Lantern Lodge

So I purchased my Pathfinder Core Rulebook from amazon, considering the twenty dollar price difference. When I received my book, it had some slight damage to the cover. At the top of the book, it looks as though it was bound to tightly, and that part of the cover is mushed. The pages aren't damaged... Hope you understand what I am talking about.

Anyways, was just wondering if anyone else purchased a Pathfinder book from amazon, and if their books had any damage. I would return it, but I don't want to deal with the return, as well as the process of getting another book shipped.

Lantern Lodge

My apologies, it seems I do not have time to attend this campaign. Again, my apologies. Sorry I have wasted your time, and thank you for accepting me. Please enjoy.

Lantern Lodge

So the rule book says that at 1st level the Eidolon gets 4 additional skills to be class skills. Now how do I place ranks in these skills, or what do I do?

Lantern Lodge

Just updated my summon. Never played a summoner, so if I could please have the GM check over, to ensure accuracy. Thank you. Just need to place skill ranks, and points on summoner, and my Eidolon, and my character will be completed. Hopefully when finish that tonight, or tomorrow morning.

Lantern Lodge

I still need to work on my character, but I can never find the time. Hopefully tonight, or tomorrow before my path session I can get everything worked out. Thanks for accepting me.

Lantern Lodge

Thank you guys for the quick response. For the first time in my life, I think I understand magic in these tabletop games. :P

Lantern Lodge

Okay thanks guys for your help, but what the hell is the d% die? I know I know, I should know, but I am new to this table top gaming business. :P

Not sure about binding, but Outsiders are creatures with the Outsider type, like elementals, demons, devils, etc. Their combat stats will be under their listing in the Bestiary.

For spell failure chance, you roll percentile dice. For a ASF chance of 55%, you'd roll and your spell fails if you roll 55 or lower.

Okay, awesome... So I would attempt to bind it, and the stats would be pulled from Bestiary, thank you sir. :P Regarding spell fails, I would roll a 100 sided die, if I roll lower than 55, I fail. So if my failure chance was 20% I would role a?

Lantern Lodge

So I just bought the Ultimate Magic Guide, and was reading through it, and now, I have a few questions I hope someone here can answer it for me.

1. So I found out that you can Bind Outsiders, and I was reading through it, and I understand how to do it, but what is the point? Is it just for story, or can I actually command these creatures to aid me in battle? If I can command them in battle, where do I find their stats, AC, Attack, Hp, etc.

2. Also, I know this does not directly tie into the Ultimate Magic Guide, but I was wonder how Spell Failure Chance was determined. If I cast a level one spell, and had an Arcane Spell Failure chance of 55% how exactly do I determine if I fail?

Lantern Lodge

Hopefully I will know who was accepted into the campaign after work, can't wait to see if I am chosen. :P Good luck to you as well Chrystrom.

Lantern Lodge

So I feel like this campaign is not doing so well. I hope that the GM comes back on the 1st and selects characters, so we can get this thing going on August 5th. I am really interested in playing. :P

Lantern Lodge

Recruitment goes to August 1st. Character selection will begin. Campaign start date August 5th.

Lantern Lodge

I think I am finished. Please let me know what you think. I made a back story of why I joined the faction, and why I had accepted the expedition. Hopefully it is good enough, it took me three days, strained my brain, and is my first background story EVER. :P Anyways, hope its good enough. Thank you.

Lantern Lodge

Magus class sounds awesome. :P I was considering choosing that class, but decided to do Summoner first. Will be good playing a campaign with a Magus, will give me a better understanding of the class.

Lantern Lodge

Okay thank you. I do think I have an idea on how my character ended up at the island of Jalmeray...

I will work on the back story, hopefully get that finished tonight, than work on my character tomorrow after work. I also forgot to add initiative, and there are a few things still unfinished on his stat sheet.

Trying to hurry and get everything finished, in time for the campaign. Really interested in playing. :P

Lantern Lodge

Can't I have my summon carry me? I suppose I can set my strength to ten, to not get a negative mod... Also, I had a questions about my background story.

I noticed that I was making up my own world, own town, kingdom, but the campaign takes place in a set world... Should I switch it over to Jalmeray? I found some information, on the island. But they only list three settlements, can I make my own, but within that region? Let me know, and I will change my back story accordingly thank you.

