Cara will check the concession booths.

Is this a secret check?

Once again, car pummels him with a pyrotechnic burst. She then flutters over to the top of a different booth.

Caine is up

Thank you. The first one was two actions, so it would be 2d8

damage: 2d8 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10

Cara will hurl a couple of exploding balls of fire like last time. The fist one blasts too soon, but the next hits the guy full in the face.

I expect by my action there will only be one target.

elemental blast, 2a, ranged, bludgeoning, agile, nonlethal: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 7 - 2 = 14

elemental blast, 1a, ranged, bludgeoning, agile, nonlethal: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 3 - 2 = 21

Critical nonlethal damage: 2d6 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4

From the top of the booth, Cara gathers a small ball of fire and tosses it at one of the raging drunks. But instead of hitting him directly, she is detonating it over his head to hit him with the shock. Her second blast detonates too early.

using weapon infusion to turn th damage into bludgeoning and then taking the -2 for nonlethal.

elemental blast, 2a, ranged, bludgeoning, agile, nonlethal: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 - 2 = 18

elemental blast, 1a, ranged, bludgeoning, agile, nonlethal: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 - 2 = 4

Cara flutters out to the top of a nearby booth. "If you don't calm down and leave them alone, I'm going to get upset." She punctuates this by drawing a skull in fire above her. A ten foot tall skull.

"Oh, my, that was certainly exciting!" exclaims the Princess broadly to the audience. "But it pales in comparison to the wonders yet to be revealed on the stage. Please sit and relax and enjoy the rest of the show."

diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Cara realizes that there is no going back and releases a ribbon of flame over it. If the audience has to see death at the circus, it should at least be flashy.

Obviously her heart isn't into it.

I thought that as a tiny character it wouldn't be enough to crush it. If it would be too heavy, then I would land to the side.

Cara will Flutter down and attempt to land on the bucket over one of the snakes.

Acrobatics seems the closest to what I'm thinking of.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18

init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

She looks to find such a bucket. If she finds one, then she'll grab it and get ready to cover them with the bucket.

Cara slides down one of the ropes to a point over the snakes.
What size category are they? Could the be caught in a popcorn bucket?

acrobatics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Cara takes to the sky to see if she can see the snakes from above, grabbing onto one of the tent poles for get a clear view.

The princess flitters out with glowing wings and begins to dance with a tendril of fire wrapping around her. A few people may notice a glint in her eyes as she spins and cavorts.

performance: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

The Princess bows toward Caine, and a line of flame surrounds him with a glowing heart for a few seconds. While he was primarily a dancer, he did have a voice that could go from a smooth soft purr to a roar that would knock the popcorn out of the back row.

You have been volunteered. ^_^

1) upgrading Circus Lore
2) Dance Lore
3) Starstone Isles Lore - gotta know your customers.

When we roll for our performances, will we be using these lores with int, or can we use a different stat that feels more appropriate? I expect that Cha or Dex will be more appropriate at times.

And a note about ancestral paragon. You should look to see if they have enough feats that fit your character as they go up. Some ancestries are a little thin, so you should really consider going with a versatile heritage to fill out the options.

Circumstance bonuses are much less common that status bonuses. Most spells grant status, but circumstance is less common.

One of my bucket list character concepts--that I decided to continue to save for a different style game--is a vishkanya forensic medicine investigator, if you want to steal that idea. Devise a Stratagem lets you make sure you never waste your poison by letting you see your roll, poison, and then use the roll to strike.

I'd suggest medic on that. With two different bonuses to battle medicine it's one of the best healers.

Then after you have enough medic, ypu could go poisoner to get more poisons that you won't waste.

Rangers sound like they would be quite useful. And if you go with an animal companion, that makes it easy to come up with a circus act. Personally I like the riding tarantula, but there are some really cool ones on Howl of the Wild.

By rules as written ABP utterly screws over kineticists. But I'm okay if they come online with the attack potency runes.

Princess Caravalle (title exaggerated for dramatic effect) is a dragonborn sprite pyrokinetic. In the circus, she is a firedancer, using her powers and wings create a dangerous spectacle. She even has strips of glowing scales down her body that she uses as part of her act.

"Oh, I have some tricks to help learn about a place quickly." she says with a grin. "You just need to listen everywhere all at once."

