The system should be capable of coping with that though as the key thing is the username that we create when we sign up for our accounts. Irrispective of how many people there are that might want to call their character X the usernames won't be interchangable. Afterall it's not like when someone names their kid Bert that no one else can name their child Bert.

I've just tried to register a new PFS character but I keep getting a stupidly annoying message about the avatar being taken. Well I've not selected an image it's just a name for the character and it's not letting me put the name in and use it. I just want to set it up so the session can be recorded properly by the GM.

Hey guys.

Sorry for the scare.

Brain weasel take most of the blame, but epic fail on my part too.

I have hours and hours ahead of me this weekend, so I should get things into shape for play.

Thank you for your patience.

Regards,
Ben

I find flicking peas at Wintergreen to be a good way to deal with brain weasels ;)

Can I now take this opportunity to register my interest in this game?

Hmmm.......now do I post to say I'm interested or just plot to flick peas at you as you play...... ;)

Just a quick update, thanks again for these links. I've since had a look at them and have put them up in the group. Thanks again :)

Oh, and one last quick thing, I chose 'Neurodiverse' for part of the name because it was a nice umbrella word that encapsulated a significant part of the group I was aiming at. I'm personally quite happy with the tag of Dyslexic/Specific Learning Difficulties as it does accurately describe the areas where I need the most support with this sort of thing.

Thanks for the links, I'll try and check them out later.....I'm ment to be getting ready for work right now.

Just so people know why I've focused the group the way I have I wanted to set it up in such a way that we can actually do something to effectively support the members, hense a specific focus. If there's the odd person that doesn't quite fit that but is wanting someone thats friendly to their needs and geeky I'm happy to make a few exceptions. What would be really great though is if there was enough interest from people with a different flavour of need getting together and making a similar group. Clearly my group is very young and still in the initial stages, but I'd be more than happy to help and work out what we can do across the spectrum of needs as there will always inevitably be some manner of cross over for some individuals.

Does this include depression and anxiety issues? Because I am disabled and unable to work anymore as they are part of the disabilities I have (the others are physical).

Yes, deffinately. We already have a couple of members whose main need is that under the mental health umbrella. The focus of the group is on primarily supporting people with the things I outlined in my OP but I'd like to think we'd try and support the whole memeber as much as possible even if only some of their needs are what the group is for. So as I said we might not be as able to help with physical things as well but we'll do our best :)

Send a join request and drop me a PM :)

Despite belonging to a target member of this group, I, personally, was hoping that this was for people with invisible disabilities. But that's probably just me. :)

I was hoping this was really for people with invisible disabilities, but I see that it's limited to only those people with mental health or neurodiversity issues.

The term you've chosen to describe your group includes people with heart conditions, chronic diseases, and other "invisible" disabilities, but it doesn't sound like that's what you actually meant.

Dyslexia and all the other forms of neurodiversity ARE invisible disabilities, yes I chose to focus on that in the group as it's an area close to home for me. For the title of this thread I went with a word that was more likely to be understood more readily.

Given that I've just given a blind person, who is probably neurotypical, the green light in joining us then it's not like I'm unwilling to accommodate other players of Pathfinder if they are needing some support but there isn't a similar group for them.

I don't have any of that sort of disability, but I am blind and a gamer, can I also join?

If you've not found another group that you can get some support from and fancy joining in our squeeing and getting geeky then I'll allow it. I can't promise that we will be able to help you in quite the same way as we could for general membership. Personally through work I've got a little experience of supporting people with visual impairements so I'd be happy to brainstorm some things with you in the group or privately at any point. Also our pet able person would be happy to offer some help too.

So feel free to hit join and drop me a quick message so I know it's you :)

Also a general note to people, it is just me as a lone admin at the moment and it's past bedtime here so I'll not be online for much longer this evening. So any questions posted here or via facebook will be answered when I can tomorrow.

So I made a facebook group, it might not be for everyone but I figured I'd share it here and those that are interested can join.

It's aimed at neurodiverse people, so this means people that are Dyslexic/ASD/related cognitive difficulties, it's also open to those that have or are dealing with mental health issues.

The aim of the group is to have somewhere that we can geek out and get excited about all things geek/gamer, share coping strategies for dealing with challenging situations around games/conventions. It's membership is small at the moment but hopefully as it grows we can build it into a friendly and supportive group where we can mix geeking out and talking about other issues that are relavent to us in a positive environment.

Group membership is approved by admins, you'll need to message one and you'll have a quick chat where you can ask any questions before joining. It'll give you the chance to see if the group is for you and us to find out a little about you. It's open to all ages, I'm asking that we avoid excessive swearing and other adult content but there may be some, so if a prospective member is under 16 they will need a parent/guardian to join up with them.

Aside from the odd parent/guardian we will also have some other neurotypical members for support purposes, they will be limited to invite only and they are there to help support members with concerns about conventions. I also intend, if the needs of a group member change for the worse, to allow a partner/best friend into the group to help support them.

I do have other ideas about what I'd like to do, I'm hoping that between us the membership can be proactive and get some help/adivce sheets that we can give to GMs and convention organisers on how to support others with the same needs as us. As well as a possible parallel group that can be used more effectively as a safer environment if any member is feeling in crisis. As well as potentially opening the group up to a wider spread of geeky types (it's currently just Pathfinder) and maybe looking at helping memebers finding convention buddies or similar support.

The link for the group is here: Neurodiverse Pathfinders

I guess with all this I should say a little more about me, since this is actually my first time posting on the boards!! I'm a long time geek and have larped a lot longer than I've done table top, I've been playing PFS for about 3 years and it seems to have lead to me becoming the registered keeper of a boygeek (he's more active here than me)! And as you may have guessed I kinda like star wars a little, in fact when I signed up I was surprised no one else had taken it!!

Anyway, I need to go as it's very late here in the UK and I'm still only half way through my tea (I bet that will confused some of you ;) ).
