Male Human Conjurer 6

Knowledge:Local 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

"Very well, we depart on the morrow."

Male Human Conjurer 6

"Hmm, the Darkblades again. Well, at least we're not making new enemies. I accept." He grins his gap toothed smile.

Male Human Conjurer 6

"Many thanks. And what of this other important task you mentioned? I am currently in a position of availability."

Male Human Conjurer 6

"You are most generous and I have always wished to understand more of the gods and their creations. I request a Headband of Vast Intelligence that would grant me this Knowledge of the Religions, and a Pearl of Power, not unlike my own, but which would enable the recasting of one of my least powerful spells."

Male Human Conjurer 6

"Hmm. What very coincidental timing. Perhaps even a motive?"

Male Human Conjurer 6

"And you've never heard of this witch he claims recruited him? Or Roshnuu, his dragonish companion? If you have no enemies that would attempt this, then the ring itself must have some secret purpose that we do not know. Though maybe you might?"

Male Human Conjurer 6

"Of course we have it and we are delighted to return it. And you have no idea why it was stolen by some dark, deceived creature that was unable to use it? For whomever sent him may try again, for whatever purposes, and you yourself may be in danger."

Male Human Conjurer 6

I'm up for that. We return.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Welcome back. :)

Male Human Conjurer 6

Ulvak can wish first. Quayne is probably going to wish for Craft Arms and Armour, lacking any better ideas :-)

Male Human Conjurer 6

Another option may be to roll your two games into one. :-)

Male Human Conjurer 6

I'm in favour of twelving, to both do the job and move the plot along.

Male Human Conjurer 6

We find a suitable resting place that provides some cover, and as usual Quayne makes himself comfortable and nods off to sleep. After the first watch, he awakens bright and refreshed thanks to his ring, and he stays awake for the rest of the night, watching over his companions, while occasionally murmuring to Gartha and sending her out to silently scout the area.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Quayne looks up from the lecture on cantrips he appears to be delivering to Gartha.
"Careful. There may be others."

Giant:
"Greetings traveller. We are powerful warriors for hire. Where can we find work?"
Bluff: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

"Uh oh. Did I use the word for traveller, or weakling?" mutters Quayne taking a step back.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Quayne breaks his contact with Raderol and turns to the others.

"Indeed. I think we should return to the Twelve and see what our employers have to say. If no one wishes to interrogate Raderol further we should depart for there."

Male Human Conjurer 6

Kyber Shaden, Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
Mournivel, Reaper of a Thousand Souls, Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (3) + 14 = 17

"Actually, Raeli, designing magic that differentiates... reads the user, is very hard. It cuts both ways, though. Evil wizards cannot stop their items being used by good people either." Quayne gestures at Vaelins and his newly acquired Amulet of Natural Armour +2.

"Raderol. Where was the field where you found the essence gem of your Consial? And where might we find this witch who tricked you into doing her dirty work?"

Male Human Conjurer 6

"And where and when were you intending to meet this witch?"

Male Human Conjurer 6

Greetings all. Back for more fun and frivolity. :-)

:-D avid

Male Human Conjurer 6

Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21

"A spell of Monster Charming or a magical Suggestion may change his mind."
Quayne looks around and shrugs apologetically.
"I am afraid my affinity for enchantments is somewhat lacking."

Male Human Conjurer 6

Hi all,

I'm off to Vietnam for 2 weeks. Will try and check in daily, but have no idea what access is like there. It's supposed to be okay where I'm heading, but figured I'd give a heads up anyways, just in case. Will find out in the next few days. :-D avid

Male Human Conjurer 6

"Very well."
Quayne passes his hands twice over the gem and begins to mumble, then looks at Kiralinsee. Suddenly, he sweeps his arms wide, passing them back and forth about the gem and calls loudly in a garbled tongue. There is a bright flash of purple light, that sparkles, swirls and slowly fades away with a tinkling sound. He grins at Kiralinsee, then turns back to the gem.

"Greetings, Raderol. My companions and I wish to know who you are working for."

Male Human Conjurer 6

"I have yet to address our troublesome sociopath, but if the containment energies incarcerating him are contiguous with those enveloping my own Pearl then by refracting the topological subliminal emanations externally through a reverberating phonic demiplane we should simultaneously all be able to communicate with him."

Quayne looks around, pleased, until he thinks for a moment over what he has said.

"I mean, with a cantrip we may all address him at once." Quayne smiles again with but with a worried look on his face.

Yeah, sorry about taking up so much game time. I hadn't expected this interaction to come so early in the game, and I am indulging a bit :).

