"Hmm, Bumblebrashers, yes, decent folk, not far. Red smoke, no talk from City Dell Allterrain, this is bad, but good time for heroes to prove their heroitude and save the day! Don't fear, Pileus Shady Pool--" Pileus gestures to himself excitedly, "--will travel to City Dell with new friends and put out red smoke fire and ask why goblins stop talking to Hero Caller Warbal!"
Pileus ponders to himself what kind of natural causes--such as herbs or minerals--might make red smoke.
It's weird because I also play a gunslinger in JD's Abomination Vaults campaign and in the almost year we've been playing, he's never ghosted us for a whole week like this before, but he's gone silent over there too. I hope everything's okay.
"I hope Call is dire! There's no glory in small Calls. Like Call-Hero orc said, we want to hear lamb and tater rations of our anemones! Is that a kind of hero victory stew?" Pileus asks eagerly.
Wang glances over his shoulder when the leshy speaks. Midway in returning his attention to the goblins, he rapidly turns bodily to face the walking mushroom, eyes wide with wonder. A kami? A kami!
"May the morning grace you, noble kami!" Wang says with a formal bow. "Forgive me. I regret that I do not have a proper meal to offer you. Maybe you would accept an offering of music in its stead?"
"I call myself Pileus Shady Pool, not Noble Kami," he says, misunderstanding the bard. "Meal is not needed. I eat in forest. But music is always welcome! What do you call yourself, friend?"
Gexi wrote:
Pileus, my friend,” Gexi says a little too loudly in the gathered crowd. ”I thought the meeting was to begin at midday. I’m just glad I didn’t oversleep. Any idea what the urgency is?”
"No, no idea, friend Gexi. I was going to greet Sourdough Starter in kitchen when I saw big early crowd for Call. I wish to be called, so I hurried over."
A small man in a gigantic blue hat and monk's robes makes his way through the crowd. As he gets closer, you see that he is not wearing a hat. It is in fact the cap of a mushroom and clearly part of his head. The face beneath holds sapphire eyes, a pair of holes serving as nostrils, and a thin mouth. His skin all over is white as chalk where it isn't armored in what looks like tree bark and underneath the skin are thick muscles. His robes are dirty--no, not dirt--mold. His robe must have been a light tan when they started, but now it is spotted with blue, green, and black mold. His backpack too looks similarly mildewy. Perhaps the strangest thing is that the grouping of the mold isn't random--it appears in subtle patterns that make you think it may have been grown on his robes on purpose.
"Early call for heroes, very early, must be needing much heroics, needing strong arms and courage, yes, I will answer call today," he says to no one in particular in a reedy voice.
Pileus would never pass up a chance to discuss his favorite subject. He considers all fungi friends and loves talking about them, although he would disapprove of harvesting fungi for purposes other than sustenance or medicine. Not sure how open Gexi would be about wanting to make poisons out of them.
Pileus is a hermit who lives in the woods near town most of the time but you've still probably seen him at Cayden's Keg every week or so or participating in prize fights or possibly in a bar fight--he doesn't start those but he does sure finish them.
I'm all set too. I tweaked the image, expanded the backstory a bit, and completed my purchases but the crunch for 1st level is the same as it was when I first shared the Pathbuilder link.
And a general question to the group, which is more for future consideration, who would appreciate having a poisoned weapon? Part of the idea is to share them among the group. Along with antidotes, just in case.
I'm planning on unarmed attacks only (including the leshy seedpod feat for an unarmed ranged attack) so I won't usually have anything to poison lol.
I'm putting focus into combat maneuvers (disarm and trip with Reflective Ripple stance and probably grapple with the Wrestler archetype, which is my current choice for free archetype) so I'll be able to shut single enemies down and wale on them. I'm using a buckler instead of a stronger shield so that I can attack even with a grappled target in the other hand. I'm small sized which does limit things a bit but Wrestler gives you Titan Wrestler for free which will help mitigate that.