"I like being sneaky myself." she says with a smile as she drifts in and out of the shadows. You'll find that she has ways to evade even special senses.
She teleports, arriving stealthily until she speaks to reveal herself.

"It is unsettling. But we are here for a purpose and I have no illusions that opposing our Common Enemy is going to always be an enjoyable romp. I'm willing to accept some unsettling to be able to fight them."

"May I examine one?" If so she'll look at it and examine it with her senses. "It's more of a psychic entity than physical. Somehow, that seems less disturbing to me."

I'm debating about The First Flame's telepathy--it doesn't really *have* a native language, so I'm thinking its telepathy comes through as organized thought more than words. So I was debating about giving some synonyms sometimes on some of its words, like "Radiance/Killing Light/Radiation" or the like to indicate that its thoughts don't always fit nicely into words.

That's a good way to show the alienness of it.

So what game benefits does your aura give?

And Sharletta, what are all of the game effects of your implants? I want to make sure we all have them available.

"You put something inside us?! Some part of your hive?" She says this with no visible sign of emotion, but an intensity that would leave lesser mortals cowering in the corner. She locks eyes on Sharletta, "I don't think you intended harm, but please explain yourself and all of the ramifications of this - good and bad."

If Sharletta has protection against this.
She raises her eyebrow, looking intently at her. "What was that pinch? I don't think it was part of the spell."

"Ooooh, tingly!" she exclaims as the new magics cover her. "Thank you." Her eyes sparkle a bit more as she is examining the different kind of spellcasting.

While she is still appreciative, she is less excited about the tongues. She also swishes her arm and does a quick spin with the haste, evaluating the effect.

"Let's see, there are time and space. I tend to twist them around. Teleportation, playing with speed, wishing people into the cornfield, that kind of thing. If our foes rely on sight, I can fill an area with fog. does anybody have an issue with that? I throw various energies when we need to hurt people. Oh, and if you call me name, I'll hear your message no matter where you are."

She will also brush against each of you to give you a moment of luck.

"Well, it seems this problem is even bigger than we thought." says the positively petite princess. She flies a little higher to avoid being stepped upon. "I have refreshments, but I do apologize for not anticipating a wider variety of dietary requirements. I shall endeavor to provide better hospitality in the future."

"Well-met and welcome. I am Princess Caravalle. It seems that this task will be enormous." Both in the scale of the mission and the scale of her allies.

The Fey court is made up of immortals all seeking new sensations and trying to one-up their companions. Sharlotta will likely find new and interesting tastes in the buffet. Most dishes include ingredients from different but complementary planes.

"Oh, I did this on my own. I have a little talent for nature magic. I thought it might help us to prepare for this mission. I expect it to be dangerous and harrowing. We shall surely be tested. I like to remind myself of the worlds we protect, the little things that make up our lives. I've known people who got lost in battle and broken inside. As if part of him had been unmade. I vow to stay true to myself and seek the light while fighting the dark."

She also addresses the ravens, "A pleasure to meet you. Please feel free to enjoy the buffet."

She takes both of the other two very seriously. She puts her clasped hands to her head and her heart. She speaks with the solemnity of an Oath. "I swear to you that I will not betray your trust. Though this is not my domain, I offer this food with all of the courtesy and obligations of a host to a guest. While we dine I will not harm you and I will stand beside you against any outside threats." She will hold until the giantess makes a gesture of acceptance.

When that is done, she turns to the First Flame. "You have my understanding. I have heard of the First Flame and I am honored to be called alongside you. Perhaps one day a song or story will sustain your spirit."

"I am Princess Caravalle," she says to the two new entrants. "I don't think we need the recital of further titles and honors, but I can if you prefer. I have been called by Arinolus, as I suspect you two have as well."

She indicates the table, "Please, feel free to enjoy the repast. I expect that we will be tasked with something requiring all of our skills, and I think sharing a meal is often a good step towards forming a bond."

Upon receiving the notices, Caravalle pops quickly over to the empty platform. Seeing the state of it, she shakes her head. "Oh, this won't do," she says and pops away into the ether.

Shortly thereafter she returns. She gestures and produces a long table filled with a variety of foods. Meats, cheeses and various breads. Fruits from many planes. A variety of beverages from gentle refreshment to serious liqueurs. A pile of desserts that staggers the imagination.

She also waves and spreads greenery over the barren surface. She knows it wont last in the long term, but she chooses to make the place pleasant for their initial introduction.

