SO my players are about 2/3 done RRR and I have been re-reading book 3 (I read the whole AP back almost 2 years ago when we first started the campaign - oh for the days when i could play twice a week! once a month sucks! :) ). Aside from a very few points (getting a peace treaty with the centaurs, adding Varnhold to your kingdom) this seems like a 'filler' module with little to link it to the overarching metaplot of the fey. The main villain (the cyclops) is completely unconnected to Narrisa (the super fey chick villain) and, for me, the whole adventure seems pretty flat and uninspiring. I'm to the point where I'll likely replace huge swaths of this one with my own creation as I have added in several plot hooks the party is interested in specific to the setting I am running KM in (Scarred Lands). Does anyone else feel this way about VHV? What were the solutions you came up with to continue using the adventure as written or what did you add to it?
So we've been playing Kingmaker for about a year now and have been in the second part for a little over 3 months (about 5 sessions). The players have built up their kingdom quite a bit through expansion of territory rather than building up the capital but I have now seen some of the problems with that and are embarking on an ambitious expansion program in the capital itself (it also provided me an excellent way to introduce 3 NPCs from the Scarred Lands books that are going to make life very interesting for them :O) ). We have, however, hit a snag. The PCs haven't really gone adventuring for a long time now. Since the initial quelling of the bandits and death of the Stag Lord the PCs (re: players) have focused 100% of their energies on management of their new kingdom. They are involving themselves in a lot of aspects that are pretty far outside the purview of the adventure itself. This reached a head today when the Baron of the nation (a cleric) was killed by the werewolf with a rather fortunate crit from his great axe (and I mean killed outright - full hp to -CON in a single hit!!). The player (m y oldest friend) was completely cool about it though - he took over Jhod Kavken for the remainder of the session until a raise spell could be arranged. this lead to them deciding on a manner of trial by council members for those accused of capital crimes - it's pretty complex and was rather surprising to me as the whole group is quite involved! They first conducted the trail of a man accused of murder some months previous (a home made encounter) and found him guilty but the death sentence was reduced to 20 years hard labour. The planning of this trial and what form it would take took up 3 hours of a 6 hour session!! I think I've managed to turn a Dungeons & Dragons game into Lawyers & Litigation!!
Just a random question - are natural disasters taken into account in the kingdom rules? I ask because where I've got the campaign going (in the Scarred Lands setting) is in an area known for its violent windstorms, drought and flooding. I'm thinking I should work up a model of weather typical of the region and hit the area with some powerful storms or a year or two of terrible crops. This is all for the future though - my group is just wrapping up Book 1 (hopefully this weekend!)
Are there any feats or other abilities that increase a Monk's unarmed damage? One of my players really thinks she saw a feat (90% sure it was a feat) that would increase a Monk's unarmed damage die by one 'step' (i.e. 1d6 to 1d8). Anyone seen anything like this? A book or srd citation would be great - thanks!
Is there anywhere I can get the artwork from the APs (specifically Kingmaker) in an electronic form? WotC once, many moons ago, had tons of their artwork up for grabs from most of their 3E library. I mainly want it to print out for index cards I can photocopy the stuff but I was hoping for something easier that I can print out at home.
Has anyone gone about converting the Critical hit Deck to the 4E ruleset? i figured the easiest part would be any double or triple damage means an extra die of whatever weapon/implement you are using for the attack (ie a Magic Missile would do max damage + 1d4, a longsword max +1d8) with high crit weapons getting that (as normal) plus 2 draws from the deck and choose one. What has me a little daunted are the effects that come with many of the cards. I figured anything that has a variable duration (1d4 rds etc) lasts until a successful save. Fortunately a lot of the other effects (blind, deafened etc) are the same. Some things, like stun, are pretty powerful in 4E so i think they would be changed to dazed or somesuch. Any thoughts? I always loved the 'swingyness' of the deck and used it a lot during the 3E era.
I placed this order yesterday but today I got an email saying I was being credited for some damaged merchandise I recieved (basically I got a battlemat that was improperly packaged and the sweet, kind, generous folks at paizo gave me a store credit for it and told me to keep the damaged mat!). If possible I would like to put a hold on this order # 666535 until such time as the credit shows up in my account and then make one big order. Is this possible?
My friend is starting a game of D&D this Saturday and just called to ask me if I've ever played Shackled City! Even though I have a few of the Dungeon magazines I've never actually read it so I told him no. That means our group is going to be going through it! Yeehaw! I'm really excited about this. Now I have to leave this forum never to return least I be tempted into spoliers ;-)
So last night, playing until 1am, I made a mistake (as DM) that resulted in a character's death. I'd like opinons on the situation: (5 PCs fighting a Rust Dragon, one PC down at this point) PC 1 starts the round with 11HP and is hit by 2 claws and a bite. PC 1 takes 13 points of damage from the 2 claws (6 & 7 respectively) and is reduced to -2. The bite did 12 more points of damage bringing him to -14. Would not the Rust Dragon, being the smart cookie that it is, have directed its bite attack at the heavily armoured foe with the greatsword standing 10' away? Would you (as I did) have the dragon then hit an already disabled target with it's bite. I have always ruled that people are able to change their targets with the first target drops from a hit. Should, would you, retcon this to say the character lives? Comments please!
Hi. I've not been part of this community for long but I've read quite a bit of the post on here and figure you guys might be able to help me. I'll try to be brief. My gaming group has becoem increasingly hostile as of late. People arguing with one another over anything from politics to game rules to the 'crappiness' of character current and past. Last session went poorly as one of the players, after his character was knocked out in a battle, went into the living room to sulk for 2 hours. Another player yelled across the table at my wife about her 'crazy' idea to have the PCs enter a swamp to rescue some hostages. He was visiblity angry and while you could say it was 'role playing' this player is like this all the time now. Shouting down others and belittling poeple constantly (except me - I'm the DM). This has been going on, slowly escalating, for months now. I've brought this up in the past when things seem to get sour and it impoved - slightly. Things are now worse than ever (the angry player and sulky one will completely 'zone out' if the game isn't focused on them - to the point that one has this loud, irritating fake yawn he use 3 or 4 times in a row). I do not want to boot them but beyond smashing the group and forgetting about it I really don't know what to do. Any advice would be helpful. I know I have to talk to them but I am completely at a loss as to what to say. Both of them can be, surprisingly, very sensitive to criticism. |
