Quacraybool grew up wandering off and on with one or the other parent (and sometimes both) around the Inner Sea. When his family settled temporarily in a place, Augustana was the city. Their extended family owned a tenement. The population of the building ebbed and flowed at any given time as cousins, grandparents, siblings, and children came to Augustana.
Quacraybool had nimble fingers, soft footfalls, more curiosity than his three older brothers combined, and loved “put-pocketing” as he called it -- putting a small token or trifle into an unsuspecting person’s pocket. Nowadays it is more of a “secret trade” between him and a person who catches his eye.
One of his main obsessions is fabric. He loves the different textures, patterns, and materials. He designs and makes coats, vests, breeches, and shirts. Sometimes as a joke he will purposefully make weak stitches so that pants will rip when a person bends over or a sleeve will rip at the shoulder if pulled forcefully. Wooden matchsticks (fortified with a little magic) make a cubic framework that he fits with square pieces of cloth in various configurations and patterns. Sometimes he will leave part of the frame work visible so the inside cubes can be seen.
Uncle Diblan is a milliner who specializes in rare plumage. Uncle Merstrite is an explorer in the Mwangi Expanse who finds and ships feathers to Uncle Diblan. Unfortunately months have passed without any feathers or messages. Diblan convinced Quarcraybool to travel to Sargava with a map of the region to find out what happened to Uncle Merstrite. At best he is merely lost. At worst...Uncle Diblan told Quacraybool not to think about that. Fearing he would spend the fare on fabric, Uncle Diblan arranged for Quacraybool to board the Jenivere at Pezzack.