Background:
An elder man, standing a top a cliff, gazing off into the distance, as if in thought. The wind slightly blowing, the season being autumn, leaves of many different colors were blowing past his face, not breaking his gaze. The sun beating on his long white hair, the end of his long beard blowing with the wind, and leaves, tied at the end to keep it all together. His eyes were black, nothingness, suddenly, a young boy sitting atop his roof, watching the distant path through the fog, waiting for his father, and two brothers, Lark, Amakare, to return from their hunt, to feed their starving village. It was winter time, flog had settled around the small mountain village of Zigar... Though the night was clam, with a light snowfall. Down the path, and through patches of clear through the fog, reveled tiny glints of light. The young boy stood up, and studied the area further. He noticed these were not just glints of light, but steel. Weapons and armor of steel, glinting off the moonlight. He noticed there weren't a few men, but many. Marching in columns of three wide, lasting as far as the eye could see. The young boy jumped off the room, landing in the soft snow, and quickly ran inside. His father had taught him how to hunt, with bow and arrow, as well as a spear. He grabbed his bow, attached a quiver to his back, than headed out the door, heading toward the patch he had seen the mysterious men. The path was narrow, wide enough for three men. Alongside the path were mountain walls, and trees as tall as giants.

As he got closer to the path, he began hearing voices, and footsteps, the clinging of armor against the snow, horses trotting through the snow, carrying heavy loads. He still was not close enough to understand the words. The soldiers did not look familiar to the boy, they were not of his village, or any friendly village, or even the entire kingdom of Tibby. They were wearing purple and gold armor, the lead group carrying a banner of a Gold dragon, curled around its self, breathing fire... The background was purple. The boy was closer now, he was now right beside the path, and could now see the mens faces. He quickly looked over them, and quickly seen his father, the mayor of the village Flint. He was tied at the hands and neck by rope, to the reigns of a horse. With men shouting and hitting him in the back with the hilts of their swords. The boy silently followed. He was so concerned for his father, he did not realize they were now upon his village.

Am I headed in the right direction with this? I would love to finish it tonight, but I can not... Its 1:00am, and I work at 6:00am, I really must be going to sleep. Please let me know if this is heading in a good direction. Also, I do have plans for why my character has chosen the faction that he has. Thank you, I look forward to eharing from you.

Lantern Lodge

The majority of my character is created, and is on this website. I only need to add total weight, add skill ranks, create background story, and select traits. Please review my sheet to ensure everything is correct. My character information is in my profile, thank you.

Lantern Lodge

So I was looking at other people's campaigns, to get an idea on how their character was done. I figured, that they just filled out their profile on the website, but I am starting to think this is not the case.

I was just wondering how you set up a character sheet, for an online campaign session. Do you not set up the character until after the campaign has started, or do you just fill out your "profile" on this website? Thanks in advance.

Lantern Lodge

I created a Gnome Summoner. I just need to select my gear, and upload it to my profile on this site, and will be finished.

Lantern Lodge

If you will allow it lol. I have only ever played a Wizard, and Paladin. Interested in Samurai, and Magys, but don't have UM book yet.

Lantern Lodge

Thank you. I will have my character created tomorrow in the afternoon. Thinking of making a Samurai, or perhaps Summoner. Not sure race, but I only have CRB, APG, and UC books, thanks again.

Lantern Lodge

I will have a character up tomorrow. Thinking of creating a samurai, or cleric. I don't think a samurai really fits the setting. Thanks.

Lantern Lodge

Hi, I am interested in joining the campaign, but I am inexperienced at this game, and do not exactly know what the Pathfinder Society Guide is... Any help would be appreciated. If my lack of skill, in roleplaying, and this game in general will slow the game down, I understand, and will not be offended if I can not join.

Also, I was wondering how many available spots were remaining, as I won't have my character finished by the end of the night. Thanks guys.

Lantern Lodge

I would be interested in joining your Campaign. Though I must let you know, I am new to this type of game, and PF in general... I am in a campaign with my friends, so I do know the VERY basics of the game, and how to create my own character and things.

Not sure how to do a back story, and am not to good at RP.... I am still learning things. Also, this will be my first online campaign, so you may need to kind of let me know how it works. Thank you.

Lantern Lodge

I would imagine you would become pretty strong at the lower levels, but as you started stacking more and more, and lost on the bonuses you would have gained as a single level twenty character, you would slowly become weaker.

Lantern Lodge

Okay. Also, I was reading over my books, and for archtypes, multi classing, and prestige, there does not seem to be a limit as to how many times you can do this, so long as you meet the requirement for each class, archtype, or prestige. Is this true, but do the GM's discretion?

Lantern Lodge

Thank you.

Lantern Lodge

This is what I thought. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. :P Happy gaming.

Also was wondering. When I class into something else, do I gain their level one hit die, as well as their fort, reflex, and will save bonuses? So if my Paladin has a fort save of 7, and the Summoner gets a 2 fort save, does the new number become 9???

Plus do I gain all the class skills of a Summoner, and a Paladin?