It hasn't been too long. The raven isn't back yet. :-)

Male Human Conjurer 6

Of course we can't police whether PCs read spoilers. But *assuming* they read spoilers is dangerous if they aren't. If a PC does something that directly ruins your spoiler which you assume they've just read, that will create friction. Without that assumption, maybe they were roleplaying, or maybe they were metagaming- one hopes the former.
My preferences are for not reading spoilers but largely I think that's irrelevant.

If we assume everyone reads spoilers, everyone *should* read spoilers so they don't miss something.
If we assume everyone does not read spoilers, writers must *not* put information in them that they want everyone to know.

If we don't have an agreement, misunderstandings are likely to occur, and the less misunderstandings in this format, the better for everyone. :-)

Male Human Conjurer 6

Regarding spoilers- I am not fussed one way or the other.
However, if everyone is going to read them, then what is their point?
I assumed they were there to allow knowledge to be kept from other PCs for reason of story, logic, language and roleplaying. I expect guests and GMs to read them all.
As a player, I try to avoid reading spoilers that don't apply to me. After all, if they wanted me to know, they wouldn't go to the trouble of spoilering it.
Anyone who spoilers something then assumes I know what is going on may suddenly find my PC very unhelpful, because I genuinely won't know what's going on.
If people want to discuss non-story stuff, I figure it goes here.
That's my belief, but I will happily slide into however the majority of the party wishes to play things.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Quayne rummages through his equipment and pulls out a single round pearl. He waves his hand over and about it, and it begins to glow a strange bluish colour. Quayne focuses intently on it for a while and the blue fades to a dull orange, then vanishes. He frown and turns it over in his hands a few times. He looks over at Vaelins with the Essence Gem, then passes his hand round the pearl again. It flashes white and returns to normal and Quayne smiles to himself.
"Hmm. I'll have to try that," he mutters quietly, then returns the pearl to the depths of his robes.

DM:
Thanks. I'll be sure to remember this when I get my hands on the gem. Is Vaelins still around?

Male Human Conjurer 6

:-D

Male Human Conjurer 6

"I can hear what they're saying."
"Well I do not possess your senses and am unable, as was the intent of Miss Raeli.
"Shall I tell you?"
"What?! NO!! Look, could you fly off in the opposite direction and see how the Vedic guards are going? Follow them for, say... fifteen minutes and report back to me."
"But then I can't hear what they're saying."
"So my orders possess two desired outcomes. Now, go."

Gartha takes to the sky, mumbling something quietly.
"My human ears are not that deficient. Mind your language."
The raven wheels once then flies off into the distance.

Male Human Conjurer 6

"I do not believe that Raderol wants the ring for himself. I am of the opinion that he works for another, and I doubt the Darkblades would approve of independent contractors within their midst. If he fears anything, it shall be the Darkblades and mayhaps his current employer."
"So we still need to ask him for whom he was working, why that individual (or group thereof) desire the ring and why he didn't use it. I suspect his employer would have been upset at the prospect of having to wait a week to use the ring. Or it has other powers of which we possess no knowledge. Behold, another question to pose."
"And as to his failure to elude us, he may well have succeeded had it not been for the amazing abilities of Miss Raeli. But instead of underestimating the sublime skills of Miss Raeli, he could have made it impossible for us to follow him and it befalls us to question why he did not."
"Shall I ask these questions, or does someone else wish to put these forward to our fickle detainee?"

Male Human Conjurer 6

Quayne looks around at Raeli, Ulvak and Vaelins in stunned silence, then clears his throat.
"I was never that smart when I was eight. Brightness be, even at fifteen I only thought I was that smart."
"So what have you been discussing with our prisoner?"

Male Human Conjurer 6

It appears as if we are heading back to Korth.

Quayne systematically unpacks his Handy Haversack, setting aside the papers and equipment from the fallen Vedic regulars, and their Captain.

We are sorry we did not arrive soon enough to aid them. But they did allow us to catch Raderol after weeks of pursuit.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Quayne watches as Gartha dives upon a hapless worm.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Quayne Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Gartha Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Quayne has no spells cast and usually waits till noon before casting his mage armor.

"More bodies like yesterday, only these aren't ripe yet."
Quayne rolls his eyes. "You will be silent, little one. The last thing we need will be your help to explain these events."
Quayne takes few steps back, unsure who should do the talking.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Quayne looks quizzically at Ulvak.
"The War of the Mark? From millennia ago? How old are you?"

Male Human Conjurer 6

"Well, since Raderol appears to be travelling with us, we shall have plenty of time to ask more questions of him. I do ask you all to be careful though, until I have taken that gem to a laboratory and studied it properly. If he is in there now, he may be able to get out later. It may not be likely, but until we know what conditions must be met for such an unhappy event to occur it will be best to remember that our bodies are merely receptacles. It would be a tragedy if one of ours was misappropriated."

