I kinda figured as much. I had poked my GM with about the Leadership feat (we're still level 2, but we're all pretty inexperienced, GM included, so I want her to know what she's getting into if she says yes) and she fired back with the Item Bond variant. I'm playing a BB Kensai and I found this thread trying to see if it's even legal.

I'd still rather have a crafting wizard cohort, and I've even met an npc who could potentially fit the bill.

It's a home brew game, so she could (and probably would) house rule it, but she's already going to make a house rule to make all the jokes the other players have made about me wielding a flaming sword that wields a flaming sword of its own actually happen. A man can only eat so much cheese.

Not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but I'm curious about something.

Does the ability to apply permanent enchantments to your cohort item supercede the restriction against doing so from BB?

So what do you guys think about a level dip in Wizard for this archetype combo?

My thought was that a bonded Amulet of Spell Cunning (when you can get it - and I suspect the extra slots are only going to be good for wizard spells) with some extra Pearl of Power enchantments as you're able to add them on would help ease the pain of the diminished spellcasting without costing *too* much, plus the Admixture school power is handy to have for nasty surprises.

The trade-off of delaying the higher level spells for a level in exchange for a bunch of extra level one slots would, I think, be more useful in roleplay/investigation heavy games like the one in which I'm currently playing one of there (about to hit level 2,probably won't end up taking the level dip until 4). Or if expecting some violence, having a few extra minutes with Long Arm and/or Enlarge person could come in handy.

Also, Mage Armor and access to Sorc/Wiz wands without needing the UMD check.

Side question for later levels - Enlarge Person and Long Arm are not specifically labelled Polymorph where Elemental Body is. Does that mean I can cast them on myself while in an elemental form?