Lantern Lodge

So I had a question about Multi Classing in Pathfinder. I am currently a level two Paladin, and was thinking of classing into a Summoner on my next level. But I had a few questions. I apologize if the answers are in the book, I do not have time to search for the answers.

1. Considering the Paladin class can wear Heavy armor, and the Summoner class can not, I was wondering if I would have to strip off armor, to meet the needs of the Summoner class, to use Summoner spells? Can I run around with heavy armor, and a martial weapon, because I am a Paladin?

2. Spells that effect level, are they based on character level, or class level?

These are all the questions I have for the time being. Thanks in advance for answering them, I appreciate it.

Lantern Lodge

Perfect, thank you. Something has come up, and I am able to afford the APG... So I will have the APG, and Ultimate Combat Guide. Thanks again.

Lantern Lodge

So instead of starting a new thread, I decided to use this one. I want to eventually have the CRB, Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Combat, Advanced Race Guide, and Advanced Players Guide.

So I went to my local game store today, had enough money for one book, and was looking to pick up the APG, but they didn't have any stock. They had the rest of the books I desired. So I what book should I get? Which one should I get, is the Advanced Players Guide required, before getting Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Magic, or Advanced Race Guide? I figured Advanced Race Guide is more a less a guide to creating characters, so it would be more logical to get the APG first... So I was leaning more towards the Ultimate Magic, or Ultimate Combat.

Considering everyone in our current campaign is melee character, so I am thinking of purchasing the Advanced Combat Guide. Can I buy this book, without having the APG book? Thanks in advance. I am standing in the store, trying to decide, so a quick answer would be helpful. Thanks in advance for your advice. I appreciate it.

Lantern Lodge

Thanks guys. I am not sure the places in the world, I am not creating the game, and its in a fantasy world, one created by the Game Master. I appreciate your help, I think I got a setting. Thanks again.

Lantern Lodge

Hello, I am playing a Human Paladin, and was interested in making a back story for my character, but I am lost as to where to start. First time playing a role playing game like this, and can't really think of any ideas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys.

Lantern Lodge

I see... Thank you guys for your input. I will play for awhile with just the "Core Rulebook", and slowly advance my game experience. :P Tanks again guys.

Lantern Lodge

AP???? I do not understand the abbreviations. :(

1. Um... there is a lot of difference between 3.5 and 4.0 and probably going to be a lot between 4.0 and 5.0 -- 2nd was more of a collection of various parts of stuff from advance all updated together and 3.0 and 3.5 was more of the sort of 'update' I think you are talking about. From what I've seen the answer is 'maybe kind of some day.' With a decent chance that there will be some fairly significant changes in the way the system works if there is such a change.

2. I recommend this Site first. Start with the Core of course -- after that I kind of recommend the game mastery guide if you are GMing and/or new to RPGs. Once you have your head around the rules and game in general I recommend the advance players guide. Once you have your head around that Ultimate magic, ultimate combat and the advance races guide shouldn't be a problem for you.

You might notice I didn't recommend the bestiaries. As much as I like them if you are on a budget those are the books you can most easily do without if you use the above website I linked (and others like it). Generally the bestiaries are great if you are stumbling around for ideas but if you know what you are after it's often easier to simply print the exact monster you need out and have it ready that way.

Thank you for the excellent reply. I am not new to the concept of Role Playing Games, but I am pretty new to table top role playing games. I play with a group of friends, that are more experienced. They played Dungeons And Dragons 3.5 and 4.0. They continually say how close 3.5 and Path Finder are, so I was wondering if Path Finder would be updating the game. Also, to kind of know when they were releasing new books. I do not want to spend all my money purchasing the books, and than a new version comes out.

Thanks for the site, I just bought the Core Rulebook during our first play session yesterday, and have been studying it to learn to play. Just was wondering what additional books I should consider. I noticed though, no one has suggested the Armory book, not sure its real name. But would anyone recommend that?

CRB, Advanced Players Guide, Ultimate Magic, and Ultimate Combat. That will set you up for a good long while.

I was planning to purchase the Armory, Advanced Race guide, and will consider purchasing the books you have mentioned. :P Thank you. Also I am still wondering, does Path Finder plan to release different versions of the game, in the same way Dungeons And Dragons does? Or was/is Path Finder kind of a one thing deal?

Lantern Lodge

So my friends and I recently started playing Path Finder. I just had a few questions about the game.

1. I was wondering if they will ever release an updated version of the game, sort of like Dungeons And Dragons with 3.5, 4.0, 5.0.

2. In order to begin playing, what books should I purchase? I know the "Core Rulebook" is required. But as additional books, what would you suggest?

I think this is all my questions for now. Thank you, I look forward to your answers. Thanks again.