Male Human Conjurer 6

"How very unpleasant," remarks Quayne as he packs up the camp. "I find it disturbing that such a powerful creature runs a mercenary company, though I figure it does so merely for the perks. Hopefully the true talents of it lie wasted, but sadly I suspect there are greater things at work. Perhaps Silven can shed more light on the shadows when we return to the Twelve with his ring."
He shoulders his backpack and turns towards Vedykar.

Male Human Conjurer 6

"Limited wishes, like all wishes, are tricky things, and they are all different. On average, a limited wish will duplicate any arcane spells from the sixth circle, or holy magic within the fifth circle. Reading the future is always tricky, as is changing the past. Possibly, you could dominate a creature, force it to reveal all it knows, mark it for justice or merely curse it. There are few limits except the greed and imagination of an individual, and rarely does one realise these limits until one crosses them and they must deal with the consequences."

Male Human Conjurer 6

When Quayne is awakened by Raeli, he notices he has a strange craving for blueberries. He bids her goodnight, and watches until dawn, reading, wandering the campsite, collecting possible components and murmuring quietly to Gartha.
As the others awaken with the dawn, he settles down and studies his spells.

In response to Ulvak's plans Quayne agrees.
"We should return those items to Vedykar and let the barracks know. There are families they will have to notify. We should also chat to Raderol and see if he can tell us who he is working for and why he stole the ring. Though the ring is powerful, and a limited wish could even let you commune with the gods, Raeli, I suspect there is more to this than mere theft. Unless Raeli or Vaelins can tell us something."

Male Human Conjurer 6

Snores quietly.

Male Human Conjurer 6

With a single flap of wings, Gartha swoops down to the blueberries without awaking Quayne. The crow glances sidelong at Kiralinsee, pecks at the blueberries and in a moment they're all gone. She skitters back to where Quayne lies, then stops, looks warily at Kiralinsee and walks slowly back towards her.
Thank you.
Then with another flap of her wings, she alights on Quayne once more, who mumbles something in his sleep.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Wow, that filled up stupidly fast. Guess that saves me from having to make a tough decision. Good luck and don't forget to visit our game if you get the time. :-)

Male Human Conjurer 6

Hmm, thank you muchly for the invite. Will check out the class and race outlines tomorrow, but unless something really grips me, I'll probably pass since I'm suddenly in 2 PBP games already. :-)

Though it is about time I moved on from wizards again... :-)

Male Human Conjurer 6

"Fate, prophecy, destiny: surely what it does to us is nowhere near as important as what we do to it."
Quayne sweeps the pirate hat back from his head and it falls away to become the hood of his cloak again and he appears once more as the short, dark, elegant man you have travelled so far with.
"Thank you all. I shall turn in for the night. Well, a few hours anyway for that is all I need." Quayne points to a ring on his finger which appears to be made of gold, silver and copper braided together.
"I traded a few of my hats for this and found it very useful to prepare for some of my exams at the Twelve. Wake me after the first watch and I shall watch the rest of the night."
Quayne settles on his side, facing the fire, and soon his chest rises and falls slowly as he dreams of sailing the skies in a ship that crashes over billowing clouds and surges along the streams and currents of the air itself.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Quayne pulls his hood over his head and appears to shimmer. A moment later Quayne sits before you wearing a black pirate hat complete with a white skull and crossbones. His robes are gone, replaced by tan pants, white shirt with emerald green vest and a great black overcoat that hangs down to his knees. One leg is clad in a many silver-buckled boot that rises above his knee, while the other leg ends in a wooden peg. The sleek black raven on his shoulder is now a colourful parrot adorned with feathers of red and green, shaking its head slowly. His short curly hair is still pitch black, but now hangs in long dreadlocks across his shoulders and thick stubble graces his dark brown cheeks and chin. An eye patch covers his left eye but there is a familiar golden orange twinkle in his visible right eye. The perfect smile minus the single tooth is unmistakably that of both Quayne and a seasoned pirate. He raises a wrist ending in a hook and touches his hat to Kiralinsee.
"Better? I made it myself."
Gartha squawks indignantly. You don't have to include me in your illusion.
Quayne turns to Ulvak.
"My mother could undoubtedly use the help of House Lyrandar, assuming they are not already involved for or against her. But why would they even notice her, let alone help? I have heard they are more interested in the incursions of House Thuranni into Lhazaar. That said, taking an airship into Lhazaar would certainly be a show of power that would get you taken seriously, though as Vaelins reports it could also attract unwanted attention."