@GM I know there are bottled sunlight rations for plant leshies, can I assume I can find similar rations at the same price for my fungus leshy? I plan on subsisting on natural stuff like mushrooms do usually but I want to have backup rations in case the pickings are slim.
Strange scrappy fungus monk checking in! Glad to be here and look forward to playing with you all :)
Edit: Before we finalize characters, we should probably make sure skills are decently covered. Is someone planning on taking Medicine or Thievery? Those are probably the two most irreplaceable ones.
Right now I'm looking at Athletics and Nature which I'm pretty set on but my third skill I could be flexible (leaning towards Stealth or Acrobatics right now).

SPECIAL ABILITIES
--------------------
Starsoul Arcana Whenever you cast an evocation spell, targets that fail their saves are dazzled by tiny sparkling starlights for 1 round per level of the spell.
Minute Meteors (Sp)(Bloodline Power) At 1st level, you can summon a rain of tiny meteorites as a standard action to fall in a 5-foot column, 30 feet high, with a range of 30 feet. The meteors inflict 1d4 points of fire damage + 1 per 2 sorcerer levels. A Reflex save negates this damage. The save DC is equal to 10 + 1/2 your sorcerer level + your Charisma modifier. You may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Charisma modifier.
Eschew Materials(bonus feat) You can cast any spell with a material component costing 1 gp or less without needing that component. The casting of the spell still provokes attacks of opportunity as normal. If the spell requires a material component that costs more than 1 gp, you must have the material component on hand to cast the spell, as normal.
Toughness(feat) You gain +3 hit points. For every Hit Die you possess beyond 3, you gain an additional +1 hit point. If you have more than 3 Hit Dice, you gain +1 hit points whenever you gain a Hit Die (such as when you gain a level).
I submit Tamashii Koboshi, kitsune sorcerer of the Starsoul bloodline and Pathfinder initiate. If his background has caught your attention I will post the Crunch tomorrow :)
Background:
Nothing could have surprised Koboshi's parents more--short of not being kitsune at all-than the snow white fur which covered Koboshi's body, a departure from the rich auburn of his mother and father. At once his parents took him to a seer, who divined a distant ancestor who came from a long line of stargazers and mystics known as the Starsouls, and proclaimed he was the rekindling of that bloodline. His parents named him Koboshi-- that is, "star child" in their native Tien, and began a life of adventure by taking him on their caravans through the Path of Aganhei, as the boy's powers seemed to wax at the sight of the aurora, which in turn seemed to bless the whole group's journeys.
The northern reaches of Avistan proved more appealing to Koboshi than Minkai, and once he reached 15, he waved goodbye to his parents and stayed in the Land of the Linnorn Kings as an apprentice to Sieg, an Ulfen sorcerer and member of the Pathfinder lodge in Kalsgard, to whom his parents had recommended him. At 16, Sieg took him to the Grand Lodge in Absalom for Pathfinder training. At 18, he was sent back to Kalsgard to await his Confirmation test. However, since returning they have only assigned him research and drudge work, and every time he asks when his Confirmation will occur, he is always told "the Grand Lodge has not sent any word yet".
While researching in the town of Frostbark to update the Kalsgard Lodge's maps of the Thanelands a few weeks after his nineteenth birthday, Koboshi saw the flyer offering 500 gp to adventurers to secure the adamantine cave. Koboshi resolved then and there to make his own confirmation test, and quickly responded...
Long, cold nights in the mountains studying the night sky with Sieg have made Koboshi a patient man with a thirst for adventure, and his years of long journeys have made him a great joker to cope with the boredom. To amuse himself or others, he will shapeshift back and forth between human and vulpine forms as rapidly as he can, or practice his cantrips. Indoors, he usually uses his human form, but outdoors, he uses his vulpine form for its fur, a boon in the frosty weather of the Thanelands. He embraces both forms as equal parts of himself, using each form based on his mood or its utility, rather than using his human side to hide his kitsune heritage.
