Life started out simple for the young pup. She was born with two brothers and a sister. A usual litter for her pack. The eldest pup, Razer, was a feisty young kitsune. He would always be getting into trouble with his parents. The next pup was Rain. He was more calm and watched as Razer got into trouble. This caused their parents to think Rain was part of the mischief. ReZa’s younger sister, Ruza, was always following ReZa around and they had a good life. Though with their life so closely intertwined, when tragedy strike, it strikes in pairs.
Razer and Rain were off getting into trouble that morning that the guns were heard in the distance. ReZa and Ruza were off doing what girl kitsune. Being too young to control their shape shifting abilities, they changed into foxes. They ran through the forest, returning to their family. They were in a hurry and didn’t see the trap until it was too late. They hung in the trap for a short while before a burly human came and put them into cages. At that age, they didn’t understand what the man said and were scared. He placed them in separate cages and covered them up. They could talk the fox tongue, but were too scared to transform back to a humanoid form.
The weeks passed and the cloth covering ReZa’s cage was only uncovered on rare occasions. Several occasions she was moved off the wagon while Ruza was set left behind. She would be taken up to some fancy dressed person and they talked. ReZa tried to talk several time, but to no effect. One day, she was off on one of these trips when the man brought her back, she called out to Ruza, but Ruza wasn’t there. She spent the night howling for her sister.
It was several weeks after that that ReZa was spotted by a traveling bard. Bard, unlike most people, know lore and creatures of the woods. He recognized ReZa for a young Kitsune and knew he had to get her out of the cage. Later that night, the Bard sung and lulled the merchant and his guards into a deep slumber that lasted until the morning. He was able to rescue the young Kitsune and freed her later that night.
The Bard talked ReZa into stayed with him over the next few weeks, and eventually ReZa was able to turn back into her human form. The Bard, being a worldly traveler, was able to figure out which language she knew and he was able to teach her common and she grew close to him. Started to think of him as a teacher and a mentor. The Bard joined up with a band of performers and ReZa started to learn more things than the Bard could teach her alone.
Several years later, ReZa was able to meet up with her family. They thought both ReZa and Ruza were lost and had already given up hope on ever meeting them again. When ReZa’s group came in contact with them, they were overjoyed. They group stayed there for a week and expected ReZa to stay behind with her family. But ReZa needed to find her little sister first and then they could both go back home.