I suppose she'll be able to see that, as an agender elemental-ish being, The First Flame doesn't have any of those. :D

Don't worry about it. Creative people always find something interesting to do.

The princess is quite diverse in her abilities. Here are the big ones.

• She can trace teleporting foes and follow them.
• She has a lot of extradimensional storage and can keep living beings in it.
• She has a demiplane that the party can rest in.

She twists time
• She can haste people, +70' speed, +4 AC/attack/reflex, Extra attack with full or +7 AoO's, extra move or swift action.
• She can freeze people in time or eject them from the space/time continuum. even permanently, though that takes more effort.
• She can steal time from people.
• When we know we're going into battle, she can let us all roll initiative and we each use the highest die and our own modifier.
• She's always a little bit faster, getting two swift actions.

She senses things
• Blindsight
• See invisibility
• X-ray vision. Yes, she sees your naughty bits.
• She can hear her name with the sentence, even across planes, and go to the person.
• She can see the past
• She can hear rumors
• She can create maps

She is sneaky
• She can hide from exotic senses
• She can bend attacks from hiding

My father was in hospice last year. I definitely feel for you. I hope that hospice provides her some peace.

I just noticed that we are D&D4e characters. We're 30th level and more than one of us has a power that says "Once per day when you die..."

Reckless, I was thinking about the Opponent Reading power you've given us. I think it's likely to be a brilliant time-saver for play-by-post, and I certainly don't want to suggest that you nerf it, but it does make Knowledge skills significantly less useful for those of us who made Intelligence-based characters. I had a suggestion that I was wondering if you would consider: What if everyone with the Opponent Reading power also gets the rank 10 Knowledge skill unlock?

Knowledge skill unlock wrote:
10 Ranks: When you successfully identify a creature, you gain a +1 competence bonus on attack rolls, opposed ability checks, skill checks, and caster level checks against creatures of that kind (e.g., glabrezu demons, but not other demons or evil outsiders) for 1 minute. This bonus increases by 1 for every 5 ranks beyond 10 you possess in that Knowledge skill.
This would be very easy for us to determine based on our own Knowledge checks, rather than having to wait for you as GM to evaluate it. What do you think?

The Charisma caster agrees.

Howdy to the new folks. Obviously these characters take time and I know that I'm still trying to optimize my sheet to try and keep everything straight.

With a sudden whoosh, the mindscape disappears, unceremoniously dumping the princess onto the floor. She stands up, her clothes shedding the dirt without conscious thought. Instead she opens up a flowered portal, leaving the door open. Beyond this is a clearing with several paviliars set up and a large table set up with food and drinks. Sprites fly about, making sure everything is okay for company. With a twist of space, a golden retriever appears, spinning in circles with excitement. "How is my Max? did you miss me?"

Come join me in my pocket dimension while we wait.

Okay, if we end up with the First Flame, I want to make a few substitutions in talents to reduce some of the overlap. These are some things that I had on my big list before cutting them down, and so it's not hampering my build at all. And it makes sense that the essence of fire would have these. So when we have 1,000 people coming at us in a tight circular forgation, it's all up to him.

I will remove the destruction talents Calamity, Disintegrate and Energy Cloud (of the clan MacLeod). I will replace them with crystal blast, living crystal blast and crystal cocoon. I'll be able to put somebody into a very pretty closet for a bit and let us deal with other threats.

Is that a bandwagon I see? I love and bandwagon! And what a pretty bird.

While I do have some overlap with the first Flame in terms of destruction, I get the feeling that the other differences will make the two characters very different.

Sorry to hear about you going. I hope life clears up for you soon.

Given the amount of power we have, I think we'd be okay with four. But then again attrition tends to happen on the boards, and I think that's more important.

I haven't gone over the other applications, so I'll get back to you.

Caravalle leans back, her chair fluffing up with extra cushions as it reclines. A well chiseled shirtless waiter comes out with a ridiculous glass filled with colorful liqueur and slices of fresh fruit. She seems quite skilled at reshaping reality with her mind.

"One of the great life lessons my mother learned was never to take a toddler to a morphic plane." A ghostly image of a three-year old riding a flying pig with the biggest sundae you've ever seen flits through space.

"I am Princess Caravalle. I can do the formal titles and honors if you wish, but it does go on for a while."
