We are on hold until Keith and Chris get back into the game. As you might have guessed, we're about to have a chaotic, dangerous, and hopefully fun battle very soon, and I don't want two players to miss out on it.

OOC: Hey guys,

I’m really sorry for dropping off the campaign/radar like that. We were just wrapping up a several-year project at work with the usual last minute crunches, surprises and mis-planned nonsense when another little crisis came up and we just finished that last week.
Add in that Rocky IV painting project Ed mentioned and I pretty much just zoned on checking the play-by-post forum.

I check email a lot more regularly than surfing, but my bad and I’m going to set a reminder in my calendar to check the play-by-post every couple of days until we get rolling so i can get in the habit of checking it regularly.

so again, I apologize. Meanwhile Phaethon is sulky and withdrawn. And I thought a low charisma score would be a problem…

“there are at… least… two more over… here!” Phaethon calls out, his warning made erratic by the distractions of combat. The young monk tries to keep an eye out for the guildman that disappeared into the darkness as he keeps his glowing flail moving in wide, fast arcs. He’s not able to anticipate an invisible opponent however, and the missing guildsman suddenly appears at Phaethon’s side, driving his gauntleted fist into the monk’s ribs (-12 HP). Phaethon is knocked sideways, bouncing off the wall of the tunnel and missing his snap kick.

Phaethon exhales sharply and tries to roll with the jarring impact, pushing himself off the tunnel wall and back into the fray. He aims another strike at the nearest guildsman in a renewed attempt to stun his opponent...

dang, getting jumped during naptime isn't working out well for us...

[Phaethon's] flail bounces crazily as he runs, throwing indistinct shadows around the tunnel. The flail illuminates the two opponents that appear from the darkness, two more Last Laugh guildsmen that flank the young monk. He swings the weapon in a wide arc, making impact across the shoulder of his nearest opponent, who absorbs the impact with a tumbling roll, disappearing into the darkness deeper in the tunnel....

The young monk tries to keep an eye out for the guildman that disappeared into the darkness as he keeps his glowing flail moving in wide, fast arcs. Hoping the enemy will focus his defense on the magic weapon, Phaethon snaps a kick under the man’s jaw in an effort to stun him.

As soon as Phaethon turns to the left, darts fly at him from the right, down the other side of the tunnel. He somehow senses them, and whirls to deflect them, knocking one to the side and ducking under the other.

Immediately deciding the foes to the left are sufficiently occupied by Aelfric-bear and the dire bat, Phaethon sprints to the right to confront who or whatever just fired the darts at him. The soft, sun-yellow glow from his flail bounces crazily as he runs, throwing indistinct shadows around the tunnel.

OOC: Phaethon will charge into combat with whatever he finds to the right side of the tunnel, trusting his flail to provide enough illumination for melee combat.

OOC: do the fire beetles respond to verbal commands like “come” or “here, beetle, beetle…” more light would be better, I suppose.

unwilling to wait for darkness to envelope them as the fire beetles dim, Phaeton shoulders his flail and makes ready to follow the bat and bear into the hall and attack.

OOC: as he moves, he'll hold the flail up with one hand, leaving the other free to give a chance to deflect additional darts

OOC: does Phaeton's flail just glow in the presence of evil, or is it bright enough to be a light source? since the fire beetles seem to be going out...

Phaethon takes a cue from the others and pulls the collar of his tunic over his mouth; trying to breathe through it for now and holding his glowing flail up with one hand.

If an enemy presents itself, he’ll attack. Otherwise he’ll hold and let the more experienced tunnel-fighters take the lead.

OOC: Phaethon/Chris is online. bye-bye accursed yahoo mail.

IC: Phaethon will sleep until/if awakened and then ready his flail, holding the chain to keep it as quiet as possible and holding it up to see if it begins to glow (detecting evil).
