Hey, just checking, is anybody else still alive?

<- this is JJ's player.

Name: Joshua Joseph "JJ" Williams
Skin: Infernal
Gender/Sexuality: Cis Male, Gay
JJ was given a full-ride scholarship to Summerwood through a mysterious benefactor. He doesn't know why, only that his parents made some kind of deal to get him here. They warned him to not accept any strange correspondence, but there was this letter, right in his welcome packet on his new bed in the dorms, which put him in contact with a mysterious "Mr. Malphas", who said if he had any trouble, to drop him a call or text at this one particular number. Since then, and maybe a dozen texts later, a few strange things have happened around campus, but JJ hasn't quite put it together yet...

This is a pickup of a home one-shot game we decided to extend into a PbP campaign. This game is not accepting new players at this time, we're just continuing with the players and characters we started with.

Most of the game was run off-the-cuff, with few notes, so I'll recap some basics, and you guys can fill in any and all details you remember. (Feel free to offer corrections if I get details wrong, I'm re-writing this from memory.)

Your three main characters were an active agent of the BBB, also known as the B3 (to differentiate it from the Better Business Bureau), jokingly referred to as the "Broke Budget Bureau," an angelic Messenger who was bound into a human body, and a dark elf/drow who is herself awakening to her own magical powers.

The characters were investigating a serious of unusual deaths in a small suburban town (Joesville?) that existed within a larger suburban sprawl. This town consisted of one main 'downtown' street, where most of the major businesses, including restaurants, a movie theater, etc, existed along, with the rest of the town residential housing.

The players had investigated each of the deaths, the first behind a theater, the second outside of a restaurant, and the third in a neighborhood front yard. The discovered a common element, a teenage boy named Jake, who seemed to be involved in each one, either as a bystander, or relative.

Jake, as you discovered, is an elf, recently awakened to his true supernatural heritage. He felt lonely, but could tell when people he knew were also had supernatural creatures within them, and would try to unlock that for some of his friends. Unfortunately, this seemed to backfire, as they wound up dead.

Trying to look into this, you discovered, at an underage-friendly club, an off-duty police officer who was also investigating things, whom you discovered was actually a werewolf attempting to hide the supernatural elements in the police files on these cases.

Attempting to summon and bind what you thought was the culprit, a succubus, at a nearby warehouse, you instead summoned a fire giant, a massive red demon, which attacked you and the werewolf officer. Jake was taken by the succubus, and you teleported away, accidentally leaving the werewolf behind.

Meeting back up with the werewolf, he managed to track Jake's scent to a Chinese restaurant at night, which was crawling with imps, dark spirits. Sneaking into the place, you discovered that the succubus was actually Jake's mother, whose death had been faked, not of her own free will. When he was born, she had been an elf (perhaps not yet awakened?) but in the last 15 or so years, she had accumulated additional powers, which had changed her into a succubus since then. She had been trying to protect Jake, but didn't know about the fire giant's motives.

From what we recall, that's where we left off. Please, fill in any details you remember, and provide your characters' names, details, and playbook mechanics.

I'm interested in making a Monstrous (though if someone else really has their heart set on it, I could do something else).

Derek Gargan

Derek is descended from a hidden bloodline, inhuman in nature. Origins unknown (perhaps shadowkind turned to good ends?), rare members of this bloodline act as predators of the supernatural, guarding humanity from the true dangers in the darkness. During the day, in strong sunlight, they look as ordinary men and women, but out of the sun, or at night, their senses come alive, and they can turn into bestial forms, bearing claws, horns, wings, looking much like the psuedo-demonic form of the gargoyles that adorn medieval churches and other structures.

Derek is only minorly aware of this ancestry as a childhood story; his father grew up here, but left for unknown reasons, dying while Derek was only a boy. Now having lost his mother in a freak car accident, he has been forced to reconnect with his long-lost extended family, who haven't mentioned the bloodline except in the most vague terms (and it's unknown if any of them are also powered). The bloodline only awakens in the presence of supernatural energies, and outside of Howling Creek, his family powers had lay dormant. At school, he feels like an outsider in the junior class, excluded from the cliques that formed years ago, and while he excelled in sports at his old high school, he arrived to town too late to join the local team for the season. He's angry at the loss of his family and being forced into new surroundings, and of course nobody understands him, just as he doesn't understand the social customs of the small town.

His powers have already awakened, even if he's not aware of them yet. He's felt a hint of energy in the night air, calling to him in a way he doesn't yet understand. He will need to learn how to use those powers if he is to survive.