Male Human Conjurer 6

"The knowledge I seek is..." Quayne thinks carefully.
"No doubt as a skilled hunter you may be able to find my target. I would certainly be grateful for your help. But I am not certain of the situation at all."
"You see, I am a pirate. I doubt you have heard of Prince Thierra Dovarr. She commands a fleet of just three ships and has a small principality off the coast of Cliffscrape just south of the Hoarfrost Mountains. She is a proud and strong woman, clever and cunning, sharp as the cry of a gull and as relentless as the waves on the shore. She is my mother."
"For those of you not familiar with the Lhazaar Principalities, I am not a prince. Any and every two bit ruler that can sail a ship and hold a piece of rock declares themselves a prince in Lhazaar and most of them are dragged under the waves every time the tide changes. While my mother has held and expanded her lands for over three decades, she is by no means powerful. She has held her lands together through careful diplomacy, cunning alliances and force of will. She has been navigating an ever changing ocean of treachery and deceit, and until recently has kept her sails full and the wind at her back. But she is a very small fish in a very big pond and, despite her abilities, something has happened."
"What that may be, I do not know. What I do know is that her letters to me, and the money for my studies, have ceased. I do not have the finances to return, and have no idea what I could do if I did. I am not one for intrigue, and I know not the balances and sway of the powers involved. She could be in hiding, or imprisoned, or..." Quayne looks away.
"I fear if I were to return unprepared, I may make things worse. But I know not what preparations to make. Apart from needing a ship, for if one thing never changes in Lhazaar, it is the need for transport, offence, home and fortification in the one place, and for that place to be mobile enough to escape from and to hunt down your enemies."
"So, I guess I was wrong when I said I also sought *a* knowledge. I was thinking to know the whereabouts of my mother, but that is only a single piece of the puzzle, and becomes useless if she moves before I get there."
"Thank you for listening to my tale and for your patience. It has weighed upon me a while and I feel the better for having told it. Before it filled my mind and dragged at me with its sheer immensity. Now that it has been reduced to words it seems more managable somehow. Thank you."
Quayne looks expectantly at Raeli, and does not ask her to reciprocate.
:-D

Male Human Conjurer 6

"Ah, Miss Raeli, I too am a seeker of knowledge. This is but one of many reasons why the arcane arts called to me, or in some cases, grabbed me and tore me from my home. But knowledge of what? There are stories that even Aureon does not know everything. Were I to content myself with the knowledge of magic, it has many schools and I could not possibly hope to know them all. Even should I content myself with further knowledge of Elemental Binding, I learn of planes beyond our own, creatures of earth and fire, wind and water; their abilities and languages, their habits and habitats."
"What you seek is *a* knowledge. But beware the destination reached without a journey... ooh, that does sound deep."
"Sorry, I did not mean to lecture. I also seek a knowledge, but I fear it will do me no good just yet. And things are ever changing."
Quayne gazes into the distant east, a troubled look on his brow and a breeze flaps at his robes. The wind through the trees sounds like the wash of the ocean and the clouds above scutter by as a lone bird wheels overhead with a single cry. Gartha caws loudly back, startling Quayne.
"Hush, you meddlesome creature. Anyway, I shall sleep during the first watch and remain awake the rest of the night. I am used to taking my sleep where I can."
The almost perfect white smile returns to his face as quickly as it left.

Male Human Conjurer 6

Quayne has a Ring of Sustenance and requires only 2 hours sleep. While prepared to do the bulk of guard duty, the more company, the better. As for limited wish, what are its limits? I'm looking at duplicating a permanancy spell, but if that's all it does I'll need extra cash and maybe even the spell to be made permanent.

Male Human Conjurer 6

"We are off to Vedykar to return the possessions of these fallen soldiers. We might also use the Limited Wish tonight. Then we can use it again next week. Any requests, my friends? What do you wish for? Let us discuss this as we travel."

Male Human Conjurer 6

"It took us six weeks to get here. If it takes us five weeks to return, that is one limited wish each. But before we head back, I think we should head on to Vedykar and return the equipment of the soldiers. I would also like to be as far from this place as possible by this evening, both for the slaughter that occurred here and the possibility of the return of Roshnuu."

Male Human Conjurer 6

Quayne flashes his perfect white smile with a single missing tooth.

"Whether I made it up, or based it on my extensive knowledge of conjuring, summoning and binding extraplanar creatures, the point remains that it will take some time and magic before I can finally conclude that I do not know."

Burn bodies, head back, play with ring and gem. I think we're waiting on our gallant GM.
