethal: 1d20 + 13 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 13 - 4 = 19

Remus' lance hits true, squarely in the center of the dummy's chest, whereas Grolf's bite seems to nearly rip the dummy's leg off. Remus gives a clicking noise with his mouth and Grolf comes to a halt several yards away from the dummy. Remus rests his lance on his shoulder and looks to Twilika, grinning slightly.

"So, how was that?"

Liberty's Edge

An interesting shift in goals, but one no less noble!

I may have begun my fight for freedom late, but I shall continue the fight just as willingly. I may not exactly be one for politics (but that hasn't stopped me from taking advantage of my charming personality), bit I shall do my best to aid the new cause whilst ensuring our prior cause does not go forgotten. Freedom and justice for all!
