How would you handle someone falling onto Caltrops, or more specificly being Tripped(Combat Maneuver) while in a square filled with Caltrops?

Are there any official rules for this scenario? If not, do any of you have House rules for it? I can think of plenty of ways to handle it, but I'd like some feedback on ways to handle it.


"24 hours for the creature to reform , during which time it cant be summoned again."

So wait a sec, this means that at say, 1st level, you can only summon a dog once per day, and if you cast Summon Monster 1 again, it has to be a different creature?


What happens to creatures summoned from Summoning Spells after they are killed? Do they disappear or do they stay where they lay?


The Eidolon can speak any languages the player character can, so yes, it can alert anyone who can understand the language it is speaking.

No, the augmented summoning feat does not work for the Eidolon. Augmented Summoning only works for things summoned via a "Summon Spell" such as Summon Monster. The Eidolon is summoned via a One Minute Ritual, which is not considered a spell.


Hey thanks! The book wasn't with me at the moment and i simply looked up the prone condition in the PFsrd and didn't see the bit about any penalties to AC also effecting the CMD.


How do you handle Combat Maneuvers against someone who is prone? Someone who is prone gets a -4 to AC against melee attacks, and a Combat Maneuver is considered a melee attack but AC is not part of the CMD.

So, what do you do if say, your attempting to Disarm, or Grapple someone who is prone? Would you simply take the -4 off his total CMD, or perhaps add +4 to the CMB of the person attempting the maneuver against the prone victim?

Am i missing something in the rules that explains this situation

I just want to make sure I get this correct, because I can see this leading to some confusion. Here's there description

Trip (Ex): An eidolon becomes adept at knocking foes to the ground with its bite, granting it a trip attack. Whenever the eidolon makes a successful bite attack of the selected type, it can attempt a free combat maneuver check. If successful, the target is knocked prone. If the check fails, the eidolon is not tripped in return. This ability only works on creatures of a size equal to or smaller than the eidolon. The eidolon must possess the bite evolution to select this evolution.

My first question was "does this free combat maneuver provoke an attack of opportunity. I checked the Beasiary and found my answer to this one. The Beastiary states,

"Trip (Ex)

A creature with the trip special attack can attempt to trip its opponent as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity if it hits with the specified attack. If the attempt fails, the creature is not tripped in return.

Format: trip (bite); Location: individual attacks.

So, no, it does not provoke and Attack of opportunity, at least going by the Beastiary rules.

My other question is this, do you deal damage with the initial bite attack. Logic would dictate yes(the creature attacks, SUCCESSFULLY bites and deals damage) then gets a free attempt to trip. The wording in the description implies the same thing, but does not specifically say as much. Your not "replacing your normal attack with a combat maneuver check", as a normal character would, your supplementing your SUCCESSFUL attack.

I believe I'm getting these two questions correct, but i want to double check.


My friends and I have never used the confirm critical rule. We simply find it more fun to play the good ol' classic way. However, it did occur to me that Confirm Critical might be useful to make medium and heavy armor more relevant. My very quick idea basically breaks down like this..

Light Armor---Critical Hit does not need to be confirmed

Medium Armor---Standard Critical hit confirmation rule

Heavy Armor--- Standard Critical hit confirmation, plus a minus to the confirm role equal to half(rounded UP) the armors bonus. So, say you get a 20 against someone wearing Half Plate, your Confirm Critical Role would be at a -4, since Half Plate grants a +8

I haven't put much thought into this at all, but it seems like it could be a nice little addition to help out the the Medium and Heavy Armors and give one more incentive to wear them.

We're starting something new soon, and we might try it out. Thoughts anyone?
