Raider/Spectre's page

The intent is that you not bypass walls/ceilings/floors without hacking the door, using a more expensive/higher level of walking through them, or shooting/slashing/breaking your way through. Rather than simply ban inubrix they left you the option to run through cover or other obstacles in an open room without having to jump over them or move around them. That's it. I personally don't care if I can phase through a desk or couch that's blocking a charge lane, so I wouldn't take this option.

If the intent is to force the player to use skills like computers(hacking) or engineering in order to give them purpose or other more expensive abilities, and not have all this solutions be totally obscured by the move through ability, then i would like to say that they did it wrong and dumb.

So as a tech, I think I can provide a common sense reason/solution to the issue; electromagnetic or magical fields interfere with the system's ability to pass through matter. Virtually all doors in Starfinder are electronically or magically operated/locked/sealed, and services get routed through walls, floors, ceilings, etc. So if a GM rules that some form of electrical or magical system is in place in the item that someone with this system attempts to pass through, they find that it is impassable. For an extra 200 credits expended, the chosen suit could be outfitted with an EMF scanner in the HUD that highlights items within 10 feet as being impassable due to electromagnetic interference. Also for 200 credits, the suit could be outfitted with a magical scanner that does the same thing. For 500 credits, a scanner that could do both can be installed.

It should give reasonable reasons to limit the move through spam and the scenarios where tech or magic are not avabiable could be solved with a simple "more than 1,5m(5feet) cave walls" etc.; so far it seems solid.

Now, if this effect is countered with an EMF or "magic field" it seems logical to assume that structures and vehicles should have it. Also kinetic damage weapons and ammo could have some sort of EMF due to magnetic materials or other reasons. Fusions could create this magic field as well.

Basically the "starwright armor inubrix" will becomes a lot less useful, maybe even useless?.

thanks for the correction, checked into the definition ( https://www.designingbuildings.co.uk/wiki/Definition_of_ceiling ) and the ceiling is tecnically a wall, anyway it appears the floor isn't ( https://www.designingbuildings.co.uk/wiki/Types_of_floor ), i wish the main problem was also so solvable.

PS. the floors of a multi-storey building? aren't they part-ceiling?

Ok, will give this a try.

1. For 24 hours you can do x ability, so yeah why not.
2. No. The ability says nothing about gaining incorporeal, so no.
3. Going on other stuff that speak about passing through, I will say no. You can move through an allied space, but can't end there style of thinking (Without special feats and such).
4. Magic? Gods? The universe? No clue.
5. Game breaking mechanics... Sucks but thats the deal.
6. If on the off chance society changes what is a wall or a door, they will FAQ a fix to reflect this choice.
7. Yes, by being thrown through them... Have you never seen a bar fight. On a serious note. Um.. No clue. As a GM I would lean both ways. The window is part of the wall so no if it breaks the story... If its cool and I like it, sure why not. I think its one of those GM calls at the time.
8. Nope, it is classed as a door. By words, you could pass through the bonnet and the ceiling or even the floor. None are walls. The boot is a door by motor industry terms (At least for my area) as a 5 door hatch back references the boot.
9.Eh, its used in a variety of tech so I think with their advanced science they understand it enough

Nothing says you can't pass through the floor or ceiling.
Also note, there is a price for getting armour with the alloy of Inubrix but no entry for it. Also no Errata that I have seen to fix it

Thanks for your reply Wesrolter, the more we go deep into this the more it appears that this is a problem left for the user to solve, honestly i don't like the quality of it and the fact that this was corrected worse via errata, the problem at hand is not solvable if not with subjective interpretation.

I would like to add more thoughts in order to gain comprehension.

1. yes it seems also to me that "at will" is the most suitable answer

2/3. if i can use at will my ability to pass through matter, how much can i keep it active? it says that as an incorporeal creature i can pass through, and why a bullet or a sword would hit me if i can pass through matter? i can interpret this as an physical invulerability which incorporeal creature have and it explain the passing through, but of course no GM would allow that.

4/5/6. the only explanation is metaknowledge by the party to comply to the rules, which is absurd but of course the other explanation are also absurd, an this is really unfortunate honestly

7. it would hurt a lot! haha! anyway yet again this goes into subjective interpretation

8. yep agreed, i would like to say that this kill a bit of "good gameplay/credibility"

9. in the end is only a bit of dust you apply to have this effect, i would like to think of successive applications, like why not a starship who could pass through matter and so on

In this particular thread i would like to ask about this specific ability the starwright has:

So, i will be honest, it was horrible but now is dumb and horrible.

1. can i use this ability at will?

2. can i be incorporeal and be immune to all physical non magical non energy damage?

3. can i stay indefinetly inside physical matter?

4. why this effect is able to identify if matter happens to be a door or a wall and denies it's effect?

5. why can i pass throug 1.5m(5feet) of steel but not 4cm(3/2inch) of wood because it's a door, but i can pass 1,5m(5feet) of wood of a tree?

6. if this effect denies itself following the dictionary definition of door and walls, if this definition changes so does the effect denial capability?

7. can i pass through windows?

8. can i still pass through a car door? if not can i pass through any other side of the car?

9. if it is so simple and accesible to pass through matters, is it a universal widespread phenomenom?
