I'm certainly not an expert on MML's mechanics ... however, in terms of mood, I think this would be a great MML setting. It seems that if you want rugged and realistic, just scale the high fantasy back a little. And I think making humans the only playable race is a nice fit; it will give your players pause when deciding their fate. "Do I really want to charge into the cave?"

As I said, I'm not an expert, but Spartan campaigns work very, very well in MML. When you throw a big beast at your players, they'll know you mean business. I think your idea is spot-on.

Oh and I just had to let you know that your artist, Ryan Pancoast is amazing! If his art is in MML then that is a big plus to me.

Nrtrandahl, thanks for the kind words. Along with the work of other artists, my work does indeed appear in the Basic Player's Rulebook, as well as in most of the current and future supplements.

MML was my first artistic experience in the fantasy genre and my first EVER introduction into gaming (Really. I learned what the hell gaming was a week before the 2007 Origins Game Expo, where MML was released.) Now, I'm a new artist with Magic: The Gathering, and it's pretty much thanks to the guys at MML.

So if you're a fan of my work, I'm only improving.

And thanks for choosing MML. You'll find that Vito and Andy (the co-authors) are extremely accessible and helpful, and will do everything they can to make your campaign a success.

Thanks for your service, and happy gaming.
